Sigolf Brimabane Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Very unlikely, as it is an exclusive. Ah, that's too bad. I really want the set, but I hardly ever find a use for that much black pieces... But I like the ent. And Grima only comes in that set... It's hard to find a good reason to buy it xD Quote

Darth Punk Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Tower of Orthamic is now being sold by amazon so a discount is possible in the future. Quote
Deathleech Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Nah, Toys"R"Us had them late. They were released on TRU.com November 27th (along with other online shopping sites), but they didn't start appearing in stores until early December 2012. They were first at in the US at Kmart, which was around November 12th. My TRU had them about a week before they were officially released. I remember because they had a 25% off everything deal going (bringing them to slightly below MSRP) and I was debating getting them at TRU or waiting and getting the VIP points and buying them through Lego. K-mart had them all significantly earlier (but none near me had them in, go figure). Do you know if Orthanc will ever have its price reduced? I got a 10% off one item in store coupon in the latest Lego catalog and plan to use it in October when they have their double VIP points. That will make it roughly 20% off. Still nothing amazing, but better than paying full price I guess. Quote

Deathleech Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 (edited) The 10% off doesn't work for exclusives anymore. Link. Wow, thats lame. I guess there is no point in me waiting then, might as well buy it on Amazon and not pay any taxes as that saves me about 15-20 bucks, about the same I would get from double VIP. Deathleech Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 How would you be saving on taxes may I ask. Question is for Deathleech only. Amazon doesn't charge sales taxes for most states Quote
ZCerberus Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Amazon doesn't charge sales taxes for most states I thought that was your angle. Most states that have a sales tax also have a "use" tax on things purchased out of state but used or consumed in state to take place of the sales tax. Check it out- I bet your state has one. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_tax Quote

Check it out- I bet your state has one. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_tax Ahh, I was unaware of that tax. In that case I might as well just buy it at the Lego store with double VIP. Plus I just remembered they have the Christmas bonus when you spend over $100 so there is at least that bonus if we can't use the 10% off coupon anymore. Quote
ZCerberus Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Almost everyone I know has no idea what a use tax is and even fewer care since it seems both ridiculous and very hard for taxing authorities to track- but it still is the law and you are supposed to pay it. I bet almost no one does though. Honestly, the set is very "okay" to me. If you are a MOCer, black is a pretty common color and there aren't many super special pieces. Some one looking to display the build on the other hand would probably love it. It's big and interesting to look at. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 wow we cant talk bout certain things but we can talk about taxes.... Quote
SMC Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 ^ lol off topic, good point SandMirror38 I guess it is LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set taxes we are talking about Quote
Rogue Angel Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 wow we cant talk bout certain things but we can talk about taxes.... Taxes aren't like religion or politics, and it is relevant to the purchase options for a LotR set, just like talking about TRU and it's release times or discounts. Quote

Infernum Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 So we can't talk about sets that probably will come out, NOOOO...but we can blabber on about taxes. Only if the taxes are for 2013 LoTR sets... Quote

TheLegoDr Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 As impressed as I am with Orthanc, I haven't really done much with it other than sitting on the floor. My daughter has played with it a bit, but it mostly just collects dust. It is a well designed model though. If I wasn't a hardcore LEGO LOTR fan and wasn't into collecting the exclusives that LEGO puts out, I might have passed altogether. And on the side, I'm sure most people haven't heard of a use tax. I know I haven't. Although I think I heard somewhere they are passing a new law that will require it to be enforced (or maybe all states will start collecting sales tax even if there isn't a store presence in your state?? I'm not sure entirely, but I would've assumed ordering from Amazon and getting no tax would be the smart way to go until that law is passed. Quote
Fives Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Boy, oh boy we are starving for news on the new sets. You can say that again. There just isn't anything to talk about. It's a shame LEGO isn't willing to release more bits here and there, like teaser images of new figs or something. They know the fans want it, so just give us enough to talk about without giving away all the surprises. But once news or images surface, this thread will be up and running again at full speed. Quote

It would be awesome if Lego could stagger the info for new sets leading up to them being available at retailers. Maybe release info and pictures for one set every month for 3-4 months before hand (this would vary depending how big a wave is obviously)? They could even keep some sets secret like the ones they think will be super popular, or the flagship sets. I know they have to be careful not to reveal any movie spoilers, but that shouldn't be an issue seeing their recent license releases... This would at least give us something to talk about. Instead it seems we get bombarded with all the new set info all at once (from this theme and others) Quote
Darth Punk Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Almost all states have use tax, except Oregon and Montana. Some states are going after amazon to collect taxes but most have done little to enforce the issue. Quote
