Mr Spielbrick Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 How on earth is DISNEY, of all companies, going to pull off Red's business? There were several characters practising the same trade in Disney's very own Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. No problem there, no problem here, I'm sure. Quote
8BrickMario Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I haven't seen the PotC movies, so I wouldn't know. Disney certainly hides a lot of adult stuff... Quote
Faefrost Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Seeing as this is an adult forum I think it's okay to ask: How on earth is DISNEY, of all companies, going to pull off Red's business? It is certainly very mature and not-for-kids, so how will they confer what it is without making it explicit and overly offensive? (If I should remove this segment of the post, please tell me! I will do so as soon as I get the word!) Heck forget the movies...Disney has an example of "Red's Business" in their classic Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Including a bit where the Pirates are auctioning off women. They will handle it the way Westerns have been doing for 80 years. Putting it out in the open and otherwise ignoring it and calling no attention to it. Quote
bekindsorewind Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 (edited) Red's shotgun leg is so ridiculous, so over-the-top, and so awesome! I love it! Edited April 12, 2013 by bekindsorewind Quote
8BrickMario Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Red's shotgun leg is so ridiculous, so over-the-top, and so awesome! I love it! I know, right? Who comes up with this stuff? I think Red lost her leg by an unhealable gunshot wound, so she got a leg that could shoot! By the way, I liked your train review better than YCF's! Thanks! Quote

8BrickMario Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) I would lose a whole lot of respect for LEGO if she had a flick-fire missile in her leg! A trans-orange stud, a few clear studs with and a black stud at the end of her foot would recreate it (firing) really well! Mr. Elijah Timms Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Saw the entire line at my TRU in the Northeast US tonight. Used this weeks 20% Off coupon to get the Comanche Camp set for $20, essentially removing the TRU markup. LOVE IT!! Quote
JeagerEX Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) So this is the only new product this month of April I know, but I don't really want to buy it . I'll just wait for Series 10 Minifigures to release next month. Edited April 13, 2013 by JeagerEX Quote
Mr_Malfoy Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Red's shotgun leg is so ridiculous, so over-the-top, and so awesome! I love it! Same here! She's now shaping up to be my favorite character. Quote
8BrickMario Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) I don't know exactly why I like the character, she's just so interesting, not to mention I like the actress. I wish she was given one line (at least) in the trailers so we could get an idea of her personality/voice. I want to know just a bit more so that when I play with my Red minifig, I'll be more accurate. Darn it, Disney! You agreed to let LEGO release your sets (probably) as a TEASER! I wish I could see the film like the LEGO designers did. I'm still curious as to the "red herring" bit in Red's name....or is it a red herring in itself? Edited April 13, 2013 by 8BrickMario Quote
Only Sinner Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Oops. You're right. I'm wrong. Well, both Depp figs appear in sets with plastic waterfall sheets! The Tonto minifig does come with a stopwatch. That's probably an important prop in the movie, the same as Captain Jack's compass in POTC. Quote
8BrickMario Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I saw a trailer saying that the watch controlled the future.... So the rewrite isn't completely supernatural-free. The mistake I made was thinking that Jack and Tonto had watches, but only Tonto does. Quote
JeagerEX Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 God have mercy, I don't really like this theme because the mold of the revolvers looks like a real-life firearms and it considered against TLG non-violence policy. Why LEGO did not use a regular pistol accessory? I hope this theme should be discontinued next year or if its good if LEGO make Lone Ranger sets based on the old television series with a regular pistols instead of the newly molded ones. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I don't see any reason for them to abandon the new mold in favor of the old one (since they already put a lot of money into the mold) and they wouldn't do an old tv series since they have a license for a new movie coming out. That statement is puzzling to me. Either way, these look like some of the best Licensed sets LEGO has come up with. And I know very little about this movie. I think that says something. As much as I loved the POTC movies, the sets were just pretty decent. But these sets seem great. Quote
JeagerEX Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 But I don't really buy those sets, because I'm still waiting for CMF Series 10 to release this May. And also If those sets released, I only buy a Cavalry Builder set, a few random yellow male headpiece and an original LEGO revolver then I'll replace to flesh ones. Sorry about to say that. Quote
deskp Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Noone is expecting this theme to continue unless theres a new movie right? Quote
JeagerEX Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Noone is expecting this theme to continue unless theres a new movie right? It will continue if there's a sequel of this movie, but if there's no sequel planned TLG will discontinue the theme just like Prince of Persia. And why Pirates of the Caribbean was discontinued quick? Since there's no At World's End sets made yet. Quote

And why Pirates of the Caribbean was discontinued quick? Since there's no At World's End sets made yet. I think the license is somewhat broader and encompasses the Disney Bruckheimer type action movies. So the PotC, PoP, LR etc. there was also some preliminary work and scketch models made for John Carter before everyone saw the writing on that wall. My point is his is basically one big license, Disney Action, with each sub theme bumping the other for the summer movie slot sets. PotC is not cancelled. It's on hiatus until the next movie. We may get this and a small follow up from LR, and then wait until the next one. The new gun molds I don't have an issue with. Lego has long shown deep thought and reasonable compromise when they make these changes. Context is everything. You will not see a gun in a city theme police officers hand or a city crooks. No direct modern weapons. But updating that revolver piece doesn't come close. Plus they needed a mold that could handle pearl silver. As an added bonus, in bright glob or reddish brown the new six shooters work much better for some Star Wars weapons, such as cad bane or amid alas pistols. Quote
Mr_Malfoy Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 The sets are now available on S@H USA. Can't wait to buy these! Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 After building the Comanche Camp set, I find myself itching for more... These sets, this theme is great, and the oddest thing is it really has nothing at all to do with any upcoming movie or even the Lone Ranger myths at all. I think TLG, and even more so Disney, has a perfect opportunity with this line simply because we haven't had ANY Western sets in so long, and certainly not since Lego builders upped the ante with more complex builds, custom pieces, and expanded color palettes. The Western theme was so ripe for the picking, Disney & TLG probably could have announced a licensed theme based off a Lindsay Lohan cowboy movie and it still would probably work. Yes, assembling your first Lone Ranger & Tonto minifigs is a nice, novel experience... But these sets would sell just fine without any of the "Hiiiyo Silver"'s and what not. Think of it this way-- Pitates of the Caribbean was an okay licensed theme-- but imagine if we hadn't had any pirate sets since the 90's. WE'd have all been much more excited, not because it was Capt. Jack Sparrow, but because it was LEGO PIRATES! If nothing else, let's hope the numbers make it very clear to TLG that there's a clear market for a full-blown, non-licensed Western theme. Quote
bekindsorewind Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Lone ranger sets are also now available on Amazon.com for retail price! http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=lego+lone+ranger Quote
BrickG Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) I've got to say, those minifigure "tools" that are just printing on flat bricks are really, really lame. The stopwatch. The slingshot. Just terrible. It's too bad because the rest looks great. Edited April 15, 2013 by BrickG Quote

I wonder since slingshots are banned in Australia is the reason why we got a printed tile with a picture of a slingshot instead of a new mold. That's just my thoughts. And I think the stopwatch could've been a 1x1 round tile instead of the square. POTC had it but the round tile wasn't out then ;) Quote

Totally agree, I certainly hope we get a nok-licensed Western theme sometime in the next couple years. Quote
