Etzel Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 Cronk still wants to know where Helmer was during murder. Murder happened really late last night or early morning. Did Helmer know if any of the novices were close to Mandric? Is Helmer close to any? "I came here to train in the early morning, I don't know if it was before or after the murder. Novices? No I don't spend much time with those kids, the training sessions are more than enough. All their giggling and whispering and high pitched voices gives me headache." CorneliusMurdock Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 How well does Helmer know Jorke? Does Helmer know if Jorke had any problems with Mandric?
Etzel Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 "Jorke is the person I spend most time with here in the convent, he is a great friend. He didn't agree much with sir Mandric, they usually tried to avoid each other och didn't have much good to say about the other. I don't know why, I guess they just didn't get along."
Scorpiox Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 "Thank you for your help, Sir Helmer." Haldor then turned to see the others. "Shall we go and have a talk with Jorke now? It sounds like he will have a lot to share."
Etzel Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 The heroes continue to the study where they find Jorke the cleric in the middle of a lecture about healing. The four novices are all there to listen. "...as according to the third law of ether. Therefore, your healing powers can never rise above your predestined sphere of meditation, just like your fighting abilities can't expand beyond your body's limits. The only way to advance in your training is to continue to enlarge your knowledge in meditation and then fill it with new skills in healing. Now, continue reading in your books and I will come back to you later, I see we got visitors."
Masked Builder Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 "Hello Jorke, nice to see you again. I hope we're not interrupting." Alexis says sheepishly. "We just had a few questions for you. Were there any particular things that you disagreed with Mandric about?"
Etzel Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 "Hello Jorke, nice to see you again. I hope we're not interrupting." Alexis says sheepishly. "We just had a few questions for you. Were there any particular things that you disagreed with Mandric about?" "Never speak ill of the dead they say. But yes, there was some things sir Mandric and I didn't agree on. For example the centralization of the Order, with the High Counsel having more and more power over the rest of the organization. And I didn't like his excessive drinking, especially not here at he convent where it made some novices uncomfortable."
Masked Builder Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 "Yes I can't say I'm happy with what any of the novices told me about him. Do you know of anyone who would want him dead?"
Scorpiox Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 "Indeed. We found plenty of evidence leading to Sir Mandric's habits, and we can guess that he was probably heavily drunk at the time of his death. Jorke, when was the last time that you saw him alive?"
Etzel Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 "Yes I can't say I'm happy with what any of the novices told me about him. Do you know of anyone who would want him dead?" "Not surprisingly, there where several others here at the convent who didn't liked sir Mandric much, but I din't think anyone here at the convent would go as far as killing. It looks like I was wrong, though. I don't want to name him as a suspect, but Ansar, the gardener, can sometimes have some anger management issues. Maybe something to look into." "Indeed. We found plenty of evidence leading to Sir Mandric's habits, and we can guess that he was probably heavily drunk at the time of his death. Jorke, when was the last time that you saw him alive?" "I saw him last time at dinner yesterday, but then I heard him some time after midnight when he came back to his room. I was up in my office which is located right above sir Mandric's room so I could hear him through the floor, he was pretty drunk by then. I went to bed shortly after that so I never heard or saw when he left his room."
Masked Builder Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 "He did seem a bit touchy when we talked with him." Alexis looks at her quest-mates. "You guys have any more questions?"
Scorpiox Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 "Not surprisingly, there where several others here at the convent who didn't liked sir Mandric much, but I din't think anyone here at the convent would go as far as killing. It looks like I was wrong, though. I don't want to name him as a suspect, but Ansar, the gardener, can sometimes have some anger management issues. Maybe something to look into." Haldor nodded. "Yeah, we've had some experiance with Ansar's anger, amongst other things." The nord shot a loose glance toward Najdalena and the other novices. "And if Mandric was as drunk as things appear, we have no proof that this murder was anything other than a drunken brawl turned nasty. Thanks for your time, Jorke."
Masked Builder Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Alexis leads the heroes to a hallway so they can talk privately. "Well what do you guys think?"
Scorpiox Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 (edited) "Well, with the reception that we've been getting, it looks like it was either a huge conspiracy by nearly the whole bloody convent to lie about everything, or we're reading too much into this. I know it isn't a nice thought, but let's just try it for a moment. Judging by what everyone is saying, and the litter of bottles strewn about the place, Mandric was heavily drunk last night. So what if someone just saw him there, and something bad turned in a spur of the moment thing? Gods know what actually happened. Maybe a fight broke out, maybe Mandric's stupour was enough for him to start something that would end him, I don't know. Then our killer flees to cover his tracks, worried that he'll be blamed for something that maybe wasn't even his fault, and then wham, some time later, a nord comes along and finds the corpse." Haldor sighed, he wasn't used to situations like this. All the past times, he'd been able to discover the truth in the end. Maybe that upstart Arthur was right, maybe he should start concentrating instead of wallowing in his own thoughts aimlessly... "What do you both make of this?" Edited December 2, 2012 by Scorpiox
Masked Builder Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 "I'm with you Haldor, it seems no one liked him. Any thoughts on that note? I do wonder what is involved in the girls "games." Alexis pulls out the letter. Dear Small Socks, Good job on the latest mision, miss yellouw looked verry stupid when she couldn't put her shoes on!!! You can collekt you're reward behind the tomb is the santuary. Your nekst mission is two scare the old hag's brother. Do it in the nigth when its dark. If you do it you get a nice necklace. Over and out, Queen Sunshine "Looking over this again, I really think it was Jossin. But maybe accidentally."
