Though he'll need to add the quaterdeck. Maybe 4-6 guns on it.

The only issues I have with this design are the guns, which I would have staggered like -_-_-_-_-_-_- rather than like ========= because the weight of the cannons on top of each other is structurally unsound in real life, as ship designers found out in numerous disasters involving this setup during the 1500s. The other problem I have is a matter of personal taste, red is my favourite colour hands down, but I'm not sure I like the effect of solid red. My preferred colour scheme I'm still trying to determine, but I think that solid lacks the authentic feelings, but maybe that's just me.

French ships would have either a brown or black side with white strips for the guns. LEGO bricks impose some restrictions on the construction of completely accurater ships, though.

The basic shape of this design does take the cake in terms of the best potential for improment. I though the angle of the bowsprite was to high, but that's easily remedied. I think that this vessel is to be emulated in regards to mulltideck design and stern construction.

More to the point, I want the plans for it. Or at least for the bow and the stern sections.

Here you go.

Thanks! It does look pretty good.

I would also recommend the addition of a quarterdeck to make the drop between the poop and maindecks more aesectically appealing and also more in keeping with tradition.

Definitely, the absence of a defined poop on l

I chose the unstaggered spacing simply to squeeze the maximum number of guns in. I would have had to sacrifice one gun from the broadside to accomodate proper staggering in the space I had.

I figured that the parts were an issue, that's why my two deck ship of the line has only 20 guns and the same colour scheme of the black seas barracuda (from which it was modified).

NO PLANS, boo, hiss, aw well. Can you make some higher resolution close ups of the bow and stern and one close up of your sides.

BTW What are your other vessels?

For a proper ship rig, I'd go no less than tops'ls, t'gallants and royals along with courses on the main and fore (and I would never have an arm below the courses! ;-) ).

So would I, but the constraints of LEGOs require me to place a spar beneath my courses. (I like to have solid built sails. My ships are somewhat laking in authenticity regarding the actual rigging, but I have the right sails.)

You will note that in the picture, I drew a lateen mizzen course, this is because it is in the patten of Battleships of the late 1600s early 1700s. Napoleonic vessels would have a more rectangular sail (the proper name escapes me at this moment).

Here's a list of most of what I've built to date (with pics). Some of the older ones really show their age, these days.

Higher resolution pics of l'Administrateur Rouge still to come...

Monsieur Legeaux, I was wondering wether you are going to lengthen the ship or not, so could you please tell me? :capn:

I wasn't going to originally, but I've been toying with lengthening it for a while. I think I've finally decided not to, as I'm not sure I have enough tall red slopes to do it justice.

Instead, I'm thinking of rebuilding the old Reprendr

Legeaux, I don't know if you lurk the pirate boards much, but I never gave my compliments to your supremely built ship. I like the back of the ship a lot (the detailing and overall flow) even if the size is supposedly unrealistic. I'm also fond of the flow of the whole ship and how you've managed to keep the sides from being too straight (or how you've managed to retain a "curve" like feel to the sides if that makes any more sense). The "chasers" are a nice touch and I like the SNOT lattice windows, quite a bit.

Cheers!
