Phantomscream Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 But I actually think I'm going to enjoy the movie and I will definitely buy the coach & train no matter what I think of the film after watching it. The sets are great even if they are part of licensed theme. The reviews of PotC 2 & 3 were also negative and I still enjoyed those two movies. Too bad that critics influence a lot of people's opinions. I still believe in The Lone Ranger This. Critic opinions influence the opinion of the everyday moviegoer more than they should, the film looks great! Anyhoo, I wonder how accurate the sets are to the film (aside from the Silvermine and Constitution Chase, which are pretty much given), the Comanche Camp set definitely relates to the bit in the trailers where the duo are buried in the sand and are about to be attacked by scorpions. tedbeard Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 That reminds me of Cars 2, where the critics hated it, but general audiences liked it. If by "general audiences" you mean "children under 5" the yes. Cars 2 was so bad even my two youngest (11 and 7) won't watch it, and they LOVED Cars (as did I). I think there have been some positive reviews of LR and there is a small chance that "Westerns" may become popular again. I wouldn't wait for PoP style clearance sales. PoP was a total bomb without a bankable star. Quote
deskp Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 It's pretty clear that Disney want this to be a franchise (Depp, Hammer rumored to have signed a multi-film deal). Its common practise to sign multi film contracs with actors in any move that even ahs the sligthers possebility of becoming a franchise. Thats said, Hammer has signed on for more Depp has NOT. Quote
Brickus Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 (edited) I was pleasantly surprised to find out, after having watched the movie, that all the sets apart from the best, the Stagecoach, were fairly accurate to the movie. A Stagecoach wasn't even featured in the movie, also the Lone Ranger doesn't fight the cavalry by himself, but the cavalry is in the movie, and should be in the Mine set. LuxorV Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I know this may be a bit tricky to separate at times, but please try to keep the set-oriented discussion in this topic and the film/movie-oriented discussion in the relevant topic in Culture and Multimedia. Thank you. Quote
Lance Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 (edited) According to a London Westfield Lego store employee, the sets are out August 1st. EDIT: Manager said that that was a mix up. The real release date is July 15th Edited July 6, 2013 by Lance Quote
Sandy Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 According to a Westfield employee, the sets are out August 1st. They've been out since June. Quote
Lance Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 They've been out since June. Not in the UK unfortunately. Quote
bekindsorewind Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Exactly like PoP, Lone Ranger is now considered a box office bomb. I wonder what that means with the sales of the sets. PoP stayed on shelves for a long time, I wonder if we'll see the same fate happen to these sets. Quote

There are a lot of uses you can put that set to. Quote
eyevariety Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 These sets are so much better done than the previous Western themes. I hope the movie is successful just so we see expansion of the line with Lego. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Well, I hope they end up like PoP. I really want the train. Silver Mine's nice too. Quote
Brickadiergerard Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 (edited) These sets are so much better done than the previous Western themes. I hope the movie is successful just so we see expansion of the line with Lego. I agree they're much better, but part of that is to do with how much the look of lego has moved on since the early western ranges. At the time, those sets were great. If the film has bombed, surely that means it's game over for the range. The prices of them in the UK are very high, the economy is still in a bit of an iffy state so people have less ready money to fling at pieces of plastic, and if the film isn't enough to make people swallow all of that and buy the sets, these'll be left behind as people go for the latest City, Star Wars or LOTR ones. PotC at least began when the franchise still seemed successful, whereas if the reports of the film bombing are true, then the decision to bring out a range based on it is probably closer to Speed Racer than PotC. I'd been hoping for an updated western theme for a while, supported the modular town on cuusoo, and think the LR sets are great (although they're STILL not available in the UK), but I bet that the LR range spells doom for any prospect of a general western range in the near future. Think of the effect PotC had on the wonderful renaissance of the Pirates theme. There was so much more potential for sets there - forts, harbours, more boats, islanders - but PotC stopped all that in its tracks, and gave us some good but over-priced ships, fleshie heads, and some handy torsos for use in LOTR and other historic ranges, and lots and lots of sets sitting unsold on shelves (at least in the UK). BlueberryWaffles Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 (edited) No, POTC replaced Pirates. PoP replaced Indy. Edited July 6, 2013 by Tolkien Quote
Lance Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I wouldn't mind LR ending up like PoP. That way I could get the train cheaper Quote
just2good Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 No, POTC replaced Pirates. PoP replaced Indy. I doubt PoP replaced Indy- they're two unrelated licenses. I'm sure we'll see a new Western theme in a few years if this really is a bomb. Quote
Bobsy Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Not in the UK unfortunately. They've been available via Amazon for a while now. I picked up the Stagecoach and Cavalry sets. They are cracking good. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I'm torn. I already own all of the sets, but if I could find some on discount thanks to a movie bomb, then I'd be happy for that. But on the other hand, I'd want to see more future sets if there were to be a sequel also. I typically enjoy Disney live action movies, so I will see this, but I have the tendency to see less movies in theaters than I used to and not necessarily because of the economy. I just prefer to watch at home, so that won't help them any. As much as I enjoyed the POTC movies, the sets were decent, but I think the LR sets are even better and I haven't seen the movie. We shall wait and see how it ends up. Maybe the initial critics weren't impressed, but word of mouth will spread and the general public will enjoy it. I think doing a $250 million movie is troubling for any franchise (unless it is Super Hero related these days). Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I never held out much hope for the movie but these sets really stand on their own, much more so than PoP. I think they still might appeal enough to the general market even if the movie loses money. I wouldn't mind finding some of these on sale but I also wouldn't mind TLG producing more if the film were successful enough for a sequel. Quote
305Bats Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I'm telling you right now there won't be a sequel! Who is the genius at Disney that decided to release TLR same day as Despicable Me 2,what morons! Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 ^ Film release dates are set years in advance. Besides, the summer movie season means that any given film is bound to face stiff competition no matter the weekend it's released. Quote
