XimenaPaulina Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I cant think why but for some reason I swear I have seen the shirt the person is wearing in that picture of the interior of the boat set somewhere before (as a shirt, as a minifig/minidoll torso or as an image in an instruction booklet) I believe those floral prints on the shirt are Emma's signature flower prints. Oky Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Is it just me or does the Dolphin Cruiser look very similar to my Friend Ship? Anyway, it's a very nice set, and so is the school. Not too excited about any of the other sets. The Downtown Bakery is too similar to the City Park Cafe for my taste (no pun intended). Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 'Oky' yours doesn't look as long but I see what you mean.....perhaps great minds think alike eh ? Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I agree with Oky, the Bakery was initially one of the sets I was looking forward to the most, but it seems to have almost exactly the same features as the City Park Cafe. I'm also disappointed with the small sets in this wave. I did not think Andrea's bedroom would be almost exclusively devoted to beauty products. I don't want Andrea to be the beauty-obsessed Friend! The big sets, however, more than make up for the disappointing smaller ones. The Dolphin Cruiser looks wonderful, except for the rather ridiculous curly slide on its stern. I'm sure it will be easy to take that off, though, leaving you with a very nice yacht of an impressive size and surprisingly neutral colors. The dolphins are super-squealy-cute. Wish they were a tiny bit bigger, though. They look rather guppyish! The school is also awesome and a definite buy for me. All three minifigs are great, and this is another set that could easily fit into other settings. I'm thinking I'll get the Cruiser for Spawn #1's birthday, the Bakery for Spawn #2, and the school for myself. I'm also looking forward to the fawn, hedgehog and poodle polybags. The Friends animals have gotten much better after the original puppy and kitten - those were hideous IMO, but all the animals that came afterwards have been less exaggerated and slightly more realistic. I got the squirrel and cat polys for my daughters a few days ago, and think I'll have to go get at least another squirrel for myself. That little guy is great! Looking like a VERY nice year for Friends! Quote

Looking like a VERY nice year for Friends! I like the original Friends kitten, myself. Realism is not what I look for in LEGO animals, and I liked the fact that its geometries were slightly stylized as opposed to, say, the classic Belville kitten, which felt just like a real kitten rendered in somewhat low detail. A'course the eye prints still make me hesitant to use LEGO Friends animals with System models, but consistent eye printing is a pretty big deal for me in LEGO. I agree the poodle is a great design, and unlike a lot of Friends animals, you can't even really argue for it to be boxier for use in System, because poodles are an inherently poofy breed, and a boxy look wouldn't work too well for them. Brickity Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 The sets look very appealing (Especially with the school, bakery and cruiser) They did a good job with the boxes too. But as always with friends sets, I'm not interested in building the sets... but getting all those colorful and varied pieces for MOCs. Quote

The official one is I think a little longer and thy are both flowery and bright and friendly. Then again that is what you would expect from a Friends boat isn't it? Quote
CopMike Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Looks really good to me, more parts and figs to incorporate in the city ! Is it Light Yellow I see in the Heartlake High 41005 ? Quote
Aanchir Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Looks really good to me, more parts and figs to incorporate in the city ! Is it Light Yellow I see in the Heartlake High 41005 ? Well, Cool Yellow (Bricklink's Bright Light Yellow), which is only slightly different from classic Light Yellow. I agree it looks quite nice and makes the school stand out. Quote
Lance Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I'm not a fan of the Friends theme, but that Dolphin Cruiser looks I may have to pick that one up for me and my son's City... Quote

RoxYourBlox Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I was glad to read the Friends line won at the Toy Fair, just as it was cool to see Oppenheim Toy Award stickers appear on City Cafe and Olivia's House boxes. Currently, the schoolhouse and cruiser are at the top of my Lego want lists for 2013, since they contain the minute details and scenarios that interest my kindergartner lately. (And I wouldn't mind playing boats with her, either!) Friends is seemingly able to tackle a wider range of themes than the City line. So, if any Lego designers are reading this, I'd like to see Friends indulge AFOLs and girls alike by (finally!) introducing a zoo theme for a post-Duplo age group. Quote
Maya Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I'm excited about lots of different details in these new sets. I'm happy about the cool yellow school walls and bakery floor. The bakery contains fun food items like buildable cakes and star-shaped cookies as well as a baguette, a croissant and a pretzel! I also see a wedding cake! The cherry included in the bakery is pink, and that must be something new! Also the pink flowers outside the school seem to be in a different shade of pink. Just like many people writing on this thread, I'm really impressed with the cruiser! There are so many reasons I have to have it!! The boat is simply beautiful, the fully furnished interior seems so much fun to play with, the exclusive Andrew mini-doll, etc. But did anyone notice that the bathroom/toilet area in the cruiser had no doors on either side of the walls? And I think one of the walls is even transparent! I guess Friends don't need barriers anywhere. I would probably like a little more privacy, though. Another thing that made me all excited is the new mini-doll named Maya in Dolphin Cruiser! She has long black hair with bangs, brown eyes, and is wearing a top with a cherry blossoms pattern. I think her shirt design is a subtle message that this character can be Japanese (or Asian). Of course people can see her as a Caucasian girl with black hair and a Japanese-inspired shirt on, but the addition of this new character might make some Asian girls and their parents happy that there's at least one character who looks like themselves! I'm also Maya from Japan with black hair and brown eyes, and I can't wait to meet the mini-doll Maya! Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I haven't seen good enough pics of the Cruiser to notice details of the minidolls, but if there is an Asian character it's great news. TLG have done a nice job promoting diversity in the Friends characters, and I've been hoping they would introduce some Asian minidolls soon. Also, Maya was one of my favorite childhood nicknames. Strangely enough, just this morning I had a conversation with a client about a friend of hers who has the same name as me, and is also nicknamed Maya! There are Mayas everywhere today! Hello Maya! Quote
Maya Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Heartlakefriends.com did a wonderful Toy Fair coverage on LEGO Friends, and I saw the close-up picture of Maya there! As I said earlier, she can be a white girl, but LEGO designed Maya this way so that some people see her as Asian and they can say that the cruiser set contains one minority character. I think that's a good move; if Heartlake City is supposed to be like a modern US city, people will eventually start asking for an Asian character. And girls who don't look quite like any of the characters created so far may find Maya more like themselves whether they are Asian or not. I haven't personally met many Maya's here in the US, but I've know some Maya's from Japan as well as from the Netherlands. They have chosen quite a few names that end in -a for Friends characters. Happy Valentines Day, everyone! Quote

You're right; she could have whatever ethnic origin you want her to have. Reminds me of Joanna from the Pet Salon - she is obviously a POC, but her specific ethnicity is wide open for your interpretation. The 2013 minidolls are really outstanding in this regard. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 Thank you all very much for the information, the links and the pictures! School  Although I would have prefered a City school instead of a Friends school, I'm really happy that we finally get a school! I do really like the interior of the school. The only two things I have to criticize are that both classrooms feature room for only two pupils - that' really bad - and that we get no regular classroom (the one is an art room and the other one is a room for science. Otherwise it's a great set. The basketball basket seems a bit oversized, but is nevertheless a nice addition for the school yard. Dolphin Cruiser  The yacht does look amazing! The interior is deisnged very well. Only the windows between the bathroom and the living room disturbs. (Do they want to watch people sitting on the toilet instead of watching TV?!) Bakery  This is a stunning set! The displays with the big cakes look amazing and the interior seems to be great, too! It's a pity that there isn't a second floor with a small office, a bedroom or a living room. Klaus-Dieter Quote
