Venkefedo Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 The Red team may not have a large vehicle, but it seems like they might get TWO vehicles in Hive Crawler--just both small speeder-bike type things. Remember, TLG's storyline is that the Red team's about SPEED. Small, quick vehicles fit into that nicely. And it's POSSIBLE that Hive Crawler's red human will be a teammate to Billy, since Blue gets at least one new human in Galactic Titan. There's also the chance that there's another set or two as exclusives, perhaps with a larger red vehicle. Quote
Vindicare Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Also, there's another page of Galaxy Squad. On the left side of the picture, where the spine is, you can see an edge of another box with the green troopers and the corner of something that looks to be flying. Quote

Algernon Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Yes! LEGO is throwing us a bone! So glad to see that we're getting a summer wave. I don't want to judge too harshly just yet, but from what I can see, the Galactic Titan is the most interesting by far. I don't think LEGO Space has had a vehicle that looks quite like that before. I'm also intrigued/confused by the alien outpost it comes with - what exactly is it? Not very clear from such small pictures. I really want to like the Mech, but I'll be honest, I'm not loving it so far. It seems a bit too much like a flying vehicle on legs, which I'm sure is due to the splitting function. Crater Creeper looks exceptionally boring to me. The Hive Crawler is a bit more interesting. I can imagine it would be very fun to buy in tandem with the Galactic Titan, since they seem to be similar vehicles. I'll be waiting for better pictures, but still, this is good news! Quote
ZO6 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I think that the biggest three (Titan, Crawler, Mech) look pretty awesome. If TLG gives us a base for the squad at some point then I could be satisfied with the theme as a whole. After building the Bug Obliterator, I was thinking that it was a bit small-ish, so I'm glad that there are bigger sets on the way. I look forward to seeing better pics. Quote
Vindicare Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 That would be 70704. Pfft, I knew that. I was testing people. Quote
Jargo Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Reds got shafted again. Damn you Lego, Damn you! That said, 70707 CLS 89 Eradicator mech looks alright and 70709 Galactic Titan is quite nice though it's a bit too similar in concept to 70705 Bug Obliterator. The alien vehicles do absolutely nothing for me. My only comment on 70708 Hive crawler is that my disgust regarding the red team's prejudicial treatment is such, decency won't allow me to say what I really think. The Crater crawler is pretty 'meh'. Not as good as the first wave. Though not too awful (besides the red team thing). Quote

I guess TLG haven't heard of the Millennium Falcon, . Which is odd, since they've made it several times. Come on TLG, give Billy something BIG and FAST! Jargo, I think we need to step up our game. Quote
Jargo Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 (edited) Indeed. So, taking into account the design feature across the theme of hero vehicles splitting into multiple vehicles, and the fact the red team are the speed experts what we need is something that splits into several small craft capable of high speed and manoeuvrability able to combat mosquitoid swarm craft. I'm thinking some sort of carrier that deploys several small pod like craft from under either wings or a belly with bays the pods snap into. each pod would basically be a cockpit, engine and weapons. light, fast, accurate and nippy. The carrier would also have to be quite sleek and possibly also split in two to become heavily armed support craft. Providing covering fire for the pods. The robot drones would fly the pods while Billy took the faster, sleeker front end of the carrier and a crewmate or two took the rear section. In a sense the whole thing would be a swarm to fight a swarm. Think like the enemy, act like the enemy, beat the enemy. Edited December 27, 2012 by Jargo Quote
TheRedGuy Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 DAT HIVE CRAWLER *Ehem* Love these new sets, they have interesting shapes and the big blue ship is just amazing. Hopefully they will make a third wave :P Quote
TenorPenny Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Such a great vibe from these sets. I mean, who doesn't like giant transforming robot/vehicles? If only now they made a rhino with articulated guns and hips... Quote
Graysmith Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Summer sets look brilliant. Hard to really judge based on thumbnail-sized photos, but it looks like another nice mix of bug-shaped alien vehicles and GS ships. I'll definitely be skipping the Bug Obliterator now and saving the money for the Galactic Titan, which looks similar but far more impressive. Also, to those who keep going on and on and on (and on) about the red team's lack of a larger vehicle; as others have pointed out, they're the speed team so it makes a lot of sense that they would keep to small, agile ships rather than large, slow vehicles/ships. DraikNova Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I think the best we can expect for the red team is just a vehicle that splits into smaller vehicles. And knowing LEGO, one of those will be on the front of the `main vehicle` and be used as the cockpit, and the others will be used secondary cockpits. Quote
Rez Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Looking pretty good. The longer a theme goes the happier I am with it, as I can pick and choose sets to my liking and not feel like something is missing. Seeing this, I'll stick to the blue guys for a nice little setup. 5 Space swarmers, 2 Swarm interceptors, and 1 Titan. The Titan looks like the obliterator done right, and that bug platform is giving me a real Zerg building from Starcraft vibe, which mean's it's my duty to get it and love it. A base would be cool but I'm not holding out much hope. When was the last time we got a space-themed playset that didn't belong to Star Wars? I couldn't stand either of the Mars tube cities. So it's been a long, long time. The underwater themes have given us way better space like bases. Quote

Rez Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Err... right. Totally "spaced" out on that! I love SP3, and yes that base was awesome. I take it back, it's been a long week!!! I hope that if we do get a base it's half as cool as that one. Quote
Algernon Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I think the Galactic Titan looks like a Solar Snooper on steroids: Which is probably why I like it so much. I'm still kind of feeling the lack of a big starship, but I like this. It's unique. Quote
DraikNova Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 On steroids, and then thrown out to be raised by the wolves and then given a snazzy blue-and-white paint job. Quote
jamesster Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 ... And again, the red team hardly gets anything. Sigh. Oh well, that's not to say the sets don't look awesome. The Galactic Titan looks excellent, even if it is yet another blue team vehicle. Can't quite make out the detail on the mech, but it looks nice too. I don't care for the bug vehicles as much, though, they're just not really my thing. Perhaps I'll resort to getting the red team minifigures on Bricklink. Quote

The red (and white) spaceman was the first ever space minifig back in 1978. People have a fondness for him. This is the closest we've got to a fully red spaceman in modern times. And even though we know that the red squad members are the ones with speed, not having a proper vehicle that actually looks like it could go 'zooooooooooom!' and 'whoooooooooosh!' is frustrating. Also Lego have pitted two tiny vehicles against big alien vehicles, hardly a fair fight. Those of us who go "on and on and on (and on)" would just like to see more respect for the red spaceman and reparation for being treated as second class. It doesn't have to be big, just bigger and able to go 'zooooooooooom!' and 'whoooooooooosh!'. Simples. Quote

BUT, just because something is big doesn't mean it has to be slow, this theme isn't exactly built around reality. Side by side, it really is quite sad. Poor Billy... I got my hands on good ol' Billy boy today. Awesome big vehicle and the mosquitoid is awesome! Edited December 28, 2012 by Legocrazy81 Quote
