Kez Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 middle of wall behind the fish might do something as it does not seem to be connected to the two sides Yes, I think you are right there, plus behind the fish there seems to be a large amount of empty space, perhaps there's something hiding behind it Infact the 'loose' wall could swing forward to knock the fish barrel down to distract the guard, I think this could be one of the main play features because bilbo is wearing the one ring so he must be invisible at that moment (to perhaps evade the guard) Quote
Fives Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 (edited) It seems to me that people are worried that this set indicates there will be no Smaug this wave. But this set depicts Laketown, not the Italian looking city from the AUJ prologue. That is a much larger, more land-locked city, and could possibly be the stage for the Smaug fight scene. EDIT: Dale is that city, and if I remember correctly, in the most recent video blog, Evangeline Lily was talking about being in the ruins of Dale, and having seen the set when it was full and beautiful. SECOND EDIT: There is a random raffle thing happening on MTV Geek"s Twitter page to win the Laketown set! http://geek-news.mtv.com/2013/07/19/sdcc-2013-win-a-lego-hobbit-desolation-of-smaug-playset/ Edited July 19, 2013 by Fives Quote

Smaug is done with Dale, hes out for laketown next. Battle of the 5 armies will partly take place in Dale. Quote
Fives Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Smaug is done with Dale, hes out for laketown next. Battle of the 5 armies will partly take place in Dale. According to the books, he's done with Dale. Who knows what PJ has up his sleeves. It seems like Thranduil, Legolas and Tauriel will all be present for Smaug's death. Lots of changes from the book means lots of unexpected possibilities for LEGO sets. Quote
matticus Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I hope we get 2 different Smaugs: One for a regular set and a UCS one. Very happy to see Bard but was hoping for a bear in the set from the trailer, which I assume was in Lake Town too. Boy, do I hope that Azog figure will be coming in a set! Awesome figure! Bad enough The superhero figs are exclusive... Quote

I seriously doubt PJ would've let that slip past. Quote

PJ said the final battle with smaug would heavily involve the dwarves and heavy artillery and one mightily bleeped off dragon. He said a definitive confrontation of the dwarves with their enemy smaug would happen near the end of that movie. Fran Walsh said it was the largest scale action piece PJ has ever attempted!!! I reckon the biggest set will be that and it may not be lake town where the whole thing takes place it may spread to lake town but I think it could be erebor where the main dragon battle is fought in dos. Depends how pj is swinging it. He just said it is awesome and it will make our jaws drop. I should think smaug could appear in that set. the source is the big dos special in empire magazine! Quote
just2good Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I hope we get 2 different Smaugs: One for a regular set and a UCS one. Hmm, a UCS one? That would be amazing! It's plausible, too- since TLG loves to do licensed D2C sets, though we got one for LOTR, we haven't for The Hobbit. Anywho, about the whole Smaug situation- I think the biggest set will include him. Come down y'all. Quote
deskp Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 So we saw a sneak peak at footage after BO5A? I seriously doubt PJ would've let that slip past. No no, what we saw were the actors on set, in Dale, they were shooting BO5A stuff. They have showns alot of behind the scenes stuff concerning bo5a. Smaug wll hve nothing to do with Dale in DOS. Legolas has some action in laketown well before smaug attack though. PJ said the final battle with smaug would heavily involve the dwarves and heavy artillery and one mightily bleeped off dragon. You are combining quotes that shouldnt nessecarily be connected. The final batte with smaug does not involve the dwarves, they just have some action with him before he flies off to lake town. the big action piece Fran talks about is whatever is at the end of the movie, it wasn't nessecarily in relation to the dwarves vs smaug. BlueberryWaffles Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I love the Laketown set! Very nice, a tad expensive but oh well. Azog as a SDCC exclusive.....damn! Why, LEGO, why? (But if he's in a set I'll be pleased that they did another exclusive mashup.) Quote
Basteq Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 What do you think about SDCC Azog exclusive figure? I hope it would end up in a common set. Quote
Blakstone Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I really like the building style of Laketown. If it wasn't for the boat (similar to the Viking ship I already had) I might consider getting multiple. As it is, I hope they have a smaller Laketown set that can be combined with this one. Quote

