Jedi master Brick Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Elgar attacks the Regret from the back row "It is time for you to pay for your crimes. We will defeat you. Bravery an honour always wins in the end. Ennoc will guide us to another glorious victory." Quote

(10+10+10+8+9+11+16+9=83x2=166/2=83-9=74 damage) ...! With the crowd of Proggs gathering below them, the party launches into their final assault on the collosal beast. Punii lets loose one final blast, even the phantasmal royalty being thrown back by the explosion's magnitude. Slph gives a tonic to Aquos. Invigorated by his last dirnk on the mortal realm, the fallen Progg plays his swan song. With Aquos's triumphant song bolstering their every attack, the party all attack Perfect Regret. The beast evades, rolls, hops backwards, even teleports and tries to retaliate - but in the end it is for naught. The invasion had not treated Hal or his town well. Luosh had nearly collapsed under Progg rule, and hundreds of good men and women had perished - some under his employment. He grips his halberd, resolute... and simply raises his hand into the air. That was the only signal the party needed. In perfect synchronization the entire party draws their weapons and charge Perfect Regret, hitting the hateful beast with all of their might. He staggers backwards as he is slammed by the titanic attack, a giant crack suddenly splitting down his carapace. He rears backwards and shrieks in pain, his howl betraying thousands upon thousands of years of sorrow and hate. Dark magic erupted out of his every wound, his silver shell blasting off of its body and being thrown away in the whipping winds. His eyes glow brighter and brighter, piercing the darkness that loomed over the party during this grueling battle. A dark mist shoots out along with the dark magic, enveloping its party in its cold embrace... Under the mist, the party sees visions flash before their eyes. Wars. Schisms. Sieges. Genocides. Rebellions. Murders. Plague. So many sickening visions engulfed the party - in a horrifying way the party felt like they were there, witnessing the hundreds upon hundreds that had flashed before their eyes. In not even a full minute, the party had seen thousands upon thousands of deaths. Wars that had never been recorded in the vagaries of history - uprisings that faded into myths. Entire empires collapsing whose name had faded into nothingness - over his long and terrible life, Prometheus had seen so much death. So much sadness, so much regret, so much death, so much hatred - and the Progg had embraced them, accepting them into his heart. Prometheus had been slowly dying for centuries... and at this point, there was no trace of the kind creature. All that was left was the abomination they had just defeated. Even as his body fell to shambles, Perfect Regret haunted the hearts and minds of the heroes... In his wirhting agony Perfect Regret stumbles backwards, still belting out a spine chilling shriek. Rhodus and Eidolon's flickering forms lay on the rooftop, clutching their hearts in pain as they fade into nothingess. Aquos, too, was trying his hardest to remain tethered to the land of the living. With one last howl, Perfect Regret's eyes are sealed shut... and he allows his body to tumble over the edge of the roof, plummeting to the ground below. The party watches as the beast topples over, disinitegrating into a purple fireball of dark magic as he plummeted to the ground below. He hits the ground with a resounding explosion of magic, a purple beacon exploding outwards from where the body collided. As he hits the ground below the crowd of Proggs flee, scattering in every direction. The party covers their ears and struggle to remain on their feet as the shockwave nearly bowls them over. For those watching the starry sky that night, the beacon released by Perfect Regret's demise would be clearly visible: The beacon fades into nothingess, and the party looks down off th edge to see what remained of Perfect Regret. His body had shattered upon impact, now nothing more then a smoldering pile of slag. As they stare down at the destroyed progg below, a black shadow rips off from the burning remains and flings itself upwards. It flies erratically, its ghostly form flickering and distorted. As it reaches the top of its ascension, its silhouette illuminated by the full moon... it collapses down onto the drenched roof of the town hall. It was as The Regret had said - no matter what, his soul would persevere. Despite its body being destoryed, the essence did indeed live on... though it was clear it wasn't capable of any type of fight. The party's two brawls with the Progg had weakened him... he speaks, his voice tired and weary. His body was shattered, and his soul defeated - all that was left was to dispel the ghost from Luosh. "You... you did it, heroes. Bravo." The party looks down in disgust at the broken soul.... all that was eft was to dispatch the foul spirit, and free Luosh once and for all. QM Note: Levelled up party and loot will come later on this evening... but you won, 48ers. Excellent job on every battle I've thrown at you, and thanks so much for hanging in these past six months. I won't delcare it until Regret is dispelled, but 48 is officially succesful. Stick with me for a few more days to experience the ending, and I'll have you out of here by Tuesday-Wednesday, most likely. Quote

