xenologer Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 This wasn't set up by Lego, though they may have donated the sets to the event. Yep, found him on classic-space, those are prototypes they were allowed to play with. And they are GLUED Quote
Starwars4J Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 here's a prelimanary review of the theme Ugh...from that review the aliens disappoint me to no end. Just another reason not to buy non-human sets. Thanks for the link, sne Quote

Thanks for the link, sne well it seems that he still has to make the actual reviews. i may just buy the sets to have a complete space collection though Quote
Asuka Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 here's a prelimanary review of the theme Thanks. So.... no arm moving for those greenies, only hip swinging? 8-| Well, at least a retractable secondarily jaw would be nice.... Quote
sam89 Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 You can see pics here: http://www.newbrickorder.com/dan/?m=review Quote
Brainbox Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 And they are GLUED :'-( I thought the trans orange looked a bit darker. Apparantly, it's a new tone. It's good to hear that the drill has independant suspension for each wheel. And now we know it's a TRU exclusive. The dropship sounds nice too. The only downpoint? The aliens. Not bad, but not as good as they could be. Quote
xenologer Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Well, they're supposedly prototypes.... so things might change still... The aliens look ominously 'armless' though, well, unposable arms. I'm starting to think that this may be Intentional, notice how they have the orange 'containment' cylinders that the alien's fit into. If they had movable arms it could potentially get in the way. So I'm guessing that they aren't treating the aliens as actual minifigs; at least not on the level that skeletons or EFdrones are, these guys are meant to be 'bio-fuel' for the human's vehicles.... :-X just big glorified crystals Quote
Brainbox Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Well, they're supposedly prototypes.... so things might change still... Probably not much though (if at all), seeing as how close we're getting to the release date. Bio-fuel? Isn't that a bit, you know, cruel? Quote
xenologer Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Bio-fuel? Isn't that a bit, you know, cruel? Indeed. But it's pretty obvious thats what they are. Notice how every major vehicle has one of those cylinders attached, usually with large 'power conduits' and located near the engines. Plus the cylinders have a 'radioactive' symbol in some pics... which seems like it'd relate to the 'engine core' concept... I'm not surprised at all by this, it follows the trend set by ExoForce, of humans being unquestionably the 'good guys' despite backstory, and that since the aliens are absolute evil 'bad guys' they can do whatever they want to them... I don't care about dumb storylines... I can interpret my own; but when it starts to mess with the parts selection - junk alien figs, nerfguns, .... >:-( Quote

I presumed they were some sort of prison-sled-thing, but I see what you mean now. Who says humans are the good guys (look outside ;-) ). For one thing, the aliens were presumably there first. Quote
snefroe Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 hm... using an alien lifeform as fuel is not only cruel, it's so highly questionable in terms of morality that i can't see Lego supporting this idea. Maybe it's bio fuel in a young boy's mind, but i'm guessing here that these spheres are prisons. Quote
xenologer Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 in a young boy's mind Funny how some things stay the same, regardless of the new colors and bricks. I remember 'space scanners' being used as 'death rays', explorien 'telescopes' as 'laser cannons'... :-D There's always an 'official story' but it seems like they always intend for them to be re-interpreted a certain way... Anyhow if we assume that they are prisons... Then this series seems like a reverse-alien-abduction scenario. lols *sweet* We'll need some martian house sets; with aliens sleeping in beds so they can be tractor beamed thru the window and abduted by earthlings... Quote
Asuka Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 We'll need some martian house sets; with aliens sleeping in beds so they can be tractor beamed thru the window and abduted by earthlings... A very nice idea. And maybe we Quote
Brainbox Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Maybe it's bio fuel in a young boy's mind, but i'm guessing here that these spheres are prisons. Prisons aren't much better really. Unless of course the martians have been very, very bad. Quote
snefroe Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Prisons aren't much better really. Unless of course the martians have been very, very bad. hm... i think it's allowed to have an alien vs minifig conflict, in that context, taking some one as a prisoner wouldn't be a problem, as in the castle theme... "hunting" innocent aliens to use them as bio fuel is a different thing Quote
xenologer Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Well, whichever way it turns out to be. I think the conflict based concept sucks; and it sounds like they're setting things up for 'good' humans vs 'evil' aliens. Where the alien side is going to be overly simplistic and undeveloped -as indicated by the terrible minifigs designed purely for being 'captured' in those orange pods. ExoForce at least had different colors for various robots(and arms that work), so you could imagine they have *some* sort of characterization... if only for their rank/military purpose... Quote
Kahgarak Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Man,i'm loving the dropship...Also,the Mothership is awesome, although it's too small to be a mothership. It's more like a gunship. Quote
mutex Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Hello all two (stupid) questions : - When will the Life on Mars theme will be released here in Europe (In Belgium more precisely)? - Have we the official prices in Euro yet ? thanks :-) Quote

snefroe Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 I'd like to know that too! :-) Thanks in advance. i think they were supposed to be launched in August. I think the Paris Lego shop may just be an exception. if they can buy sets that are on a list, and that list includes Mars Mission, they'd be stupid not to order it... Quote
snefroe Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 So can the Jelly alien grow in dark? maybe you should ask that to yoda in one of the review topics Quote
