mobi Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I can see a trend here. In earlier days Lego released lots of good sets and then lots of not so good sets. But now Lego is releasing even better sets. Now there will be less repent if someone misses any good set because Lego is likely to bring an even better set later. Let's see if new service truck and crane truck surpass their previous versions Quote

Let's see if new service truck and crane truck surpass their previous versions I couldn't agree more and let's hope they continue the trend! I'm just hoping for pneumatics on the service truck and something special about the crane. I'm not sure the crane will sell very well as its been done already with 8421, I'm surprised lego went down this road again to be honest. Quote
AVCampos Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 The 8421 came out 8 years ago. LEGO Technic has evolved a lot since then, and also there's is a whole lot of builders who didn't have access to it at the time. IMO a flagship crane truck for 2013 is completely reasonable. Quote

So this is the reason - now 8421 price is sick. Quote
Technic Gearhead Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 You can still get the majority if not all of the parts to make your own 8421 and most of them are common and inexpensive. All of the people saying they 'missed out' aren't paying attention. I know the motors are getting expensive but I made a modernized version with PF parts that I'm pretty happy with. Quote

Don't get me wrong and I will buy it like I did every other flagship , I just hope it's something special that's all, and that's got to be way more than a new style of outriggers like everything seems to care about!!! I'm just surprised they brought out a "mark ll" mobile crane when it's been done and it's not all that long ago, As the other poster said about the price, yes 8421 is expensive I payed €300 for a misb 8421 only 12 months ago but it was worth it. Matt The Tuba Guy Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 8421 was my first flagship, and I absolutely loved it, so I am looking forward to 42009 to see how it compares. unfortunately, I will probably have to wait until after Christmas to get it due to me returning to uni this year and no longer having money to spend on the other hand, once I graduate, I should be able to get a better paying job Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I missed out on 8421, so I'm thrilled that LEGO would release a proper successor to the model. If the stabilizers are powered by an axle going through the turntable and gearbox in the superstructure (as speculated), then my guess is that the boom slew would be operated by a crank on the rear of the chassis via a worm gear turning the turntable. Of course, that's assuming the gearbox is in the superstructure with an axle going through the turntable, which may not be the case. Quote
andythenorth Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Off-topic, my 8421 is disassembled, the motor is lying in a box somewhere. Quote