Dannylonglegs Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Sylph stood, stalwart and tree-like in the midst of the storm, the rain dripping from his gauntlet-ed hands like blood. It was impossible to discern his emotions from his stance, but if any had to guess, they'd say he looked like he'd seen his past... or his future... The bow slipped from his hand and onto his back. He pulled out his moon-tipped scepter... It was easier to hold in his numb hands. The dying wind still held his cloak aloft like the wings of a fallen angel. "You were a formidable opponent, Regret... But there is no place for you in this world... You are alone... As you always have been... And now I think it's time you made your exit from this world." Endgame Posted April 29, 2013 Author Posted April 29, 2013 (edited) Foreword I lead a very twisted life, I fear. A pariah from the very species I gave birth to, an outcast to everything that is real in this world, I wandered this Olegaia. A slave for quite a few centuries, I walked this planet, with hope in my heart that the disease that drove my masters to their heinous acts wasn't widespread. Foolishly I searched and searched, looking for one settlement that wasn't yet corrupted. And yet, more then a thousand years later, my search has proven fruitless. Humanity now teeters on the brink of calamity... and as The Regret, it is my duty to this planet to eradicate them. No longer will they prance about, destroying everything they touch. They robbed me and countless others of everything they had in their, and I will ensure they will get what they rightfully deserve. In this tome, I have recorded the damning follies of humanity in great detail - every noteworthy fiasco for the last two millenniums. I have described the ideal Olegaia in great length, and I have taken notes on the dark magics I will use to accomplish my goals. If your mind isn't capable of handling the truths and the hatred-borne magicks inscribed in this tome, I suggest you put it down. Edited April 29, 2013 by Endgame Quote

Not only could this tome grant great power, it could also probably delineate how to kill the Regret... Sylph flipped to the Magicks section. He already knew of Man's folly. Quote

"I'm sure I've heard almost all of it before." Stated Sylph nonchalantly to the ghost. "Sylph, please keep reading on to Humanity's Folly, then Perfect World." "Also, if you don't mind, may I keep this book in my inventory when we are done?" Sylph looked up with unvoiced irritation. He looked at Alex, tired. "Sure." He spoke pleasantly. "You may keep the book once I've finished reading it." Quote

