Galen stands rigid, a dense fog cloduing his mind. Sylph's druidic magic manages to clear his mind, all notions of serving Eidolon vanishing. In disgust he rejoins the party, ready to deal some damage to the massive Progg before them. With status ailments flowing through the veins of Eidolon's every limb, the forces, man and Progg, clash once more. Eidolon nearly gets in a few good hits, throwing out devestating haymakers, but the party's death-defying luck saves them from the Emperor's wrath. His body beginning to enter a state of disrepair, Eidolon shouts down some orders to the mages below. The sepllcasting Proggs, their ether spent after their enthralling mist, frantically chug tonics and glance over spellbooks. A synchronized sound of pages turning can be heard faintly over the monstrous storm, the mages getting ready to mend their master... Eidolon mocks the party, still confident he would best them. And at this rate... "Ohh, poor Galen. Soaked, bruised, battered, and had his mind hijacked. I wonder how being so utterly helpless feels... Then again, I doubt fear is a foreign emotion to among your species of weak-hearted insects. And I suppose like all insects, your only purpose in life is to be crushed!" "Give in!" Fugazi Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Galen pauses to breathe after dealing more crippling hits to Eidolon's limbs. The Emperor launches in a new mocking tirade, unfazed by the damage he was taking. But Galen "Ohh, poor Galen. Soaked, bruised, battered, and had his mind hijacked. I wonder how being so utterly helpless feels... Then again, I doubt fear is a foreign emotion to among your species of weak-hearted insects. And I suppose like all insects, your only purpose in life is to be crushed!" "Helpless? Were I alone facing you, I would probably feel helpless. But as it is, there's always someone to heal, remedy or revive me. I'm not alone, and while one of us is alive there's always hope. Heroica knows what they're doing, sending groups instead of solitary heroes. Yes I'm afraid, but I'm not panicking. There's a huge difference. Fear is also a great stimulant. What about you Eidolon, do you know fear?" "Alright everyone, it's now or never on Gauntlet R." "Right, let's take this Gauntlet down before the mages have a chance to heal it. Endgame Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 OoC: Looks like you forgot about my hard-earned gold, Endgame! QM Note: And you still want me to drop the imbuing price?! Eidolon speaks bitterly to Galen. "Of course I have experienced fear. What do you think the early years of my life were? Even though I was royally, most of the time it meant naught - the prince of slaves is still a slave. If anything, my position and the Progg's situation mostly just damned me to a more difficult life those 1,000 or so years ago. Though I was but a child, the responsibility of my people's welfare still fell on my shoulders... and it was absolutely crushing. Proggs were dying every day, either at their slavemaster's hands or their own. And who do you think some of this fell on? It was a burden that plagued the royal line until the day we finally wiped those wretched tyrants out. Fear has made me the Emperor I am today... but unlike you humans, I took my fear and bettered myself from it. I went from the receiver of fear to the one who spreads it. All your species can do is stalemate when afraid, collapse under pressure and hope it all goes away. Ha! Cling on to your petty hope all you like, heroes - but know that I will take great pleasure in beating it out of you!" All parts of Eidolon's body are healed for 120 HP! With Galen now standing at their side, the party launches into another assault on Eidolon. This time they focus on his Gauntlets, made fragile and clammy by Sylph's scrolls. Galen, resolute after his previous brainwashing, chucks his wrench at Eidolon's right hand. The Gauntlet already had cracks running up and down it, but Galen's projectile proves too much for the already damaged claw. The Gauntlet fizzles with electricity as pieces of it crumble off from the wrench's impact, until it finally explodes off of Eidolon's hand in a burst of electricity. What was now exposed was far from a pleasant sight: it seems the Gauntlet was not mere armor, it was welded directly into the Emperor's hand. The arm-cannon's explosion had taken off a fair portion of the shell with it, the loose plates of shell and armor being thrown away by the winds of the massive storm. Underneath where the Gauntlet once was was black pulsating flesh, crackling with a few jolts of red static. A crack opens up all odwn