Deathleech Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I hope we get some new orcs/goblins in the set as well. I am really getting sick of the Mordor Orcs we have seen re-used in what, 5 sets now? At least give us a variation or two, SOMETHING besides just throwing Uruk-hai armor on them. Quote
WEREWOLF Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 so for The Hobbit 2013 LEGO sets we have Lake Town Chase (a set that i wont buy) and a off color, overpriced Azog orc Quote

At least give us a variation or two, SOMETHING besides just throwing Uruk-hai armor on them. I hope we get a new print based off the promotional shots for DoS orcs. They look like they have bones prominently displayed on their chest. Just one new print could satisfy everyone and spice up the line so that DoS has it's own Orc theme. AuJ had its own goblin prints so I hope DoS will be given the same treatment. The vlog and prologue soldiers are the same, the ones in the trailer are diferent, these are seen in another vlog inside the mountain. Thranduil has 3 types of organized elven figthers, His army (prologue) the woodland guards (Tauriel's crew) and the Realm's guards (trailer + PJ live event clip) I now think we now might see a mix of THESE and THESE Yeah those are different, I had forgotten. The armored soldiers have a brownish red and bronze color motif while the realm sentinels attacked on the wall have white and gold colors. It would be great to have two versions of Thranduil. Regal dress with his sentinel guards in white and gold and another (maybe in TABA) in his silver armor along with his bronze soldiers. Quote

Wich proapbly means we'll never a see a crowned Thranduil, wich is the only one that matter. Quote
Ardelon Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I agree. The Mirkwood army should feature the armored elves from the AUJ prologue where Thranduil turns away from Erebor to help against Smaug. I think these are also the same armored elves seen in the clip from the DoS trailer on the wall fighting orcs and Azog trying to scale the Mirkwood defenses. Again these are the same scene in the DoS vblog with about 30 extras in Mirkwood elf armor. This set is exciting because it could include one or two armored elves and a couple guards. Hopefully the armor will look unique and the helm with a V shape antler -like horns. Are you sure thats Mirkwood? Looks more like the ruins Dale - a big stone fortification rather than a hidden elven fortress carved into a hill. Anyway, I wouldnt expect prologue Elves, just like we didnt get any LotR prologue sets. Unless, of course, the same type of soldiers show up in a DoS scene. Quote

The prologue armor is the same used in bo5a, so they should show up in 2014 at least. And that is in mirkwood, theres not vegetation like that in Dale, Also I think it's like an outpost. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 My concern is will the elves have hair pieces or helmets or hoods.. The dark green good was nice, but I'd have preferred elf ears. Some cool helmets would be nice. Something new or the elf ears. That will make our break the set for me. I bought a few of the mirkwood elf poly, but I would have bought more had they had ears. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I refuse to believe that there will be only four sets based on such big movie like hobbit:DOS atleast there should be two more sets. Quote
just2good Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I refuse to believe that there will be only four sets based on such big movie like hobbit:DOS atleast there should be two more sets. Hey, look at Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel. We only got three sets for those. Quote
Fives Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Hey, look at Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel. We only got three sets for those. Yeah, but those a properties that exist within a wider license. LEGO holds the rights for comic based sets as well, and it all falls under the Disney logo. The Hobbit and LOTR sets are their own license, and aren't attached to anything else. Quote

Then again, Harry Potter only got three wide-release sets in its second (and last) "new" wave in 2011. Quote

Not disney far as themes are concerned. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Hey, look at Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel. We only got three sets for those. Yea but the thing is last year we had 6 hobbit sets and now we're getting 4 of them??I still think the list is fake or atleast incomplete. Quote
Alcarin Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Yea but the thing is last year we had 6 hobbit sets and now we're getting 4 of them??I still think the list is fake or atleast incomplete. Was there not same with LOTR ??? 7 vs only 5 this year ??? Quote
ZCerberus Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Yea but the thing is last year we had 6 hobbit sets and now we're getting 4 of them??I still think the list is fake or atleast incomplete. Two of the sets released last year were "preview sets" that should be more in line with DoS. I think that happened because PJ split up the movies after LEGO already had the sets planned. That means I am NOT surprised we are only getting 4 sets in this wave as we already sort of got two in the previous wave. Quote

You got a point there, but I'm suprised there aint any set with smaug.I mean he's a key character to the movie. Quote
Deathleech Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 (edited) The first LotR wave cost $373 total, the second wave (if you include Orthanc) cost $400. So, while the first wave did have more sets the second LotR set was actually more expensive and contained more pieces. What I'm surprised about is the Hobbit list didn't have the biggest set OR the smallest set listed. It seems unlikely an exclusive would be for either of those slots since so far they were right in the middle being the $40 set each time (unless you count Orthanc, then the biggest set might be an exclusive/D2C). Doing two big $100+ exclusives in a row seems unlikely for Lego, but having the biggest set in a wave only being $69.99 seems really unlikely too. Edited August 19, 2013 by Deathleech Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 TMNT's biggest set, the Shellraiser Street Chase, is only $60. Quote
Deathleech Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 True, and for some of the super hero themes like Iron Man 3 and Superman they didn't make a big set near the $100 mark. However, for the past three LotR/Hobbit waves we have had at least 1 set at or above the $100 mark. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 if this dosnt belong here sorry...Over at TOR.n they have all the front covers of the books and on pretty much every cover Bard is pulling his bow back.......sooo Fire and Water? Quote
LegoThomas Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) I just got my first mirkwood elf guard an was a little disappointed. With just the hood on, it felt incomplete. So i added one of Eomers capes. Looks much better now. Sorry for the twist. Edited August 22, 2013 by LegoThomas Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Nah, it's actually about the sets released. Which is this topic. Looks cool. Now I wish I had that polybag Quote
Mutant Orc Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I'd have got several if I'd known when/where it was... Quote