(bear thing) Thanks for clearing that up. Havent read the book and been manuvering through spoilers on here! In that case I dont see why we wouldnt get a Beorn set then! I really like the building style of Laketown. If it wasn't for the boat (similar to the Viking ship I already had) I might consider getting multiple. Looking at a map of Lake Town, would have been perfect to get multiple sets of, but I don't want a ton of boats around. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I like the set overall. The figures look nice and different than what I'm used to. I actually am okay with more dark brown pieces and those dark green windows . I was going to bricklink more of them anyway. I don't own any Viking stuff, so the boat is neat for me, although I doubt I will put it together. If what they say about the price is true, that is unexpected. I'd think they are either not showing something to accommodate that price, or the original price is misquoted. Either way, I'll have to wait for a sale then. I found the Warg set last year for 30% off a few weeks after it was released, maybe I can luck out again this year. Quote
Str0ngbad Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I would bet all my uruks that either the piece count/price is wrong or there is more to this set than we know about right now. There doesn't seem to be anything in there that would call for an extra $10; there's no way that little boat justifies that. Smaug doesn't make a lot of sense given the minifigures or the name though so I'm betting they got the price wrong. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 The name of the set does include 'Chase,' but I'm not sure what chase is going on in the current picture. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Lordofthebrick.com provides a couple of additional pictures: http://www.lordofthebrick.com/ Quote
Darth Lurtz Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 The set looks substantial enough to be in the 50 dollar price range. Piece count shouldn't define the cost of a set. The Minecraft set has nearly 500 pieces and you don't see them charge 50$ for it. Quote
Kez Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Thanks for the other pictures Lego-Freak, hopefully whoever wins the lake town set in this competition http://geek-news.mtv.com/2013/07/19/sdcc-2013-win-a-lego-hobbit-desolation-of-smaug-playset/ will post the pictures online, if we don't find out about the new sets soon enough this set could have the pictures of the upcoming sets in the back of the instruction booklet (sadly I am not eligible to enter because I do not live in the US) Quote
deskp Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Oooh real pictures!, Bard looks much better now, tho I still think the color choise for his coat is wrong. Quote
Leo604 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Oooh real pictures!, Bard looks much better now, tho I still think the color choise for his coat is wrong. I dunno, it does match up well with Luke Evans' costume. Maybe a little too much white on the lapels but I think that's about it. Quote

The color is too dark. I would have wanted redishbrown coat, and dark brown hair. Film --- lego color --- my color The name of the set does include 'Chase,' but I'm not sure what chase is going on in the current picture. That picture doesen't have a chase, but the chase is supposed to be Bard running from the guard. On a side note, The master's cape looks to be red on the inside and purple on the outside Seems lego has really got it started with 2-colored capes! Edited July 19, 2013 by deskp Quote
Darth Caedus Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I disagree, Thorins hair is like made for Bard, it looks right, and allows for quiver, Bard the BOWMAN, needs his quiver, it's also a shame they didnt print his quiver strap on him. note: gothic arch in brown. I agree. Though the Thorin hair mold was truly designed for Fili and Kili, it works great for Thorin and would work well for Bard. I've seen alot of pictures of Bard and i disagree, on top of that I don't like the Qui gon hair piece overall. its too smooth and shiny, and a bit too bad-sleek I'm sure I'll think it looks better when we see the face print without the 3d off-ness Dude, this is actually a win-win. This way, we get a cool Qui-gon hairpiece in black - totally new color - and you can just slap on hair from the spare Thorin you'll have from this set. That's what I'm going to do! As a bonus, they even gave Thorin a new outfit in this set. Awesome. I'm very pleased. Quote