Eidolon's forearm, revealing more of the fleshy interior underneath the shell. Eidolon's mocking tirades become foul vitriol, the Emperor pulling his arm back to prevent further damage to it. The Progg spellspinners below finally muster up the resources to heal their emperor, but unfortunately is was too late for Eidolon's right hand to be repaired. The child gives a little twirl, apparently oblivious to the state of the mansion around her or the reggedness of the magician in front of her. Things were not adding up in Dini's head. Roni's appearance was unexpected to say the least - not to mention nigh impossible! Even with The Suffering dead, Proggs still milled about the manor. Even without leadership, they would still be competent fighters; how did this young girl get through? She must've walked through a complete genocide... Howard spoke gently, not knowing what Roni had seen on her way to this room. "A very pretty dress for a pretty young woman, Roni! My name is Howard Dini, and although it is in a bit of a bad condition right now, I am the owner of this manor." Howard still speaks gently, but a hint of grimness leaks into his voice. How had the child gotten in here, of all places? It was a literal fortress.... "Are you okay, Roni? I have no idea how you got here... Could you tell this old wizard how? You... you didn't see anything, did you?" Roni shakes her head. She spots a fragment of a banner caught upon a bejeweled chandelier high above, and jumps futilely towards it. Confused, Dini glances around for the girl's point of entry--and when he looks back, she is gone! With the young girl vanishing as quickly as she had entered, Dini rubs his temples and mutters to himself. Today was not a good day for the sorcerer. "Okay... so maybe "hunger hallucination" shouldn't have been ruled out..." By chance, the magician looks up, and to his great surprise, the little girl sits atop the chandelier, fiddling with her ribbon. She waves to Dini. "Hiii!" A lightbulb goes off in Howard's head, and he smiles. For the first time that day, his bad mood melts way and he lets out a laugh from the bottom of his being. The young girl reminded him of Natasha, when she was in her early years. He speaks to the child warmly: "Ha! Quite the young little magic user, aren't you Roni? You know, you remind me a whole lot of my niece when she was in her early years...Do you need any help coming down, my dear?" Roni is too busy swinging from the chandelier to pay much attention to the magician. Suddenly, though, a glittering jewel, tied to a scrap of ribbon, slips from the child's grasp. "My necklace!" To Dini's horror, Roni leaps from the chandelier to grab her trinket in midair. The shock makes time seem to stand still, as the girl reaches out toward a banner impossibly far away...and yet, at the last moment, the fabric moves of its own accord, placing itself securely within her grasp. Roni swings down to a safer height, but the battle-tattered cloth cannot hold her weight, and she hits the floor with a thud--unhurt, but still traumatized. The necklace lies abandoned at her feet, and she looks to Dini on the verge of tears... Dini gets down on his knees, scooping up the dropped necklace in one hand and stroking the hair of the saddened Roni. The child was still a complete enigma to the magician, but Howard treated her just like he would treat his niece, when she was Roni's age. Though he didn't want to entertain the notion, the sorcerer felt that the young girl had a very hard life at home... "Shh, shh. It's going to be okay Roni, it's going to be okay." Dini consoles the sniffling Roni for some time. He didn't need to say much - it wasn't necessary. Sometimes, all you need is someone to be near, someone who'll listen to whatever troubles you... and Howard was happy to be that person. After a few minutes Dini places the young girl's necklace back around her neck, and they both stands up. Roni's face had lit back up again, having gotten all of her sorrows out. "You know, my dear? You really do have the makings of a great mage. Some people never reach the level you have already gotten to in their lifetime. Although your stunt was a tad dangerous, it was mighty impressive! Whether it didn't quite work out or not is irrelavant. You're still young Roni, and you have a long way to go. I've got some experience dabbling with magic myself, you know. What do you say Mr. Dini teaches you a couple of spells?" For one of the first times in his life, Howard Dini was being modest. Roni wipes the tears from her face, and nods. "...OK, Uncle Dini." "Okay. I want you to focus on that banner over there..." Quote
