Apparently the image was pulled from the image cache when you do the LEGO survey from the back of the instruction manuals. My guess is that this is going to turn out to be a false alarm - probably a mock-up done for the new Town Square set as a placeholder that accidentally found its way onto that site.

I just checked myself on the survey site, only real set numbers give you the next page so it must be real and in my email from Lego this morning confirmed it.

Hi, have you seen this?

http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=10234-1

Sydney opera house 10234 -> advanced model....

By the way i don't understand why Palace Cinema is creator theme and expert subtheme, since all the modulars are under expert model theme. And sydney opera is also will be issued under expert model theme...is this a new modular moreover based on real building? hmmm would be fine....

It's because the "expert model" category is being rebranded across-the-board as "Creator Expert", since the advanced models and Creator sets share a lot of designers and are more or less based on the same design principles (making creative use of existing parts). Unless there is another change in branding at some point in the future, all future modular buildings will be branded as Creator Expert.

The Sydney Opera House set is not a modular building. There's not really any way it COULD be, considering that the distinctive architecture of the Sydney Opera House would be wholly incompatible with a city block, and furthermore I can't think of any practical way the Sydney Opera House could be released as a set in minifigure scale. Chances are it will be something more along the lines of the Taj Mahal set: a large-scale sculpture of the real landmark.

Anyone know if the summer wave has hit the Lego stores in the UK yet? Want to pick some up this weekend

Won't be going to a LEGO store until this weekend but ToysRUs had the first delivery of new sets last weekend and advised me to keep checking back as they expect more sets each week from now.

I'll let you know about a LEGO store this weekend...

Cheers

Okay, land of confusion time everyone.....Lego sent me two emails today.......

First email......

"Thanks for getting in touch with us.

We have already received an answer from our Shop@Home department.

We are really sorry but set 60031 is sold out and is no longer available.

Alternatively, you can always try to find it in Toys Stores or other online stores such as Amazon or EBay.

Please get in touch if you need anything else. It's free to call our experts on:"

Now the second email.....

"Thanks for getting in touch with us.

Isn’t it exciting that there are so many new LEGO® sets every year? It’s great to see you’re eagerly waiting and trying to find out about what we’ve planned for the future.

I'm sorry that I can’t tell you anything about 60031 at the moment. Something like that might be coming soon, but our new toys are always kept secret until they’re announced in the catalogue or on LEGO.com. That’s because it takes a long time to design and make new toys, and we sometimes need every minute until they hit the shelves to make them perfect. Besides... we look forward to surprising you!

Thanks again for getting in touch. We're always pleased to receive feedback from LEGO fans! If you could take a moment to complete a four question survey by going to the link below, it will help us make sure we are providing the best customer service to you."

So, are we totally confused yet......according to S@H 60031 is sold out and NLA.....except it's never being listed apart from the number being used for a storage container of some kind back 6 years ago. While the second email said it's like a secret and can't say anything about it except a load of dribble ! :hmpf_bad:

But now the funny thing is the first email is from Lego Australia while the other is from Lego customer service not in the land of Oz.......so I think I might need a strong drink after this load of you know what !

Edit - I have sent another email to Lego is have this matter cleared up once and for all.....it's either yes or no.....heck, they could yes in 6 months - fine, that would be fine but they haven't.....like I wrote above....a load of dribble !

The second mail is just a copy and paste response, probably from a system for customer service workflow. An agent has probably tagged it as 'future product enquiry' or something like that, then you get a standard response from the system.

Maybe, but why two totally different responses sent within seconds of each other ?

A standard response = a load of dribble !

While on the hunt I discovered that the Toystation in Singapore claims 60026 town square as their best seller....be nice to see this set in Oz.....one day.

Hey guys, just built the 60014 Coast Guard Patrol set, and while I always feel a bit slighted by the piece count when buying a boat set, I feel the $79.99USD price point was fair in comparison to the finished product (and I feel even better using TRU's $20 off to get it for $69.99).

Some other observations:

-- Seems a bit strange to get 3 sharks. Would've loved one of them to be a sawfish shark, or even the manta mold.

-- The tiny helicopter received heavy criticism, of course, but I like it. Who doesn't want to recreate that ridiculous scene from JAWS 2 where the shark grabs the copter by the pontoon and pulls the pilot into the drink. This entire set reminded me of that movie, in fact!

-- I understand why TLG feels the need to use new pieces freely to justify a new mold, but the dog? So much more could have been built into the ship itself were it not for the dog and small shark army included.

-- Speaking of which, the ship is a really eye-catching build, really authentic if not appropriate in scale... But there's one thing keeping it from being a great build. The bottom deck has, of course, NO furnishings whatsoever. Not a single bunk. A few bunks, a small galley or even a munitions closet would have made this thing truly exceptional.

