Endgame Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 QM Note: May have to leave soon, so I'll update the party later tonight. For now, the meat of this update! "What... What were you trying to do up there, foolish mage?" Roni seems to hide behind "Uncle Dini's" leg at Galen's aggression. "Unca Dini taught me a really cool trick - I dinnit know that it would make Eye-doh-lan so angry!" "To be fair, having his wings fried off by a 3-year old probably did nothing to help his anger... or his ego." Sounds a distant voice. The party looks around for the source - they all hear it as clear as day, as if the speaker is right beside them... but he isn't present. While frantically looking around for the source, Galen sees a disturbing sight out of the corner of his eyes... The Regret stands in the courtyard serenly. Distorted black hands surround him, clawing their way out of the ground below. The party locks eyes with him one by one, each taking a step back at the arcane Progg's appearance. When all heroes notice him, the hands recede back into the world... and The Regret snaps his fingers. In a flash of black light the Progg vanishes, manifesting right behind Eidolon's corpse. He raises one claw into the sky, the arm bathed in purple light. From his shoulder black, serpentine tendrils emerge, slithering up his arm in synchronization. They meet right in front of his claws, forming a sharp point. The tendrils begin spinning into a blur, forming a drill of darkness. The Regret chuckles as he plunges the newly-formed weapon into Eidolon, drilling through. A red mist emerge out, getting absorbed into the drill and carried up the tendrils - right back into The Regret. It was clear it wasn't a conventional means of drilling... He hums a soft tune as he continues drilling. "What.. what are you doing...?!" "I imbued Eidolon with his ether... and now that he is passed, I am taking it back. Now need to waste perfectly good ether, hm?" Reaping Eidolon's corpse of all of its magic, the Regret pulls his arm out of the deceased Emperor. His arm vibrates, a cloud of purple energy engulfing it... In effortlessly, he lets loose a colossal beam of darkness, aimed at the courtyard's walls. The projectile tears through the courtyard, hitting the surrounding all and simply plowing right through it. A trail of purple fire lies in the blast's wake, a gaping hole ripped in the manor. The party takes a step back... they knew the Progg sorcerer had a great command over the arcane, but the power he wielded so effortlessly seemed unfathomable. The Regret chuckles over the party's bewilderment, blobs of ether still lingering on his arm. "Ahh... much better." Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 (edited) "Ahh... much better." "Ah, the king of the dead." Spoke Sylph, staring at the Progg. "We meet again... So was that your play? Have us kill the brothers and gain rule over them and their power upon our success?" suggested Sylph, stroking his goatee. "Why else not kill us in the forest when you had the chance?" Endgame Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 (edited) "Naive fools. Do you think all of this was my bid for power? Anything but, in fact. The reason why I let you keep your lives in the forest was so that the power could stay within the three princes. Make no mistake, heroes - I was plenty powerful to snuff out your lives right there, and end this ordeal in an instant. However, if the masses knew that I murdered you instead, it would undermine the princes' power over the population. I raised Rhodus, Aquos, and Eidolon since they were 200. True, they were practically adults by then... but I was the whisper in their ear, a passive force that helped them steer their lives and their career. I had no desire to kill or usurp them, despite being of greater power. I have always been a being who pulled strings from the shadows - why willingly change that? Thus, I let you live; simply for the sake of those three. But, unbeknownst to the three princes, I had employed a gambit of my own. Should they all fall in combat, I'd take back the ether they had imbued themselves with and become more powerful then ever. At any rate, they knew the line between life and death was thin when I'm present - I have even received their consent on this entire ether-reaping business. My motives were not power or dominion -they never were, and never will be. However, do not think of me as slave to the three princes, heroes. Rhodus, Aquos, Eidolon - they have all failed me. If I do manage to drag them back into the corporeal realm, I'm afraid those three won't hold as much authority as they did prior." Edited March 22, 2013 by Endgame Quote

My only mistake was assuming that we had bested your true play, and that the ether-harvest was simply a contingency plan. Well played Regret. True to your name, I'm sure that those around you will regret investing so much in you." He stated, bluntly. "But you live. And maybe your overpowered pawns will see the light of day again. However, my name has a bit more history behind it then that, I fear... Care to guess my age, druid?" The Regret's pink eyes grow brighter then ever when uttering that question. A film of multicolored noise seems to hover over his eyes, distorting them. The Progg sorcerer turns his attention to Galen, his piercing eyes seemingly staring into the rogue's soul. "Now, my turbanned Rogue. From what I understand, you wish to utilize my power. What folly you humans conceive! Galen felt small in front of the grey Progg, but not in any immediate danger. The Regret was not a mad creature like the Emperor. Probably haughty and full of himself like all the others, but not mad. "You... you don't make sense. I though that you were Prometheus. Did you commit suicide? Is your past life what you regret? And you mentioned a price. I doubt that you would need money, so what would it take for you to help me answer the only question that matters to me? Is saving your people from the madness of their leaders not good enough for you?" Quote

