Leo604 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Now we know what the LOTR sets are, what do you think the hobbit sets will be ? Well last year they were in late December around the same time when the first movie was released, so I'd expect about the same this year for DoS (also a December release date if I'm right). Quote
Alcarin Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Now we know what the LOTR sets are, what do you think the hobbit sets will be ? Hard to say... It all depends if LEGO managed to reverse their plans on 2 movies or not... if not we might see some 3rd movie locations (like we did in line 1) but if we assume they reversed and changed plans I expect to see atleast 1. Beorn 2. king Thraundil hard to say what sets since we got barrel escape and spiders... not much more of action running around until the battle of the five armies unless we will get attack on Dol Guldur.... Quote
Seaber Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 They have had a fair amount of time to adjust to the three movie set up. It would be cool if they could include scenes from AUJ which were missed out due to Mirkwood Spiders and Barrel Escape. The troll camp and hoard and Rhosgobel being two I'd like to see, as both are most likely to only appear in film one. Erebor from the prologue would be cool, but more likely to come in later waves. Radagast and Azog minifigures too please. I know Azog should have been in Warg Attack, but I am sure there will be a place for him in future sets. Quote
Deathleech Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 but if we assume they reversed and changed plans I expect to see atleast1. Beorn 2. king Thraundil Don't forget something centered around Smaug! Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 not much more of action running around until the battle of the five armies unless we will get attack on Dol Guldur.... Smaug attacking Laketown. I think it's a pretty safe bet that the second movie will wind up with that, possibly also including the first half of the assault on Dol Guldur. I'm not really sure we'll see Thranduil in the second Lego wave. We already got two sets that cover most of the book's Mirkwood action. There's not much more to include Thranduil in until the end, unless the movie adaptation is even farther removed from the book than it already is. Than again, AUJ did manage to include Elrond in plate mail and a giant albino Orc with a prosthetic hand, so DOS might have Thranduil fighting Nazgul on water-skis for all I know. Quote

Jet skis seem all wrong for Thranduil, I think an Apache helicopter would better suit him. Quote

Deathleech Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 An Apache might be more his style, but it's much harder to jump the shark on a helicopter. Ahh, good point. Legolas must have learned his Oliphant surfing skills from someone after all. Quote
danklaiber Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum but I'm a big Lego The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fan. I currently have all 13 sets that have been released so far, and I can't wait to get my hands on the new sets, particularly the Tower of Orthanc! Probably one of the sets that I'd most like to see in the second wave of Lego The Hobbit would be the three stone trolls; Tom, Bert and Bill. I'd also love to have a Lego Smaug and Laketown! Quote
danklaiber Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I decided to make a list of some of the possible sets that Lego could make from The Lord of the Rings, based on the film trilogy. I'm aware that the number of minifigures in each set may be unrealistic and also the repeated use of such characters, such as the Fell Beast, is also unlikely. Obviously some of the sets listed may be not worth releasing but I thought I'd list them anyway. I've done all the three films but I'll post each one separately. What does everyone think of the sets and which ones would be the most successful? DragonKnights Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I dug back into the 2012 thread and the LOTR first wave started appearing in the U.S. around May11th or so. It seems most got their early purchases from Target or Toys R Us, some online. I checked both websites today and none of the new sets are yet listed. I know that the official date for the second wave is June 1st. Was this the case with the first wave too? Still waiting... Quote
Deathleech Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I know that the official date for the second wave is June 1st. Was this the case with the first wave too? It was around June, yes. I can't remember the exact date though. I wanna say either the 1st or the 15th. Quote
Faefrost Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I remember early on when we first saw rumors of this waves LotR sets there was also the mention of what seemed to be a smaller "Frodo and the Ringwraith" set. Has anything ever been seen or heard about that? Was it pure rumor, or is there a hope that there is still a small exclusive somewhere in the pipeline? (I ask this because we just saw a picture of the SW Jedi Defender set for the first time today.) As far as the Hobbit? I'm fearful that DoS will be a smaller wave than we would like. Because of the last minute shift to three movies they wasted two DoS sets last wave. I expect we will see something from Laketown, and hopefully Beorn's house. And some sort of Erebor and Smaug set. But without knowing what they will also be doing with the whole White Council / Necromancer side story it is hard to guess. Quote

(I ask this because we just saw a picture of the SW Jedi Defender set for the first time today.) It was rumored on a small online store website (I forget the country). I doubt it is an exclusive otherwise it most likely wouldn't have been listed there. They also listed an Eagle's Nest set and "pirate ship", but so far only the Corsair Ship turned out to be an actual set. Quote
8BrickMario Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 (edited) I still want a Sauron action figure. That looked awesome in the game. The minifigure's not bad, but not as imposing. The action figure could have a special hand piece missing a finger, too. Like Furno XL, capes and armor look really cool together, so if they made a Sauron action figure, it would be top of my list. I also want a Radagast. Most likely we'll get one, too. Another polybag I would want is one of the Ringwraiths with sword from Weathertop. Would make it easier to collect all 9 or at least the ones from the scene. Edited May 9, 2013 by 8BrickMario Quote
Str0ngbad Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I figure we'll get 6 sets for DOS, give or take one. The movies have been known to be trilogies since early last year so they'll have had two years which I understand to be about how long their production process takes. There was nothing any of the toy manufacturers could do about the last movie but they should all be caught up this year. @8BrickMario, I kind of doubt we'll get another set with ringwraiths aside from the witch king. I went ahead and got my nine though I think I only really need eight. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I wonder when we will see the Balrog and Tree beard , because so far most the sets from "The Picture " have been made. Quote

It's one thing to discuss rumors or state that you would like to see a particular set. It's another matter to just list off all the possible sets you can think of or would like to see. That type of post does not belong in this thread. Quote

I can't really see a significant difference, is it purely because it's in a list format and discusses a large number of sets? I just thought it would be useful for everyone to examine and talk about which sets they would most like to see. Quote

This thread is meant to be a place to discuss currently confirmed sets, or rumours of the Hobbit sets. Yes, it makes sense to discuss what LEGO could possibly do with the DOS sets, but that easily becomes a conversation of wish listing and not about the actual topic of the thread. Sorry to mini-mod. Do people believe that, since we got two DOS sets in the first wave, that we cold get one or two AUJ sets next wave to balance it out. Maybe a Radagast's sled set with some Warg riders chasing him? Also, we're very likely going to get Azog this next wave. For those of you who saw the special live stream event back in March, they showed some guys working in the motion capture studio, and on the monitor it showed an Orc and Azog. Also from that live event it has been confirmed that the orcs track Thorin and Co. to the eaves of Mirkwood, where Tauriel and some elves fight off the orcs. Perhaps this scene will become a set and we will get the Azog figure so many fans are wanting. Edited May 10, 2013 by Fives Quote
