I picked up Vermin Vaporizer and Bug Obliterator a couple weeks ago, and I'm really digging the theme so far. I knew going into the Lego store that Vaporizer was a must have for testing the waters of this theme, but the store had the Obliterator built and on display and it looked far too cool to pass up.

I'm not sure why, but building these sets (Vaporizer in particular) gave me massive flashbacks of building space sets from the late 80s and early 90s. The Vaporizer reminded me of something from Space Police 2, while the Obliterator reminded me of something from the first Blacktron wave. In any case, they were both really enjoyable builds. Highly detailed - like anything we've come to expect, but buried underneath was something kind of retro. I was surprised that the Obliterator came with only one largish instruction book - however, this is because large quantities of pieces were added every step (this was a nice change from the snail pace of adding 1-2 pieces as is the norm).

Both sets came with a healthy dosage of new parts. I was delighted to find lots of inverted tiles in both sets, though they weren't put to that great of use. They served no purpose at all on the Vaporizer, and on the Obliterator they were used to allow the main flying vessel to glide smoothly across the floor when attached to the wheeled vehicle - however, because of them being square tiles, they kind of dig into carpets and soft surfaces and don't work as well as conventional rounded inverted tiles. It's obvious they were mainly thrown in because they are new parts and TLG knew we'd want to get our hands on them.

Vermine Vaporizer and Bug Obliterator both look really great on display. They also offer loads of playability. I've barely been able to keep my hands off them. My local Lego stores had some of the insect ships built and on display too (Warp Stinger and Star Slicer), and they looked even better in person then in pics. The colour schemes are really eye catching, and the designs are really unique. I was particularly impressed by the size of Star Slicer - it's a pretty substantial set and would no doubt be a great companion for any of the good-guy stuff to create some intense battles. I look forward to picking up all the sets in the line, and I really hope they do come out with that second wave so that we get multiple vehicles for each colour, and a good sized base.

"In 2072, a crack pest control firm was put out of business for excessive cruelty to insects.

Still wanted by the Space Police, they promptly fled Earth.

If you have a bug problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find them -

Maybe you can hire -

The GS Team!"

(Since I haven't heard if there is some kind of "official" storyline, thought I'd make up my own.

Although I think I may have badly dated myself if anyone gets the reference!)

Haha, that's a great storyline. They are some serious exterminators with that kind of firepower they have. I like this!

Z06- it's nice to hear they don't take eight years(possible slight exaggeration) to build them.

I wonder when this line is going to be available here. Not for a few months is my guess, but at least there'll be some new SW in the meantime.

I checked out Bricklink regarding the Swarm Interceptor parts, it's a ship I'd like a fleet of, but I'd hoped to make it in different trim colours for the other factions & recent space minifigs. Unfortunately the wedge piece does not come in green, otherwise that option is available. I might try black for the CMF space pirate. (The pink one would be awesome, but I doubt most of those parts are available in pink! TLG, we need more pink spaceship parts... )

A girly spaceship would be hilarious. Maybe the Friends theme could provide one? A hot pink swooshy hotrod for space babes.

Anyway, hoping my Billy Starbeam and robot arrive tomorrow. My actual postman is excellent but the postal service is pants. Everything always gets held up while temporary christmas staff try to locate the best items to steal. :hmpf_bad: Maybe I'll be lucky and both sets of Billy and robot I ordered will arrive together............

I'm positive I've seen a "galaxy girl" pink ADU squad someplace some months back, possibly it was by one of the LEGO designers, I can't remember or seem to find it at present. Was always thinking of making a mecha squad based on "Power Dolls" for my batch of them, but I have a long list of other things want to work on before that.

Anyhoo I have ordered the Bug Obliterator and 2x Space Swarmers, that should arrive before New Year's. Will have to wait for another sale to get the rest, although maybe I'll head to the LEGO Store for a Star Slicer as I think it is a retailer exclusive here in USA (was going to go soon to go pick up a Hobbit Barrel Escape for same reason).

@Algernon I would be glad to see interview of the sets, since im looking forward for the theme.

OnTopic:Do you guys think that i can mix the ultra drill walker and fit it into the orange squad?

How about the new star wars clone trooper walker for the blue one?

The quinjet from the avengers into something?ideas?

Space police galaxy enforcer into blue squad ?

I really like the sets i mentioned above and it would be nice if i could use them in the current space theme :)

Got the Space Mantis (Star Slicer) and Vermin Vaporizor for Christmas this morning! If there's enough interest I'll do a review.

Even if you don't do full reviews for the sets, I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on them in here anyways. Of those two I have the Vaporizer, and I think it's great, but I always love to hear what others think too. I've seen the Star Slicer in person and thought it looked wicked, so I'd like to know what you think of these two sets a companion pieces.

Merry Christmas everyone! My wife spread the Christamas cheer by getting me the Vermin Vaporizer, the Swarm Interceptor, and the Space Swarmer. I like all three, however, applying 22 stickers in the VV slows the build down a little. My only other real complaint is that the ramp doesn't go down flush to the ground and there is quite a lip for the little buggy to traverse when moving in and out of the main vehicle. It's a minor nitpick, and overall the completed set looks pretty cool. The little mech in back has grown on me. I still would prefer arms and hands as opposed to weapon arms, but it's something that could be easily modded. I love the white and green color scheme...it definitely catches the eye.

I find the Space Swarmer to be brilliant in execution. I wish more of the Insectoid vehicles in this line were as well done as this little model. I'm still hoping we'll get a second wave and there'll be a nice largish Beetle-esque mobile lab or such on par with the human ships we've seen.

I'm interested in seeing that big alien vehicle clearer...

Overall, looks like a good wave, just a shame that Red Team has yet to get the attention they deserve: However, a few things I already like about this wave:

+Orange robot in a medium sized set. Yessss.

+Cool looking alien centipede of sorts in the new blue team vehicle.

Speaking of blue team... they seem to have a new recruit!

Well, from what I can make out, the summer sets look just as good, if not even better than the first wave. Alien vehicles are getting better and better, and it's great that the green and orange troopers will be available in smaller sets. Too bad there aren't any new figs, but at least this will make it easier to collect them all.

Got a few GS sets for X-mas. My relatives all really like the bugs. These new bugs look just as good! (Especially that centipede vehicle)

EDIT: Just noticed the red squad still doesn't have a good vehicle. Grr.

The summer sets look meh, and the red squad STILL do not have their own vehicle.

I agree- it seems Lego has improved on the good aspects of the theme while simultaneously highlighting its weaknesses. The lack of a large red team vehicle is inexcusable, especially if someone wanted to display all of their human factions together- the red team would look pathetic!

Once again, the aliens get the smaller vehicle. Although the Hive Crawler looks rather nice, and appears to have 4x4 dishes in trans-pink.

The Crater Creeper seems interesting. Nice to have another Green Squad guy.

The Eradicator Mech looks really awesome. You can see what it splits into; a pair of legs  and a plane. And does that alien vehicle have a trans-neon green cocoon?

And then there´s the Galactic Titan. Which also seems to include a circular insectoid base, with some sort of weird, pink-topped, tower. The Galactic Titan itself seems pretty fenomenal, as it´s basically a combined space bus and giant tank.

I really hope the summer wave of GS has more sets actually. Otherwise we´re going to be hearing complaints about the red squad for ages.

That Crater Creeper! I don't think I'm going to be getting much from this theme, but I now have two sets that I have to get. Looking at the sets again, the alien vehicles look to be improving, can't wait to get better pictures. Wonder if there'll be new aliens...
