PenPlays Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Galactic Titan... $99.99!!! How long has it been since there has been a set that has over 1,000 pieces in it that is priced below $120? Bought upon sight (unless there's Chima at wherever I find it at ) The rest of this theme looks amazing. Can't wait to lay my hands on them! Quote
SonofTheShire Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I hope this theme does continue next year. A large moonbase or a giant spaceship would be awesome. Quote
Algernon Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) New pictures are awesome, specifically the box pictures. Eradicator Mech looks FANTASTIC now though. I'm glad the Crater Creeper turned out to be kind of underwhelming, so I can save at least a few dollars this Summer. The Titan is as awesome as ever, same as the Hive Crawler. Good stuff. EDIT: Titan $99.99!! That's a very reasonable price for a set that large. Fantastic, LEGO. Edited February 10, 2013 by Algernon Quote
WiseWarrior Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Could anyone see how much the Hive Crawler was? I tried squinting but it was just too blurry for me. I was planning on buying all the insect vehicles, but I dunno about the Crater Creeper, it just looks meh to me. The new pictures of the Hive Crawler look great though, I was initially considering removing the lasers but after seeing the box art and additional pictures I'm reconsidering. All in all it looks phenomenal. Quote
vynsane Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) I think the Crater Creeper looks pretty awesome, personally. It looks like a solid $20 (maybe $25?) set. And another style trans-red windscreen (as part of the abdomen). And the green team is getting the dinky ride for a change... The Red Sled in the Hive Crawler is looking great, as well! And is it me, or is the Red team robot piloting a cave racer? EDIT: Brickset has Hive Crawler at $69.99. Edited February 11, 2013 by vynsane Quote
DraikNova Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Let me make a guess at how much I will spend on Galaxy Squad this year, if the prices are low and I don't buy multiples: 10+20+30+45+60+80+20+45+60+80=450!!! I'm going to have to skip some of those that aren't absolute favorites to keep this year affordable. Now, let's see again, with those sets removed: 30+60+45+60+80=275 Still a heck of a lot, but at least it's affordable. Quote
Bricknblue Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I hope this theme does continue next year. A large moonbase or a giant spaceship would be awesome. I agree, we need more bases and space ships. How can a theme that has "galaxy" in the title all take place on the moon? How did the aliens get to the moon? They don't seem to have a lot of space ships, it's all land vehicles. Quote
DraikNova Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 It might not be the moon, just a planet. And LEGO has given themes far less descriptive names in the past (what does M-Tron mean?). Quote
Algernon Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 It might not be the moon, just a planet. And LEGO has given themes far less descriptive names in the past (what does M-Tron mean?). "M" presumably stands for "Magnet" since the theme highlights magnets as a play function. But you're right, the names are pretty ambiguous. Personally, I don't mind the abundance of land vehicles. Although I prefer space-fairing vehicles, remember that Space Police had the opposite problem - only one or two land vehicles compared to two entire waves of starships. I think the theme is kind of characterized by ground-based combat, which is fine with me. I'm probably going to wind up blowing a good $250 on the Summer wave alone... I guess it's time to start saving eh? Quote
DraikNova Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Lucky you, I'm probably going to spend 180 euros on Hive Crawler multiples alone. Quote

I don't mind land vehicles, but I really like space ships more. I want a galaxy of crazy things. Plus some space ships with crazy bug wings and human fighter vipers would be awesome. :) Edited February 11, 2013 by Bricknblue Quote
Niku Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Awesome sets, I am not even into space but want to get them all. Quote
DraikNova Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 And space fans want to get multiples of each set. In my case I want to get triples of the Galactic Titan and the Hive Crawler. Quote
Algernon Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I'll have to admit that I never understood the appeal of purchasing multiples... Quote
WiseWarrior Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Just picked up a few of the sets today: Star Slicer, Warp Stinger, and Space Swarmer. Overall I'm very impressed, the sets look very nice and are even bigger than I expected. The Warp Stinger is really fragile, and it's hard to hold without pieces falling off, but it's going on display anyway so that's not a problem. Quote
GregoryBrick Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I'll have to admit that I never understood the appeal of purchasing multiples... You're not the only one. I'd rather have a different set (or the money in my pocket). There's lots to choose from in Galaxy Squad, especially with the new sets; I like the good-guy ships more than the bug-ships generally. The two smallest sets from the first wave seem like they have really good play value. Quote
Artanis I Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I'll have to admit that I never understood the appeal of purchasing multiples... You're not the only one. I'd rather have a different set (or the money in my pocket). For me, I like to have a fleet of ships, or ground vehicles. Simple example: SPII (because there were only 5 sets) - capital ship Galactic Mediator + 2 medium ships Rebel Hunter + 4 small ships Galactic Chief, 2 large vehicles Solar Snooper + 4 small vehicles Sonar Security. Put them all together it looks really cool, especially when the colour scheme is the same. It's also a bit more realistic than just one of each. Take a look at any army from any era, you may have 1 of a few things, but multiples of everything else. But, money... Quote
kumabot Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Am I correct that the only set containing the Red Buggoid is the 70703 Star Slicer? It doesn't appear that any of the future 2013 sets will include that minifig... Quote
Algernon Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Am I correct that the only set containing the Red Buggoid is the 70703 Star Slicer? It doesn't appear that any of the future 2013 sets will include that minifig... Correct, and for all we know it is quite likely that 70703 will be the only set to get the red Buggoid. A third wave remains but a possibility, and seeing as the red Buggoid is missing from the second wave, I'm pretty sure he's only around to add value to a store exclusive. I'd snatch him up while you can. Quote
WiseWarrior Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I'm probably the only one who does this, but has anyone else paired up the robots with the insects? In the original Insectoids theme the aliens had robots, so I just found it fitting since this theme is so similar to have the robots on the same side as the aliens. The red Buggoid and red robot look great together, and I'm pairing up the green Buggoid and blue robots, since I can't stand how the green robots look. I'm actually using those purple pods to hold the robots in, not as captives but just to store them in. Quote
Jargo Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 According to the back of the Galactic Titan box the flying vehicle is called a 'Deep Space Destroyer' and the ground vehicle is called a 'Planetary Defender'. Do the Bug Obliterator or Vermin Vaporizer have names for both vehicles? I haven't seen the back of those boxes. Quote
Only Sinner Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I'm really excited about that CLS-89 Eradicator Mech and 70707 seems like it could be a lucky number. Quote
DraikNova Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I've actually never bought multiples so far, but this theme is just too good for me to resist the temptation. Plus, here's a situation where multiples make sense and are actually canon! Quote

Yes, I don't have the Obliterator but in the Vermin Vaporizer the ground vehicle is called a "Mobile laboratory", the mini car is called "Battle buggy" and the mech is called... "Mec" (Not sure if that's intentional or a misspelling) Quote
PenPlays Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 It seem as if Brickset user wagnerml2 has found polybag 30231 Insectoid at Toys R Us. http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/9355/found-30231-poly-insectoid-at-us-toys-r-us#latest Quote
