BrickieB Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I wanted to make a compact, cheap, dustproof display stand for my minifigs. Everything I managed to design from lego (LDD) cost at least €5 in bricks per minifig, so that was not an option. As I didn't have many bricks to spare (just getting back into Lego) I took a display case from one of my other hobbies (RC cars) and taped part of a base plate to the bottom. Then came some 2x4 bricks ro raise the back figs and there you have it! Dustproof minifig case! As I have some more of these display cases, I will be able to make more as I collect more figs. Hope you guys like it! Quote
sealslip3 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Very nice! I've been thinking of doing something like that myself. Quote
Empire911 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Nice! Where do you get the glass/transparent plastic from? It fits very nice with the stand. Quote
BrickieB Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Nice! Where do you get the glass/transparent plastic from? It fits very nice with the stand. Kyosho Mini-Z RC car bodies come in this type of stand, and I happen to collect those (among other things). Once in a while I need a new body for my car and I don't throw the boxes away. So I have some of these to convert to Lego display cases :) Quote

Bilbo Baggins Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 This looks great for displaying minifigures, how many does it fit? Quote
BrickieB Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 I suppose it could hold 45 if I really crammed them in there - and they're not too big. Another picture without the dome: And for your entertainment I made another one, to show you how. This box has a slanted floorboard so I didn't have to use any bricks at all, I just needed to bend the figs back a little to make them stand upright. First up: the case Then, the floorboard after taking out whatever was in there (chassis, screws, some paper, ... ) Next up: cutting my lego board to size: ... Some double sided tape... And there it is! ... and now with figs. I have placed these a lot closer together than with the other stand as the box is smaller. They still all fit, with some rooom to spare. Hope you enjoyed it! sealslip3 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 If you don't mind my asking, where do you get those kinds of cases? I'm wondering if there are larger ones available because I'd really like to try something like that. Quote
BrickieB Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 As I said in an earlier post, they're what the bodies for Kyosho Mini-Z RC cars come in. Typically, these are thrown out by racers, so you could try getting in touch with a local (RC) hobby store or RC club that races Kyosho Mini-Z cars. You could buy a model and throw that out, but I'm sure there are better alternatives. ;) I would suggest Google to find a store or club and try to get these for free, or look on eBay for a modelling display case, there are manufacturers out there that sell these type of cases in all shapes and sizes... Just type 'model display case' in eBay and I'm sure you'll come up with something. Mind the dimensions though, because some may be very small... Or very large. You're in the US? Check out towerhobbies.com, they should have this sort of thing. Good luck! Quote
