just2good Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Who thinks TMNT theme will do well in retirement What do you mean by "retirement"? Do you mean after it's over with? I guess the older sets might raise high in price eventually. TMNT will always be popular some way or another. Quote
KazeMonsuta Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 That is what happened to me, now I also have Shredders bike and Fishface set. We'll it escalated a bit more with me. I also started with the Lab Escape, now I got Shredder's Bike and the Stealth Shell and the Shellraiser are on their way. 2 sets to go, when I was never really hyped for the theme. I think nostalgia hit me bad. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 (edited) Who thinks TMNT theme will do well in retirement Oh boy, just cause there isn't a summer wave means the theme is over. Patience, friends. Lets not turn into the LMB's, where they already have RIP TMNT threads. (I really hope more LEGO TMNT stuff is shown at SDCC. They are revealing the toys for the new film so lets hope we get stuff from that!) Edited July 7, 2013 by Tolkien Quote

The first wave seems to have sold better than Chima ratio-wise from what I have scene. I definitely think we'll see sets next Summer for the new film, but not in the winter wave. Hold in tight. Quote
Phantomscream Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) So far I own the three smallest sets, while I love them, I feel the builds aren't satisfactory considering the pricepoint. That being said..the minifigures are so freaking awesome, kudos to Lego! In terms of TMNT continuing, I'm sure I heard it somewhere that it was a multi-year license, so we'll probably get sets from Bay's Ninja Turtles film along with potential classics ones. Bricknblue Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I think this was a one off theme just to fill in for January. I don't think LEGO got the TMNT license, I think it's part of the license with Nick Toons that gives us Spongebob sets too. I see it going that way, a main release than a few random sets for a couple more years. I'm hoping for some good sales, I bought the small set for $8-9 and I love the turtle! But the designs are lacking. However I'm using the big brain guy ship in an Alien Conquest MOC I have playing in my head. Quote

I see it going that way, a main release than a few random sets for a couple more years. There are a few things that I don't understand here: 1. Yes, Lego obviously did receive the license to produce TMNT. Viacom now owns the TMNT franchise in its entirety, so whether TLG got the license from 'Nick Toons' doesn't really matter anyway. 2. If it is a one-off theme, as you say, then there won't be random sets released here and there. That's not what a one-off theme is. Quote
Bricknblue Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 I meant if it does get more sets than it will be a random 1-2 here or there for the next few years, like Spongebob, but I doubt that. And Marvel owns Spiderman, yet Sony owns the movie rights. No one here knows the legal issues over TMNT unless you are a lawyer for Nick and TMNT neither do you. Quote
just2good Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 TMNT LEGO statue at SDCC! I'm so hoping this means stuff based on the new movie, not just to promote the already-out sets. I'm sure they'll mention something about it at TLG's TMNT section at SDCC, or in the booth for the new movie- like they did with Man of Steel. Quote
BrickG Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 This gives me hope! They're not stopping or slowing down in promoting TMNT Lego. Come on wave 2! Quote
Bricknblue Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I've been to LEGO Kids Fest and they had an Indian Jones when the theme was already on it's way out. The stature doesn't mean anything. They just show off things to setll more sets. Come on wave 2, maybe have a decent set this time. Quote
Oky Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 TMNT LEGO statue at SDCC! I'm so hoping this means stuff based on the new movie, not just to promote the already-out sets. I'm sure they'll mention something about it at TLG's TMNT section at SDCC, or in the booth for the new movie- like they did with Man of Steel. From the article: Paramount is in mid-production on a new, big-budget version of the 1980s indie comic-turned-toy sensation, and you can bet your nunchucks there will be a big toy push. Lego is part of that action (...). So that means if we get more TMNT sets, they will be based on the Michael Bay movie? Ugh. Let's just hope Lego makes the best of it. Quote

Hey, I'm hoping for that Oky! As much as I despise MB movies (I literally like none of his movies), I just want more turtle stuff! Quote
Kez Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Im sorry if this has already been said but there seems to be a competition to win a shadow Leonardo figure http://www.brickheroes.com/2013/07/shadow-leonardo-is-back/ Quote
Clone OPatra Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Even though future sets will (most likely) be based on the movie, and even if the movie is usual overblown Bay crap, that's no cause to think that the sets will be bad. We'd definitely be in for some cool minifigures, and potentially more differently-styled Turtle/villain vehicles that could be better than the current ones. The best thing about the current wave is, by far, the minifigures. The sets really aren't so appealing as sets (parts packs might be a different story). The Turtles especially are stars, and LEGO will likely re-use the excellent head mould even if the figures have a different printing style. More turtles, maybe even in a different shade of green (if they look darker in the movie), will be cool no matter what. Quote
Darth Lurtz Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Keep in mind, Michael Bay is only producing it. Quote
Zzz Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I was pretty sure the license was only for the Nickelodeon show but I might be wrong. Looking forward for new stuff, especially a Casey Jones minifig! Quote
BrickG Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I had a wonderful dream last night full of hope and beauty. Lego released a set based on the original cartoon. It had Beebop and Rocksteady action figures. Kraang was there too. Original Shredder. It was wonderful. Then I woke up. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 So new movie-based sets? Cool. Turtle Van is definitely going to be a set now that it's in the movie. BTW, for a look at what the sets could look like: Turtle Van: http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/take-a-look-at-the-turtle-van-and-new-set-pictures-from-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles Set pictures, a look at the Foot, April.....: http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=43348 (I'm RaphaeltheAwesome13 on there btw) Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Well... that Turtle Van is pretty cool. Hopefully, if this license is to continue for the new movie, we see that as a set. It's not necessarily what I had anticipated it to look like (though I don't really know what I anticipated it to look like), but it is very cool nevertheless and will surely translate well into a LEGO set. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I'm game for more turtles. Granted it is odd since they just can't out with the sets and I don't know how different they could make the turtles to make me want to buy the sets and get repeat turtles again. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 (edited) So everyone, in the Season One finale (Thurs. at 8) there are rumors going around..... they're introducing the TECHNODROME! So, maybe a set? Edited August 5, 2013 by Tolkien Quote
The Jersey Brick Guy Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Does anyone know when they plan to retire these? I have been on the fence about them (as I have been buying all the old Super Hero sets) and would want to start sooner rather than later obviously. Quote

In the US, they have already been on clearance at some Targets. I'm guessing retirement will come January 2013 2014, when the rest of the Targets and Walmarts have them on clearance.
