Let's buy every single set twice to convince LEGO to continue  (I envy your wallet if you're capable of seriously doing this).

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this theme got canned after two waves - seems to be tradition at this point. :/

As much as I hate to agree with you with this notion, it is quite a possibility that it might not continue which I hope this theme will last longer than just mere two waves of release. Let's see if TLG could prove us wrong.

Found a GS Mini Mech polybag at stupid Walmart today! I went in for some insecticide spray and took a look around the tornado wreckage they call a toy department. In the midst of the smoldering pile of cheap chinese crap, a lone LEGO survivor calls out to me. Of course I rescued him and even searched the rest of the whole store twice over for his comrades, but he seemed to be the only one. I even asked the stockman and customer service, but no more.

It is a neat little set, but I don't one is going to be enough. Now, if only I can find a few green ones.

It's not a matter of getting "canned". It's more a matter of how hey plan things, and how they desire to keep the shelves fresh and new. They actually make most of the life cycle decisions long before they ever see sales numbers. They intentionally plan some sub themes to be only 1 wave ( such as PQ, Dino and MF) or 2 (sp3, original plans for AC, Mars Mission, Agents, Power Miners, etc) very very rarely will a line get three or more waves. Typically only themes backed by major multimedia pushes and products (Ninjago, Chima, Bionacle) or Broader continuous evergreen sub themes (city police, fire, etc).

Galaxy Squad feels like a two wave theme. We may get lucky. Atlantis got a very small extra third release. But that seems to be very unusual for TLG in the past few years.

Exactly. I think Monster Fighters was a hit and could've kept going, but only one wave was planned and that was it.

Keep in mind that a line of sets is planned very far in advance. They don't put out wave 1, wait to see how well it sells, then churn out a wave 2 if it goes well. If TLG had known early enough that the 3D SW movies were going to be put off, they wouldn't have made & be releasing all of those Episode 2 sets. We've known for a while now that the movies aren't happening, but the sets are still on the way. Also, when The Hobbit was changed to 3 movies, it was too late for TLG to change the sets being released.

Galaxy Squad's release longevity was most likely decided some time ago. (and 2 waves is common for action themes)

More I think of it, I think the next Space theme will be "childish" like the 2013 Castle line.

And, I got my hands on the sweet Mech set for 2013 Summer Galaxy Squad! Here's my video review of it!

Thanks for the review! The tr. neon canister parts look really nice, and the set itself seems pretty great too. Anyway, the "second escape pod" is actually supposed to stay on the mech.

Mantizoid? Since when did Mantises have 4 eyes? I love mantises though, so it makes me want it even more.

Mantises have five eyes as a matter of fact. The two large ones and three smaller ones on the top of their head (the things you learn on the internet).

Anywho, cool to see the sets are available. May have to make a trip to TRU sometime. Plus, there's the new Hero Factory sets that are possibly out that I want to get as well.

Thanks for the review J2G! I can't view it on mobile, but I'll definitely watch it ASAP.

If I see any GS, I'm going to snatch a whole handfull of em.

If anyone here sees any Space Insectroid polys I suggest you grab 'em, I tried buying one off of eBay and it went for $6+$2shipping! :-/

I had a similar experience…

Great review! My set just shipped today. Very excited. A little bummed about the lack of stability of the mech, but it still looks awesome.

It might work better if you position the feet and legs like in the picture on the box, not standing straight up. Think of how to stand on a skateboard. You should be able to achieve the best stability, without any major mods.

I am also really looking forward to this set. I would like to get three of these.

Thank you 'Only Sinner'! It works PERFECT that way. This was a huge sloppy mistake on my part, so I do apologize to all the viewers and all my subscribers on my part. I really enjoy the set now! :sweet:

Heck, look how I can pose it now! So stable!

Thanks! 'Only Sinner' showed that the set is indeed sturdy, you just have to position those two rods on the back. I hope you enjoy the set! :classic:

The Mech looks nice. May get that sooner than later. I'm a sucker for mechs, and the more I look at this one, the cooler it looks. Plus those bugs are really sweet. Seems like they'd fit well along side the Space Swarmer.

Though, I agree with what you said in the review, just2good. I wish there were more minifigs. At least one insect minifig would be most welcome.

Loving the look of the mech. It's not my absolute favorite LEGO mech, per se, but it's still great and I plan on picking it up! Where have you been finding the summer sets??

Posted

Now that Toys R Us has the Summer Galaxy Squad sets in stock, when do you think it's probable that the Lego stores will be getting them in as well? I have one right next to my local Toys R Us, and would much rather pay $60 for the Hive Crawler than $75.

Isn't the MSRP $69.99?

Had this question floating around:

The Eradicator Mech's "CLS-89" tag. Is that a reference to anything? I thought I read somewhere (here, I think) that it was, but I can't remember.

And I don't know where I'd begin to look to find out.

The first thing that springs to mind when I hear "CLS" is Classic Space. According to Brickset, the last Classic Space sets were released in 1988 (although sets may have continued to be sold up through '89), and there were 89 sets in the "theme". I don't know if either of these is the explanation; the beginning and end points of Classic Space are fuzzy and vague, with the final Classic Space sets almost indistinguishable from the succeeding Futuron sets, so I wouldn't consider Brickset's categorization foolproof.

Classic Space is whatever you prefer. It's not a TLG invention and thus not canon. Imho, these sets got diddly to do with CS

Most of the times when letters are part of a sticker, it's the designer's initials

The set designers are more aware of the fan community, and their naming conventions, then you'd think. Space Police and Alien Conquest contained clear shoutouts to Classic Space as the fan community understands it, and one could argue that the multicolored uniforms of Galaxy Squad are descended thematically from the many colors of Classic Space figs.

But of course the date of the theme's "end", as well as the number of sets considered to be a part of it, are both questionable statistics that may not prove to be accurate (or even relevant) to someone on the inside of the company. The initials idea is probably more plausible. Maybe the designer's initials and their birth date? The date of their first set? 89 sounds more like a date than anything else to me; it's too low to be a set number and seemingly too high to be some quantity (such as number of sets the designer has designed, etc.).

Where do you get this assumption from?

Eta: Not what the designers are aware of, but what I think? I'm quite aware of the refs in SPIII and designers like Mark Stafford's love of (all things space), but multicoloured figs is not an argument for CS :def_shrug:

I find this theme to be more like Insectoids/Mars/AQ than anything CS

Went to TRU today, but no luck with the new sets. I really want to get my hands on the Eradicator Mech. Oh well, there's always the next time.
