Darth Malgus Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Thanks for the pics, my little boy is goign to be asking a lot from Santa this year I feel. Quote
Wout Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Correct me if i'm wrong, but I just saw a picture on brickshelf of a (probabably exclusive new) set and I already had read the name somewhere so I think it's real. I try to put the image. if the pic don't work , the set is 4000008, Villy Thomsen Truck. I found it in the brickshelf map of mankin(21273) Quote

paul_delahaye Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) the set is 4000008, Villy Thomsen Truck. Interesting looking set? Looks a bit like an old Fairground or Circus truck, not sure there is enough contents to justify it being the factory tour set, but it's nice. If of course all the bricks are printed rather than stickers, this would then be an awesome set Edited May 6, 2013 by paul_delahaye Quote

paul_delahaye Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Not sure if anyone has looked closely at the Forklift in the new Cargo set, but appears to use a new moulding, maybe Lego have done away with the spring mechanism, it now looks like it uses a rubber band to lift the forks? Quote
sneff Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) Very interesting. I would have never noticed that Edited May 6, 2013 by sneff Quote

Yes indeed! I believe this was noticed at Toy Fair. I for one welcome the change. Busted or missing rubber bands are much easier to replace than busted or missing springs. Quote
Aussie BJ Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 The Town Square set craps all over my City Corner set. Ok, maybe not all over. But it sure has a nice range of vehicles, buildings and minifigs. Hope the RRP isn't overly crazy. My guess would be $165 AUD which is overly crazy IMO. My limit will be $99 on sale. Hoping it's not an exclusive. Quote
Aussie BJ Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 (edited) A better view of the new rubber band on the new forklift. It must be a pretty flexible one? Lets hope there's 2. Very welcome addition to the forklift. Same ones being used on the larger Yellow forklift. Edited May 9, 2013 by Aussie BJ Quote
Hammerstein NWC Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 eardefenders are epic! (can you guess I'm a minifig fan!! :) Quote
newwavejunkie Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I'm so glad they've replaced Santa in the Advent calendar with the collectable minifigs version. The old one with the Majisto beard and the pirate bandana has been done to death. Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Man, that cargo plane is just MONSTROUS... Airport sets gobble up so much layout space to begin with, but I just don't see myself ever being able to work up an airstrip big enough to even suggest that this thing could land. Probably gonna pass, but love the others! Quote
SeanM Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Maybe I'm the only one, but I can't wait for the cargo sets to release. I missed out on the cargo plane in 2008 and I absolutely love the forklift from 7733. I'm glad they are going back to this design. Quote
ttsoohoo Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 i like the 2013 advent calendar. but why is there always a thief? shouldn't we have children ice skating or playing in snow or skiing? Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Actually I like the look of the cargo plan but I suspect it is made of huge un-LEGOy parts? Still it seems to have several other little useful airport vehicles and bits. One thing I would wish with these LEGO planes is that they could be made in such a way that the undercarriage can be raised. Does anyone know if it can be on this plane? I also like the Vertical takeoff Helicopter / plane thingy, that looks like a great set with a nice cockpit. Seems like a lot of aircraft this time around what with the coastguard stuff as well. I do like aircraft but a decent airport layout would take up a huge amount of room so is not really practical for me, shame really. Maybe one day I will have a huge house! Quote

I wouldn't call the parts of the plane "un-LEGOy". There are a number of large parts — which is necessary on a plane this size for structural reasons — but really the model is no less complex than the 4-stud-fuselage planes of the 90s. Incidentally, it also introduces some new curve elements: specifically, 2x8x2 curved arch pieces, which have a curve consistent with the already-released 8x8x2 variety. And no, I don't believe the undercarriage can be raised. It'd almost certainly need a complex Technic mechanism for that to work effectively without being too fragile. Just consider the complexity of the folding wheels in the Shuttle Adventure and Shuttle Expedition sets. Quote
Faefrost Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 i like the 2013 advent calendar. but why is there always a thief? shouldn't we have children ice skating or playing in snow or skiing? The Thief makes sense, at least when compared to the Astronaut with the Magical Fairy Wand? Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 The Thief makes sense, at least when compared to the Astronaut with the Magical Fairy Wand? Yep, that's Major Tom.......Ashes To Ashes (David Bowie). Now is it just me or last year the second half releases were only a few and this year two huge subthemes......I wonder if this is a new trend for city.....more sets and more sub-themes.....we can only hope ? Quote
Aanchir Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 The Thief makes sense, at least when compared to the Astronaut with the Magical Fairy Wand? As I mentioned before, that's the star for the top of the tree. It was probably given to the astronaut for humorous reasons (the astronaut, after all, is used to working from great heights, and stars are associated with outer space). Perhaps the new star element from LEGO Friends would be better, but it would require the build of the tree to be more complex since it'd have to be attached using a SNOT element, and it would not have the same visual impact from all angles. I think it makes plenty of sense for the thief to be used. The advent calendar, after all, is themed as LEGO City, and the thief is one of many minifigures designed specifically with that theme in mind. He also creates a role-play opportunity with the police officer. Quote

Airport sets gobble up so much layout space to begin with, but I just don't see myself ever being able to work up an airstrip big enough to even suggest that this thing could land. Probably gonna pass, but love the others! Agreed. The embiggening (hey, it's a perfectly cromulent word) of Lego City vehicles continues unabated. Blech. I like my old-school 4-wide airplanes. Quote
LegoDad Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I really like the Cargo truck and plane sets, will probably get both at some point since I missed all of them the last time. The Advent Calendar is nice too, would be the first City version I'd purchased. Quote
Legotom Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Suggestion for those who don't have room for an airstrip. If you model the airport apron at the front of your layout, and have taxi-ways continue over the edge it suggests the presence of a huge runway, without the need to build one. I love airport themes and will be buying all the planes on offer. I usually use the floor of the spare room though, lots of room for a runway that way ;). Quote
