drdesignz Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I haven't been able to think of a good design yet for the Technic Challenge, so I bought a 10220 VW T1 Camper Van model recently to rebuild it as a truck that I've been thinking about for a few months now. It's not too exciting, but it was a fun build. I spent the last few nights putting it together. Quote
DLuders Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 It appears that you simply removed some bricks from the Lego 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van set: Quote
drdesignz Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 I wouldn't say "simply"... I rebuilt it from scratch. The front end is mostly the same, but some of that was also changed. The rest of the truck is very different. New chassis, interior, engine, etc. Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Looks good! I've always liked the single cab VW's. I like the dual carburators sticking up out of the back. Quote
Kierna Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Too cool! I'd love a real Kombi to haul my bikes in. Nice engine, did the original model have one at all? Quote
Jim Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I love it! Like the way you adjusted the chassis to accommodate the low rider look. And a nice touch on the twin carburators! Well done. Quote
drdesignz Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 Thank you! Nice engine, did the original model have one at all? Yes, the original model also had one. You can see pictures here. It's quite a nice, detailed model. Quote
tedbeard Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Never seen the truck version before. The VW trucks I have seen are flat-tops with sides that fold down and storage areas underneath the bed. Do you have pictures of this type of truck IRL? Quote

No, the real life trucks have a shallow bed with storage underneath, just as you described. This is a highly modified custom truck of my own design. Quote
Sam42 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Oooh dluders I think you're downplaying this set-mod just a little! having built 10220 and then lowered it (only by half a stud) I can confirm just how much reworking the standard model needs to achieve that much drop. And all the little changes and details make for a nice smooth look. Lovely work. Damn it though I was gonna give mine a little skully gear shifter knob! Tadej Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Your pictures look like LDD renders, really awesome work of building and taking pictures Quote
