Rant over. J2G is great...

Thanks! :classic:

For y'all looking for the LOTR Summer sets at Toys"R"Us, here are the codes for the two bigger sets! My other TRU only had the two bigger sets.

I don't understand why people buy sets to review when they're obviously not into the theme. Is it for attention? For possible financial gain? I'm not trying to bag on YCF because that guy and his daughter seem really sweet, but come on - "you get a bird in this set." Really? It's just a bird?"

It seems like the cool thing to do now on YouTube - "Be the first person to halfway slap together a set, get it posted, and get subs! Who cares if I know anything about the set or the theme! Who cares if I mispronounce names! Who cares if I put it together correctly! JUST BE THE FIRST!"

One hardly needs to be an expert on the source material to like a Lego-set. In fact, it is often enough for most people to have watched the movies once in cinema (and occasionally again on TV) and if they like a movie themed set, why not buy it? (And since you have it already, review it).

I for one bought a Lego Batman set (76000), even though I neither read any comic nor watch the cartoons. I think I saw the last two movies, but the set is unrelated to them iirc. I just happened to like it: interesting vehicle, cool parts and story.

Actually, I believe that the casual buyers who may not know how to properly pronounce Sauron are far more important than us few nerds.

(I can't seem to use Wikia links for pictures?)

Oh, and Grogall's confirmed the Orthanc Tower will be a VIP Exclusive.

Yes. Notice how he doesn't post on here other than to advertise his reviews as well. As a personal owner of the same set I can say it's great because you get the Great Eagle and all the nice LOTR savvy figures. Gandalf was long overdue, and Aragorn was the frosting on the cake. The fact that an extended cut exclusive figure is also included and the 656 piece count for it's MSRP of $59.99 just makes it a great LOTR set.

Just a sidenote on the whole youtube review stuff: Probably unstopable to have people review things to be "First!". I personally dislike most of the established reviewers. I like our home-own just2goodeurobricks. : P He seems to do it with a passion.

Yep, one of the only popular ones who seems to have it too. He's now the only reviewer I watch. ;)

I saw the clip with the Mouth, as I am a novice to the films, and I gotta say, thank goodness they cartoon-ified the mouth. That is so creepy (and really fake looking  ) in the film, so the LEGO-ized version is more tolerable, though the head beneath the helm still gives me the willies...

Ya, it is a bit annoying. I mean I can understand pronouncing a name wrong here and there if you're not a die hard fan (even if "Sore-on" is mentioned numerous times in the first ten minutes of the Fellowship of the Ring...). It's kind of bad to have the wings backwards on the eagle, be calling it a "bird", and pronouncing names wrong all within the first minute of a review though. It really lessens the validity of the review. Why bother making a review of something if you aren't even a big fan of it's source material? The wings being backwards isn't even something you need to watch the LotR to know either, you just have to have ANY sort of bird understanding.. or look at the box/instructions. It reeks of being rushed.

All well, at least it wasn't as bad as the BrickShow's reviews. They have terrible reasons for giving the ratings they do and love to go off topic or drone on and on about pointless details on a set.

Three brand new exclusive figures, a horse, and an eagle, plus two grunts, for a set similarly priced to the Orc Forge or Weathertop, sets which only had four-five figures each. Overall, I thin k this is the best value for money set this wave. While the other three sets each offer unique new things, this set offers quite a bit for a decent price.

It's $20 more than Orc Forge and only comes with one more minifigure (though it does have the nice horse and Eagle mold as well). The minifigure count really isn't anything amazing. At 0.09 cents a piece though, it is a pretty good value for having the two big molded creatures on top of everything else.

I'm very pleased with the Black Gate and Corsair Ship. I think people will be pleasantly surprised by the corsair ship build. The ship is really large and has a great building process. While the black gate has some great minifigs, the size of the actual gate is a bit underwhelming and it could definitely use a second tower to make it whole. The army of the dead minifigs with the ship live up to the hype, and I'm enjoying the way the finished set looks on the shelf. Although, after building both sets, I'm a bit tired of black, grey, and brown bricks for awhile. I'm looking forward to picking up the Council of Elrond set if only for the interesting colors!

INITIALLY a VIP exclusive, ie VIP members can get it before official release.

Well I know what I'll be doing on 17th of June...

Well, in YCF's defense, I thought it was SORE-on initially. Now I know it's SAO-ronn, but I have to get used to saying it correctly.

It's excusable for someone who read the book well before they watched the movies, and never studied Tolkien's word/name pronunciation - but only because it's from habit, they should know by now. I thought it was Sawron rather than Souron until watching the movies. I know a guy who says "Shellob" and also "Magnet O" (he would've read many X-Men comics before any movies were made).

Yeah, it's like saying Smaug SMAO-g, not smog.

Anybody over "a certain age" is very likely to mispronounce many of the names in Tolkien's work, because there was nobody to tell us different when we first encoutered the names. I still regularly go around referring to the dragon as "Smog" and pronouncing Gandalf "Gandolf", because I grew up in the Dark Ages and read the books dozens of times before there started to be Tolkien fansites with handy pronunciation guides, let alone movies. It really doesn't mean the speaker doesn't know Tolkien. It just means they didn't see the movies first.

Wait.....how do you pronounce Smaug?

I've always thought it was with an 'aw' but Balin and Thorin say it with an 'ow'.

I usually just assume the movies are right.

SMAOG or, I've heard before, SMOHG. The LEGO design videos are also helpful with pronunciations, when you know that stuff like "Sawuman" is just their accent. But then there's "Bofoor" vs. "Bo-fur". Confusing. And before the clip, I thought it was "Killee", not "Keelee" to pronounce Kili's name. I bet J.R.R. Tolkien is laughing at our misguided pronunciation in his grave, along with cursing Peter Jackson!

Hahha leave our Southern Hemispherian accents alone  Don't get me started on how you guys say "Aluminium"