Is saving your people from the madness of their leaders not good enough for you?" The Regret shuffles a bit closer to Galen, chuckling under his breath. His eyes narrow into slits as he looks Galen, as if sizing the Rogue up... "Hah. You demand answers now, and yet you know that you will not receive any. All loose ends will be tied up soon enough, heroes. I'm veeerrry curious to see how much your sister truly matters to you, Rogue. My powers are not a resource to be exploited, nor are hey just to be bought away with gold. No, I'm afraid you're going to have to pay up with something far dearer then that... I'm interested to see where this will be going, Galen. Maybe we will cut a deal, and you will learn about your oh-so-beloved sister. Or perhaps I will simply slaughter you, and you too will die in the massacre that I will bring to your party. I have said it once, and I shall say it again... Only time can tell." The Regret sneers and continues, a faint Halo of light surrounds his body, laying low on the ground. It is slowly expanding, growing brighter and brighter... "I shall meet you at the Town Hall. There, you shall get the answers you seek... and the death you creatures deserve. Til' then!" With a mocking wave of goodbye, the halo collapses inward. The Regret dissapears in a distorted blur, his exit blasting a dark whirlwind outward. The party is thrown off their feet and on to their rump. They dust themselves off as they stagger up, getting ready for the impending clash with the enigmatic creature. Everything he said contradicted with something else... and only he could untwist this tangled knot and bring clarity to this bloodstained night. Dini looks up at them, resolute. However, looking deeper into the mage's eyes, even the egotistical spellslinger was feeling fear. "I'll protect Roni, and hold down this fort - maybe weed out any remaining Proggs lingering about here. You have a far more vital battle on your hands, heroes... I have the feeling that detestable fellow has more to him then he lets on. I'll deactivate the Mystrinitri Fores spell for a few minutes - run, before you get trappe dwithin there again!" Having only time to nod at the mage's advice, the party instantly beelines out through the hole The Regret had left in the wall. The rain was now tranquil, only a few drops trickling from the sky; the storm may have been defused, but the situation certainly wasn't The Regret now had the magical power of all of the princes combined, plus his own - as well as over 1,000 years of expertise. Who knew how strong he would be? The party makes a mad dash through Mystrinitri Forest, the once boggling woods now just a straight run from the manor to the mushroom gardens. Taking a sharp right at the gardener's house, Punii grabs old of Hal's back armor and climbs to his shoulder, the little yellow creature simply unable to keep up. Rushing down a dirt road, the party finds themselves back to the center of the town.... the town hall. An air of tension seems to hang around the towering building, the massive structure almost a floor taller then Dini's belltower. Ornate pillars run up and down it, blue accents lining the top and bottom of each story. Through every door and window a wicked black smoke billows out, the cloud of darkness seemingly slowly creeping towards the heroes. Ghastly tendrils seem to spiral out of the emerging cloud, reaching out then pulling back in. The Toxiproggs stand solemnly outside, Beatrice with them. The Progg Nurse seems to warm up when Galen draws closer. "Galen hon, and heroes... you made it back! You guys really are a lot tougher then I thought when I first met you, tee hee." She giggles, but it is nervous and halfhearted. "It seems like defeating Eidolon only caused a new evil to crawl out of its disgusting den, though..." The Toxiprogg with all of his arms attached cradles his hea din his four arms. "This, this isn't good... We were all playing a nervous game of bridge in the Town Hall, waiting for you guys to come back with Eidolon's cracass... but then The regret threw the doors open - and a putrid cloud of black decided to follow him in! We grabbed as many items from the stands and dashed out, but all the others... Ayla, The Mayor, The Rihts family, Adam, Shaun... they are all still trapped in there, and we don't have a clue what the hell is going on in there! We tried to go back in, but that darkness... thingy... just sealed our way in. We'd walk in then immediately wake up back at our burrow. I... I think he is waiting for you, heroes." The other Toxiprogg, this Progg the amputated one, speaks up. You notice he purposely distance dhimself from Beatrice after their fallout... He pulls out a bulging sack and begins laying out the goods. "Here is what we retrieved.
