Bubble Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Excellent pictures! Well, when i finish building the 8110 in a couple hours I'll go order those sets Quote
rocklego Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Tow miniLAs are used on the spreader of container handler for extending and retracting function. Quote
MrNumbskull13 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 the containerhandler looks gorgeous I hope you are being sarcastic Eff... Quote
legomuppet9 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 It seems they've concentrated on function rather than aesthetics in the B Model's... Quote
merman Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I hardly ever feel the urge to make B models. The tow truck's B model uses a very ugly way to turn the boom. With a simple bush Thank God 42009 has a 32L axle and they turned the 16L axle black in stead of white! Quote
therealjustin Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I think a semi truck would have been better. It would have been a great fit since the set has ten wheels. Quote
Matt The Tuba Guy Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 so 42009 will have 4x 16 long black axle, and a 32 long? nice! The B model is also pretty good, certainly a lot better than the 8421 B model (which was just another attachment like 8110 and 9398) When I eventually get it (or maybe two of them), I think my first mod will be to rearrange the boom so that the pivot is right at the back. I will lengthen the other sections, and probably add two more LA's to retain full boom manoeuvrability. I will probably try to make the stabilisers extend further as well. 42008 seems to be all the functions of 8285 minus the engine (I assume) compressed into a much smaller model. It will go great with my 8063. I kind of wish 42008 came with new style black panels though. Quote
N-4K0 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Looks good, I'm tempted... Btw, anyone noticed the "license plate" on the working arm of the Recovery Truck, saying SU 54NN3 ? I wonder if it's the name of the person at TLG who designed the model, or something like that. Quote
Erik Leppen Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 At least all models look technically interesting. Still not fond of the idea that an alternative model consists of two vehicles. I would much rather have seen one large vehicle, simply because now was the one-of-a-time chance to go all out. But at least the container handler is something new and it looks quite decent, function-wise. Although it makes me wonder, if there are LA's to control the container grabber, why are there gear racks? Are they just used as sliders (with pins 1/2 behind them? Probably.). Also it's too bad that rotation control is on the container grabber itself, rather than on the boom. Would have been quite a challenge. Also the container is an uninteresting build even though it contains 8 of the quite rare 3 x 3 L connectors with 4 pins. Also I like how both sets use mini LAs and large LAs. Anyone noticed the green trailer has a stand and highly likely a tilting bed? Not sure I'll be getting any of the Technic sets, even though both 42008 and 42009 look amazing, I still have to convince the wallet. And if I were to get one of those two sets, I'm still not sure which one - I'm a mobile crane guy, but the tow truck is cheaper and has more interesting parts I think (the color :D). But it's too bad it has only one pneumatic function. By the way, why does the mobile crane bottom-view picture have a gear at the very left end of the axle? Quote
D3K Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 It may seem like the green trailer has a side tipping function, via one small LA..? Also, I like the fact the 42009 has three, rather than one b models. But if ever there was a set ideal for a construction themed c model, the 42009 has got to be it! Probably has parts to build a pretty decent articulated hauler, or a 8 or 10 wheel dump truck, or a bigger scale recovery truck! With all those wheels, panels, LAs and probably a whole lot of gears, I would say it is a pretty good starters set for people wanting to get a good pile of parts for building wheeled (yellow) MOCs:-) Quote
Phantom59 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 42008's B model look like some thing out of Mad Max Thunder dome, it would have to be in the top 10 of the most ugly B mobels Quote
Paul Boratko Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I wonder what the deal is with the new curved panels..? The 42008 appears to still use the older black styled one..... The EV3 has the new styled black ones.. Maybe they are going to continue to produce both..? I guess sticker placement may be in issue with the ones on the 42008 if they were the newer style... Quote
merman Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 (edited) well both panels may be similar in size; they have different possibilities. The new panels have more holes in the front... Edited May 12, 2013 by merman Quote
Paul Boratko Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I know that they are different and have different uses, I originally thought that these new panels were replacing the old ones, but apparently that is not the case... Quote
Someonenamedjon Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 The b modelfor the 42009 just looks so empty... Quote
Seasider Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Oh well I don't like the look of those ... wonder what the B's look like for the smaller models Quote

imajor Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Completely offtopic, sorry about that. Why do people use brickshelf, instead of some ordinary picture sharing site, like picasa? Quote
freakwave Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 the containerhandler looks gorgeous Now make it Maersk Blue :-) Quote

legomuppet9 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I don't understand, what's the point, can't you just click on the links? Brickshelf files need to be moderated, so they weren't yet public (they are now), so only you could see them. That is why I personally do not like brickshelf and instead use Flickr... Quote
