Exclusive Orthanc, huh? I really need to start putting money away. I think it will retail for about $130 - $150. I don't think it will be $200 - $300, like other members are saying. It'll definitely include Saruman, hopefully Grima, some Orcs/Uruk-hai, HOPEFULLY one or two Ents with Merry and Pippin, and maybe Gwaihir (right?) with Gandalf the Grey (a necessary evil if we want a giant eagle. Oh, that rhymes! :D)

They "can't" include gandalf, they already have a set covering their scene at orthanc. We already got a giant eagle in the black gate set. (presumably more to come in hobbit sets)

Well, you could also say the same thing about Saruman and the orcs/Uruk-hai. But a guy can dream, can't he? I do hope for at least two eagles from the LotR/Hobbit themes.

If the Orthanc set is true, I am very excited for it. I think just grima, saruman, and uruks are good as far as characters. I agree that treebeard would be unnecessary, I'd rather have a taller tower and then treebeard in his own set.

You know, if this is real, this may just be the first UCS set I get. It would certainly make up for the relatively lackluster wave.

This is what I would like to see as far as Orthanc's minifigure lineup goes:

Saruman

Grima Wormtongue

Lurtz (in armor)

Uruk-hai x3 (some with "White Hand" armor)

Mordor Orcs x2 (possibly new designs?)

Mordor Orc Emissary ("What orders from Mordor, my Lord?")

I think a $200 price point seems about right. I realize the tower could be mostly a hollow build and possibly make a $150 price point, but I'd rather it be more solidly built with a higher piece count.

I don't know. the image looks fake, but the rumor has been persistent. I hope it's true, and I hope that TLG announces it soon if it's in the March 1 lineup.

Be interesting to see if this actually made, perhaps a good way to sneak Treebeard in a last march of the Ents perhaps?

They could include a rugged, beaten exclusive Gandalf.

I hope this is true because I was about to order the parts to make my own!

If it is true it would account for putting Saruman in a smaller set so that people who can't afford the Orthanc for Saruman can buy that battle set instead

Hello guys,me again,I want to remind You on something.Do You remember that in exclusive Death star set we get around 28 minifigs,and it is not from just 1 scene,it is from every scene in all 3 movies what was happening in Death star,so maybe we will get also the same thing with Orthanc.Some ents,Uruk-hais (scene where Saruman tell ''March to Helm's deep....'',a couple Mordor orcs,all different, extended edition where Saruman is killed,Grima,and other minifigures.I would really like that

I have no idea what the set would be based on,

but since Gandalf the White already appears in the Black Gate, there's no real need for him in Orthanc (although the Black Gate won't give us Shadowfax... will we ever see that horse in LEGO?),

they could include Saruman, Grima Wormtongue, a few orcs, and it would be a nice way to get an Uruk-hai general as well, even if it's unlikely:

The Lord of Horse will not wear a saddle or bridle. So unless there is a Lone Ranger horse without any bridle printing, I doubt it would be a suitable replacement.

Um guys? Is it just me or is this pic actually pixelated like an old Nintendo game? I think someone maybe blew up that teeny tiny picture of the sketch model Orthanc in the developer room, so much that it looked like an 8 bit video game , then pasted it onto a scroll backdrop.

Keep in mind the Death Star was also set up where it could serve as the ultimate swan song for Lego's Star Wars lines. The original license was nearing its 10 year end at that point. Much like they on a smaller scale with Diagonal Alley for HP. Don't assume that anything produced for LotR will be quite that spectacular yet. He lines doesn't have 10 years of sales baked in.

Look at the picture more closely. You can clearly see a tall box around the tower, within which everything is pixelated - including the scroll backdrop and one of the "swooshes" of the watermark. It's convincing enough to me that I'm pretty sure we're looking at a legitimate set here.

I believe they are referring to the old picture with all the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings prototypes.

The new castle will also have a new white horse. Tower Bridge

The Lord of Horse will not wear a saddle or bridle. So unless there is a Lone Ranger horse without any bridle printing, I doubt it would be a suitable replacement.

Removing a saddle is not difficult... removing printing is not impossible, although not ideal either.