CorneliusMurdock Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Cronk does not know. If it was accident or self-defense, Cronk thinks a novice might be a suspect but Cronk does not think novices would seek to kill Mandric. If killing was not accident, Ansar seems like another likely suspect. But friends, Cronk has feeling party has missed something. It seems like strange coincidence that friends deliver important message that Priestess is upset about and same night Priestess' brother is killed. As much as Priestess was insistent that friends not know what message said, Cronk thinks that party cannot know full truth until content of letter is known. The question is then, should friends press Priestess to reveal content or try to read letter without Priestess' knowledge? Cronk is uncomfortable sneaking around and would prefer to get permission from Priestess but Cronk is willing to hear what friends think.
Etzel Posted December 3, 2012 Author Posted December 3, 2012 Recap: So the heroes decided to go and ask priestess Mandrea once again if they could read the letter and Alexis put their wish forward in a way that made Mandrea say: "If you really think the letter will help you in your investigation I guess you can read it, it's on the desk in my office. But remember that the letter is written by persons with certain opinions and you can't trust everything they say. I really hope you present a suspect for the murder soon. Mandric's battalion will soon be here and when they find out about the murder they will be very upset, they were very loyal to him. In we don't have a suspect to present by then I'm afraid they will start their own investigation and that won't be pretty. Good news is that Jorke the cleric has a special pill that will help us in the investigation. It's a verita serum that will force whoever eats it to only speak the truth. When you have a main suspect we can force him or her to swallow the pill and then start our questioning."
Masked Builder Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 "Thank you very much Mandrea, we'll keep that in mind." Alexis leads the party to Mandrea's room and reads the letter.
Etzel Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 The heroes returns to the priestess office and reads the letter: To all officers, priests and commanders in the Paladin Order The High Counsel has come to the conclusion that the former paladin and commander of the 2nd battalion of Light and Justice, sir Mandric Melifano, has acted in ways not compatible with the Righteous Light will be put at trial for crimes against the Paladin Order. Until a verdict is reached sir Mandric Melifano is banned from the Order and anyone in the Order is forbidden to collaborate in any way with him. Any contact with the suspect needs to be reported to the High Counsel. Sincerely, High Counsel of the Paladin Order, Temple of Ennoc in Eubric
CorneliusMurdock Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Well that changes things. Friends need to know what Mandric did to warrant such harsh action. Then friends may know which residents here might hold grudge against Mandric. Party should also ask priestess who else has read letter or might have geussed letter's contents. Should friends also ask to read Priestess' reply? Might give insight on how priestess would deal with own bother.
Masked Builder Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 "Makes sense to me Cronk. Let's do it." Alexis takes the heroes back to Mandrea. "Thank you for letting us read that, we'd also like to know what Mandric did to warrant that action. Is there anyone who could have read it or guessed its contents? And can we read your reply too?"
Etzel Posted December 5, 2012 Author Posted December 5, 2012 *Sigh* "This is exactly why I didn't want you to read the letter, you just rush away and think it's important to the investigation without thinking critically. No one has read the letter but me, and now you, and the content of it was unknown to everyone in the convent. What Mandric did to earn himself a banishment from the Order I do not know for sure, but he did have some powerful enemies in the High Counsel. Some of they probably used a small slip-up by my brother and blew it up beyond proportions to make the rest of the Counsel follow their lead and ban him. All this would of course had come forward during the trial, it was only serving as a hold-up and distraction for Mandric and to give him a bad name inside the Order. I told this to the High Counsel myself in the letter I wanted you to deliver. You can read it if you like but it's just the same as I've said here."
Scorpiox Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 "Well, it's always possible that Mandric might have upset some bad people, and that this letter was written with intentions to prevent him from doing anything that might unsettle the bad people's position. But what if the court martial wasn't enough, what if someone else came here to make sure that he couldn't make more trouble for them? Priestess, is there any way that someone unsavoury could have got access to the Convent recently? Have you had any visitors? Or could someone have broken into the compound? I know that all of this seems like a wild fantasy, but we should consider all of our options before making judgements."
Etzel Posted December 5, 2012 Author Posted December 5, 2012 "No, no one had visited us for weeks until both Mandric and you guys came yesterday. I'm sure the murderer is amongst the people currently present in the convent."