-- Would have loved some line and reel on the ship itself, to hook up to the raft and tow it into harbor, etc. Among the extra pieces was a white shaft (aka Gandalf's staff), some Technic pins and an extra grappling hook that I employed to create an effective boat hook. If only there were a few clips aft to hold it (or the crew's walkie talkie) when not in use!

Need to know for this weekend

Finally some clearing of the air on this 60031.....and it's bad news city fans....

"I have again checked with our LEGO Shop At Home Team and I have also been informed that the set 60031 has sold out. It looks like the set has only been launched for a very brief period of time, as a relaunch of the set 7641. This is also the information you have received from one of my colleagues and I am very sorry that our comments have been confusing.

In regards to the LEGO survey I can let you know that the image looks incredibly similar to the older set 7641 as it has been a relaunch of the set. I have however forwarded your comments to our web team and they will help out with any potential errors on this parts of our website."

So the question begs....when this was available, because I never saw it at S@H over the last few months.....unless it's a smoke screen.....what does everyone else think ?

If TLG were planning on re releasing this set it seems like bad timing since the Town Square is now out. Seems kind of pointless to me.

True it does seem pointless, but they did release it and then bang gone no more.......something to the tiger doesn't sound right - smoke screen I still feel is in effect from Lego. :look:

Yes, they were released June 1st.

It is indeed a false alarm. No re-release is happening.

'Creator Expert' is the new branding for advanced models, which can include Exclusive and Hard to Find products if necessary. Earlier releases don't fall into this branding for purely logistical reasons.

LEGO Store in Watford has all of the new sets.

Argos and ToysRUs both have only the fire/ambulance starter set.

Well sort of. I went to my local Toys R Us (About 35 miles from my home.) and they did not have any of the new sets. Called into my local Toy Master (Local toyshop.) and they had half of them. Basically they had the cheaper end of the coastguard and cargo range delivered. I did ask if they had the rest and had not put them out yet, but apparently that was all they were sent. They also have not been sent any Galaxy Squad stuff yet even though it is out on TLG's website. No idea about actual LEGO brand stores as our nearest one is three hours drive away from where I live.

60031 has popped up again, last night at Brickshop.nl, yes the usual one that points out 'hey, what's that set ?' all the time......the claim is mid-September and 59.95 Euro

http://www.brickshop.nl/lego/lego-city/lego-60031-city-corner.html

I have sent another email to Lego to see what they say now ! :hmpf_bad: (the tiger does like been lied to !)

As soon as I get a response from Lego I will post it. :classic:

I'm confused? Why would Lego do a re-release of the City Corner, with Bus, Bike Shop and Pizzeria, right on top of 60026 which is a new Bus, Bike Shop and Pizzeria? Are we sure 60031 isn't simply some internal coding for a set recreation that was used as a placeholder in marketing materials? That would also explain why it is so confusing in the Customer Service people's computers. It would show a picture of a real looking released set, but the data would conflict to make it seem as both not yet released while inventory would appear as no longer available.

Posted

I agree totally that it's confusing.....something is starting to smell fishy to me, though it makes sense a smoke screen for a re-release that is not yet.....September is a few months away and it might be an exclusive too.....hopefully some truth will come forth and the air can be cleared.

A re-release of that set still doesn't make any sense. Maybe the classic Town Plan, but not that one.

Didn't some of the early catalog or lego club magazine pics of the new city sets show a large layout scene with those buildings as part if the background? I suspect that the new 60026 was not yet finalized and approved, so they used the older design for the city scene pictures. But since some parts were no longer available or in inventory, they had to do a minor redesign. This redesign was assigned the number 60031 to be used internally, so the marketing and art department could order the reworked set or pieces thereof from the warehouse. So 60031 is a real set. And a re-release. But it's total production run is 1. It was recreated for the photography department. Hence it is both sold out and not yet released.

Pure speculation on my part, but its the only scenario I can see making any sense.

How kind of Lego to respond on the weekend eh ?

"Thanks for getting back in touch with us.

It's great to read that you have such a big interest in our LEGO® city range. However I am sorry to let you know, that I have to confirm my collegues e-mail.

We can't tell you in advance when, and if our new sets will be released or if and when our old sets will be re-released. Information like that is always kept as a secret for a long time and sometimes it is only communicated to us very close to the release date.

Other websites, fanwebsites and forums often have non-official LEGO® information which is not confirmed by us officially until you can find it on www.lego.com."

Yep, smoke screen......so what can be read is that Lego confirms by not confirming.....you see they haven't said no, it's not being released at all or in the future.

Funny thing is their last line speaks of the likes of our beloved EB......but the last info I have is a link to a retailer's page.....not a fansite.
