Amset-Rah Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Looking at the Summer wave, I don't think there's a miss in the bunch. I'm happy that the green and orange teams have the cheaper sets this go around and the blue and red teams are mre expensive. The Hive Crawler and mech are both must haves, but the Galactic Titan is a classic as well. Quote
The_Creator Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Since the 2nd wave is hitting shelves now will the 1st wave be getting discontinued? Quote
Algernon Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Since the 2nd wave is hitting shelves now will the 1st wave be getting discontinued? No. They'll be on the shelves until the end of 2013 at the least, and even after that, they'll be on Ebay for cheap for several months. My plan is to wait until my next paycheck and do a massive Galaxy Squad spending spree on both waves. Quote
Aanchir Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Where do you get this assumption from? Eta: Not what the designers are aware of, but what I think? I'm quite aware of the refs in SPIII and designers like Mark Stafford's love of (all things space), but multicoloured figs is not an argument for CS I find this theme to be more like Insectoids/Mars/AQ than anything CS The theme doesn't have to be based directly on Classic Space to include a classic space reference or shout-out. I think there are definitely comparisons to be made between the two themes as well, even though the meanings of the colored suits in Galaxy Squad (individual squads with different tactics) are very different than the meanings of the Classic Space uniform colors (roles like scientist, warrior, explorer, etc). But I agree the number in the Eradicator Mech's name doesn't seem to make sense as a Classic Space reference, unless there's some detail we're missing. I'm thinking there's a strong likelihood Nabii was involved in this set's design (he is TLG's go-to mech designer these days, it seems), and if not I'm sure he at least knows the designer, so perhaps he'll be able to shed some light on the meaning of the name once the sets have been out for a month and he no longer has to keep quiet about them. Hrw-Amen Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 So most of these alien vehicles look like they are planet based crawlers and are piloted by alien crew. Do we think they are actually alive as some of the smaller ones appear to be unpiloted? Is it a case that they get a pilot at the certain stage of maturity, are the little ones just babies or are they fullt grown but of a different bug species? Does being small and able to act alone make the small ones actually smarter as they do not need to be piloted, or are they as I said just babies acting out of instinct with the swarm? What benefit do the piloted ones get? Is it sort of symbiotic or are the pilots really in control or does the bug get a say, or even is the bug alive at all, mis it just some alien craft constructed to look like a bug? If this is the case then why do they have smaller un-manned (Un-aliened?) ones at all? Quote
1974 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I think there are definitely comparisons to be made between the two themes as well .. They do not share ; Colour (main, accent and/or trans) Theme (no bugs, nor any conflict in CS) Figs (each team has it's own colour, CS is random) Droids/robots (minifig bodies with new heads, CS is brickbuild) And none of the GS vehicles even look remotely like CS So, I'm not sure what you mean? Banjo Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Loving this series even more now I've built what I have! Not as much as I adored Alien Conquest (it's what got me back into Lego!) but it's great fun as as close to Aliens/Starship Troopers as TLG will ever go, I suspect. That mech looks awesome! If we're only getting two waves, I'll likely buy a second of each set, I think. At least that's one more wave than my beloved AC got! :( The one thing this theme really needs, IMO, is "battle packs" though. While I prefer the brick-built "bugs" to the bug minifigs, those awesome critters need to be available for army-builders, either in carded battlepacks (buggoid, mosquitoid, 2 humans and a robot?) like they did for AC, or the "handful of figs and a small build" (one for good guys, one for the bugs) like they do for the Star Wars line. Oh, and I'm STILL looking for the Star Slicer and Mini-Mech without luck. The polybag I can understand as those things are super-rare "ebay only" things it seems for Australians. But the Star Slicer being unbuyable from any local stores (brick and mortar or online), even Lego's own online store (!) is baffling to me... US, UK and even New Zealand have it listed to buy from Lego but not here?! Can any fellow Aussies who have the set suggest where I could buy one without paying a fortune in overseas postage? Quote
Ardelon Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Now that I think about it, having color-coded uniforms according to battle tactics doesnt seem very smart. One look at the GS uniforms/vehicles and the Bugs would know what tactic to expect and how to adapt and exploit their weaknesses... Quote

I completely agree with the battle packs idea, this line of Space more than any before it needs them because of it's serious lack of Astronaut minifigs in the sets, and the fact a single, cheap set can't be used as an army builder because of the different coloured factions (unless you want an army of blue androids). I'd love those two polybag sets and the Star Slicer, but none of the Australian shops seem to be getting them this time, including Toy World and Toys R Us. I eventually just bit the bullet and ordered a Star Slicer on eBay, it ended up costing me around $56 shipped from Korea, so I'm waiting for that to arrive now. Quote

Good luck with the polybags. Star Slicer I'm not sure if it will turn up with the next lot or not. I eventually just bit the bullet and ordered a Star Slicer on eBay, it ended up costing me around $56 shipped from Korea, so I'm waiting for that to arrive now. That's probably the go. That's why you attack with a mixed & balanced army, and force them to micro-manage. Have you tried playing StarCraft? Don't send a whole army of zealots if the enemy is going to be able to just shoot them down from the air. Quote

I would really like to see some SW styled battlepacks! Or just have a wide release of a poly for each team(re-release Mini Mech and the other one I forgot the name of :P). I actually never saw the Green Team poly at TRU… and I could only find one measly Mini Mech. :-/ Edited May 9, 2013 by The_Creator Quote

I mean, Galaxy Squad has one unified human faction with a variety of minifigures color-coded according to their role within the organization. This is something it has in common with Classic Space and to a lesser extent with Futuron. I'm not saying it's BASED on classic space, or even that there was any direct inspiration from Classic Space, but there are still valid comparisons to be made with Classic Space in that regard, just like how comparisons can be made between the enemy faction and the Insectoids (which likewise lacked any conflict, had a completely different color scheme, had traditional minifigures rather than ones with specialized heads, and had vastly different-looking and differently-constructed vehicles). Especially since Galaxy Squad is the first Space theme in over a decade to have so many colors of uniform within one faction. Edited May 9, 2013 by Aanchir Quote

PenPlays Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 No. Just Toys R Us. The employees at my local Lego Store still have no idea of a release date. Quote

Lance Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 (edited) According to a Lego store manager, Galaxy Squad should release on the 1st of next month in the UK Edited May 16, 2013 by Lance Quote
PenPlays Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 (edited) Nevermind. Local Lego store is receiving their early Summer shipment next week. They said that they will put them out unless there is a date specifying it. Just got the Star Slicer. I am in love with the build, and the Blue GS Vehicle is just icing on the cake!
