More or less done, both digitally and in real bricks :sweet:

Haven't gotten around to taking photos yet, but here is a teaser of the internals:

Will make a full presentation when I have taken the pictures, and hopefully also made a video

Here is the compact transmission box to go from two vertically parallell horizontal axles, through a turntable.

horizontal-vertical_transmission.jpg

As you can see, it is only 5x5x4 studs, and very strong once it is properly braced (gears haven't slipped once in this iteration  ), and that's what the axles are for. The base design can be modified quite a lot, when it comes to where to brace it (for example, you can switch the 2L axles for 3L axles and vice versa, and add pins and 3/4 pins in most pin holes).

Anyhow, here is the .lxf of it if anyone would like to take a closer look :classic:

New MOC in progress:

8x4_chassis_underside.jpg

It is an 8x4 truck in the same scale as the 8258 Crane Truck, but a bit shorter.

I am making the chassis first, because I haven't decided yet what kind of truck to build...

It features

-a fake V-8 driven by both rear axles

-rearmost axle can be disconnected from the driveline if one wants to lift it etc.

-independent double wishbone suspension on the fore two axles

-live axle suspension on the rear two axles

-different steering angle on the two steered axles (of course)

Will update once I have more

New project! :classic:

I am trying to make a Formula 1, or at least open wheeled, car in roughly the same size as the official Formula 1 cars from LEGO, but with the added awesomeness of RC Buggy Motors.

I made a rear axle last week:

800x450.jpg

I have never made push rod suspension before, so this one will have to be redesigned. Had waaay too much travel and was a little soft.

The design is very solid, which was a little challenge, trying to keep it that narrow.

Yesterday I made the front axle, based around the RC Buggy Steering Unit.

800x450.jpg

Suspension here worked far better, so will try to implement a variant of this one in the revised rear axle.

The RC BatteryBox/Receiver unit is placed as far up ahead as possible to hopefully reduce grip on rear tyres and induce some drift! :sweet:

I have absolutely no idea if this car will be too large/heavy for the motors to handle, but I am trying to make it as light as possible.

I finished the Formula 1 car, and it worked very well, using only CV joints connected directly to the wheels.

It is now dismantled, and tonight I started conceptualizing my next project, which is a bit more winter-y :classic:

Just a work in progress, to check necessary dimensions and general layout options for the electric components

New year, new things to build :thumbup:

I wanted to make a small/medium sized mobile crane using the wheels and tires from the new garbage truck 42024, but building small is a bigger challenge than I thought!

As it stands now, it is still a work in progress, and I am not sure if I'll finish it or not.. But I've never built a mobile crane MOC before, so hopefully it'll come along eventually..

So far I have only built the chassis in real bricks, and just started to make the superstructure in LDD, as you can see:

1024x525.jpg

It has 6 wheel steering, and a V8 driven from the 3rd axle (similar setup to 8421 I think...). The outriggers are pneumatic, and the switch is in the rear, just above the HOG steering.

The pneumatic pump pivots up 90 degrees so one can use it, then tucks down nicely beside the engine, as it is in the picture. Air tank in the front lets you have a pressure reserve.

A couple of days ago, I started yet another project, and unfortunately this takes presedence over the Crane.

I present to you THE SWINGLOADER MARK III !

1024x525.jpg

This time it is something a little different, based off the Mecalac AS210E..

The biggest difference lies in the fact this is not an articulated machine, but rather has four wheel steering.. This apparently makes for a more stabile loader, when swinging your load to the sides :sweet:

Also a WIP, and I have just ordered some more parts to continue the build :classic:

1024x525.jpg

Check out my bricksafe SwingLoader Mk III folder for some more LDD screenshots of the WIP.

The actual brick model is coming along nicely, and has already got the boom and bucket assembly more or less figured out.:classic:

EDIT: added direct link to bricksafe folder

I have already bought all missing parts for the swing Loader Mk II.

Do you think it's worth waiting for the new version?

Thanks! Hope to get in some good hours this weekend!:wink:

Nah, go ahead, I can't guarantee this turns out better

Also, a lot of the parts will be present in both models I think, at least the important ones (except this new one uses + 1 servo motor and - 1 M-motor and 2 small LAs...

If i get around to making instructions for the finished model, it won't be anytime soon either, so go ahead and enjoy the Mk II in the meantime :sweet:

New WIP, 42009 C-model

1024x525.jpg

To make sure I use only the parts that come in the 42009 box, I took the premade .lxf file of 42009 I found in the LDD forum, and I pick the pieces from that model and place them on my model to the left. A bit frustrating to look for small parts that there aren't that many of, but you know they are there

I'm going for a 10 wheel truck with a hook lift on the back.

It has 3 axle steering, and a V8 for now.

Hope to get in at least four motorized functions:

-lifting rear axle (was going for lifting 3rd axle, but it's kinda difficult to re-center the steering without a knob wheel or three.. :classic: )

-tilting cabin

-hook lift

-extention of the hook lift

I don't have the 42009, but will try to build an actual model in the future...

Many things going on at once now:

-Fully motorized 42028 (almost finished)

-Mobile crane

-Swingloader Mk III

-And now this 42009 C-model

:sweet:

D3K, instead of taking the whole set, you can also generate a .lxf with all the parts of a set with LDDmanager

Sounds interesting! Thanks for the tip!

I'll keep that in mind till next time

Seriously? A hooklift truck as c-model for 42009?

Get out of my brain man. That's what I am experimenting with for the last 2 weeks.

Haha, great minds think alike!:laugh: Should be interesting to see our different approaches! Have you started your build?

EDIT:

Some progress:

Yes I have started to build it. But until now, I basically have only a rolling chassis and several approaches for the extending hooklift mechanism.

Contrary to yours, mine will only have 3 axles with the latter 2 being with twin wheels. The rest might become similar, like the MAN style cabin.