Endgame Posted April 29, 2013 Author Posted April 29, 2013 'So this is the end. It is the time you pay for your crimes. Any last words?" "Last words? Last words? How many times must I reiterate before it pierces through yor skull? I am undying. Immortal. You may dispel me here, but I will remain a wandering soul - weakened, but not extinct. There is no end to my existence!" Sylph opens up to Humanity's Folly, and begins to browse. Alex reads intently over the druid's shoulder, but he soon wishes he had never laid eyes on this chapter - it was a detailed account of every atrocity The Regret had ever witnessed. Wars, murders, plagues, famines - unceasing death described in meticulous detail. Sickeningly the Progg had a death count at the end of every paragraph, the numbers climbing higher and higher at an alarming rate. Even Sylph reads in horror at the tragedies written down in the tome, crimes so gruesome and wars so destructive that no man could even bear to write them down and preserve the catastrophe in history. The words on the page begin to glow purple as the two read them, a faint droning echoing in their minds as they read on. This droning gets louder and louder as the death count climbs, eventually giving the heroes physical pain. By the time the death count was in the millions, they had to slam the book shut before they inflicted any more pain upon themselves. The Regret simply laughs as they stop reading that chapter - not even the heroes could handle what the Progg had written. They flip open to a much thinner chapter, this one titled "Perfect World." Perfect World "For those of you who were capable of enduring at least part of the previous chapter, it must occur to you now that humanity isn't something that deserves or can achieve salvation. Thousands upon thousands of years, and yet they just keep making the same mistakes over and over. Technology improves, war machines are constructed, new fighting style created... and yet, as time marches on and Olegaia changes, humanity simply refuses. they are an antique of a bloodstained past, and keep us locked in a perpetual existence of oppression and bloodshed. A perfect Olegaia is one devoid of their verminous kind, and I will be taking steps to ensure their destruction: 1. Enter: This step is a bit barbaric for my tastes, but marvelously efficient nonetheless. The Progg Legion will storm into the desired location, and just go on a rampage - a wanton spree of destruction. Destroy every plot of land, wreck any monuments or structures possible, kill every human you lay your eyes upon. Leave no survivors - women and children, of course, included. 2. Establish: With the initial slaughter done, begin routing out and imprisoning any hiding humans. Turn their settlements into Progg property and establish a camp here - all while hunting down and jailing any stray humans. When you have a camp suitable for Proggs to live in for some time, proceed to step 3. 3. Execute: Take prisoners out of their jailcells one by one. Two Proggs will escort the human to the executioner's podium, where he or she will be promptly slaughtered. A perimeter of elite Proggs will surround the entire area, as well as several patrols, to prevent any form of escape should a human break free from their escort's vice. Any humans unwilling to die yet may opt to be brainwashed into being a Progg servant, and either sold into slavery or to assist us in the next Entry phase. If the latter occurs, they will receive a painless death the next Execute phase in exchange for their meager services. If the former occurs, human slaves may only serve their masters for one year before being put down. 4. Systematically repeat, county to county, city state to city state, country to country, continent to continent. Sometimes, to permanently end a threat, you must commit the same crimes as your opposition... and if the above is what it takes to create my perfect world, then so be it." Sylph opens up to the next chapter... Magicks Hatred is an emotion that is such an underrated thing... Long ago, my spirit was split and my heart and soul were consumed by the blackest of despairs. It was - and still remains - an infinitely growing burden. However, hatred, sorrow, regret... I embraced it all, accepted it as my being. And it gave birth to some of the most powerful magic Olegaia will ever see... The chapter breaks down into a variety of strings and tables for every Arcane - every spell in this chapter was documented in minute detail. And there were plenty of spells - spires of fire, torrents of water, hurricanes, lightning bolts, summoning ents, raising glaciers, creating earthquakes, shooting beams of light, creating spires of darkness, teleportation, mind control, telepathy, spiritism, he even researched time travel. However, at the end of this chapter, there was a rather large section... regarding The regret's notes on how to end his life. It spanned more then a four hundred pages, his neat notes and hypotheses slowly growing more and more cryptic. His clean penmanship faded into a messy scrawl, dark phrases such as "MERCY" and "NO HOPE" visible in the jumble of letters. By the sections end there was nothing more then unintelligible scrawls... Tragically, from the dating, it was clear that The Regret had researched how to truly end himself for over a century. He never found the answer he was looking for. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 (edited) *snip* "The tome is incomplete." Muttered Sylph, almost-disappointed. He was more disappointed that all of the magick revolved around hate, and emotion that he refused to possess. "But then again, I didn't expect it to be that easy." Sylph chuckled. "You're an interesting conundrum, Regret. I have no doubt that we'll be at this for quite some time. Now, Party Members, is it time we dispel him?" Edited April 29, 2013 by Dannylonglegs Quote

This fiend's actions have impacted us all one way or another. His machinations lead to Rhodus killing Johon's Parents. He hexed Alex and tortured his Angelic Guardian. He marked your soul and forced you against us. His deceit lead to the corruption of his children, Punii's race. His people then massacred Hal's. He played with Galen's hopes and dreams. He injured Elgar as well. And he taught me something.... That I am not alone in my duty." finished Sylph with a sage-like air. Quote

However I feel that if all of us dispel him using our combined strength he will not come back for a longer time." Sylph chuckled darkly. "That's how it's worked in the past." He stated. "The more powerful those dispelling him, and the more who do so, the longer he'll be gone from this world... During the Orcish Invasion, I heard that the Veterans were able to dispel a particularly powerful hostile spirit for well over 200 years, and it has yet to return...
