For this same reason I don't think a huge $200+ Lothlorien set is likely. I just talked about the limited action happening in Orthanc, how is Lego going to justify making a huge Lothlorien set when literally half as much stuff happens there as in Orthanc (movie wise anyways)? I mean Lego still has so much LotR stuff to cover it's not even funny. I assume most kids would want a Balrog, With King on Fel Beat, Minas Tirith or Osgiliath, Mumakil, etc. over a huge Lothlorien set. Also it seems like the Lego Ewok Village set is trying to serve as both the village AND battle scene on Endor. I mean look at the swinging log feature, nets, speed bikes, and catapults included in the set.

Orthanc is the main representation of evil in the first and second films, and it's a tower, which I imagine would be easier to design in a larger scale. I can't realistically see anything being close to that scale, not even Minas Tirith. Though I can imagine two or three buildings in a D2C set like Diagon Alley, and few things could work for that (Edoras, Rivendell). Lothlórien could perhaps work as a Goblin-town-sized set, but I doubt it'd be any larger than that.

I just thought of something, the domed structure the White Council meets in might make for a nice set. Maybe that could be a possibility.

I hope we get a small "Theoden's Throne Room" set with Grima, a Theoden with a poisoned face and normal, and Gandalf. I'd love a poisoned Theoden, and it would be an easier way to get Grima for those who want him.

I'd grab this if it also came with Eowyn.

It could also come with a Rohirrim guard. The ones that tried to take Gandalf's staff.

Oh I like that idea. Yeah throw in an Eowyn in girl clothes minifig and it would be perfect. Maybe Shadowfax and some small build about the size and price point of Council of Elrond.

At the Lego store they had the Chima game but not Batman or LOTR. I asked an employee and he said he doubted that they would get the latter two games. This plus the fact that they weren't online or in the catalog makes me sad. My only hope is the advertisement in the back of the Black Gate instructions.

Not sure about Batman, but the Helm's Deep game is listed at Shop@home here in Aus, for $50 from memory

While the set is shown to just be connected at the technic bits at the sides, I did a little modding on my set and found that its really easy to that the two doors of one set and combine them to one door, so if you do the same with a second set, you can have one long, larger Black Gate.

Nice.

Thats what bricklink is for. buy the 2. one without any minifigs and get it dirt cheap! (mind you i'm not aware of shipping costs for oz)

I could possibly get those 2 sets at half that price, but then the postage cost would be such that I could get 2 brand new sets locally for a similar price if I found a good sale, and then still have the extra minifigs (which doesn't bother me, they can go to another scene).

Both are available for AU, both are $50. I wonder if those 2 games will be unavailable for US just as the SW game was? (Being licenced board games - maybe TLG is not allowed to sell them)

I got the new Lego catalog today and on the back there is a coupon for 10% off one item purchase in store from 6/3-7/7. This might be good to use on Orthanc as it will bring the price down to $180 here in the U.S., which is as just as good as double VIP, if not better. It also allows you to buy the set as soon as it is released.

My only question is will the early VIP Orthanc purchase be available in store as well? If so you could use the coupon AND get the Jor-El minifigures thereby maximizing your purchase.

I asked an employee at my store yesterday and he said it would be available in store on the 17th.

bet there is no 10% off here in the UK, we will be lucky just to find the new wave. 10% off would be great.

So what do you do, just show an employee you are a VIP member and ask them to get you an Orthanc out of the back? I assume they won't have the set out on display because then they would need to tell people they can't buy them unless they are a VIP.

What they did with the Mini Modular set was that they had 'em on th shelves with a sign underneath. You can only ring it up with the VIP card.

Is it sad that I plan to go to the Lego shop on the 17th just to look at the box and know one day it will be mine.

I mean I might just head down to the shops and if I have time I might have a little look in the Lego shop and see if they have anything new.

They put them out with a sign that you need to be a VIP to buy one. You can sign up for VIP on the spot. So this is really more honey to get new people into their VIP program.

Delta, you took the words right out of my mouth. A tower is much easier to represent as a set, and is Very iconoc of LotR. For Rivindel, all we sed is the council, there is no set buildings that you can really identify other than Frodo's bedroom (which could come with a freaky double-sided old Bilbo face). Lithlorien is barely in it, and again has no buildings you can really identify with except the pool, which wouldn't make for much of a playset. Minas Trith is the only city that has distinct features, but they are so spread out that it would be very hard to make one playset for it. Tou'd have to combine the gate at the bottom with the white tree on top.... Diagon Alley is exactly how I would expect any urban location to be displayed, and it just wouldn't work with any of these LotR locations. Bree would be your best bet with the Prancing Pony, the stables and the Gate.

I would love to see Theoden's Hall, but I think we may have seen all of Rohan that we're likely to get.

Seeing how well they did the Ewok Village, I think Lothlorien could be both spectacular and iconic. It's not so much the specific places as the architectural style - with the new arches and Lego's ingenuity, I'm sure they could capture that. Imagine the current Ewok set, except the main platform is where the Fellowship meets Galadriel and Celeborn. The trees have stairs around them, the forest floor is where the fellowship hangs out/the mirror of Galadriel. You put in Galadriel, Celeborn, a night-clothes Frodo, a Boromir with a sad/dismayed face, a Lothlorien garb Haldir, a bunch of assorted Lothlorien ranger/Galadhrim warrior minifigs, a few other Fellowship members or some Moria goblins on the outskirts. If it was as well designed as the Ewok Village shows that they're capable of, It'd be a great hit for the line.

^ I agree with that setup, but there's no way we'll see a Lothlorien set on the same kind of scale as 10236. I'd be happy with an $80 set if they could somehow scale it down to that size.

Ooh, I didn't know that the lego store can put sets aside, il have to get them to put an Orthanc and black gate set aside for me, thanks :classic:

Hm, I called the LEGO Store and they said they aren't allowed to put new sets on hold; not that it mattered in this case--there were tons of Wizard Battles and Councils of Elrond.

^ Thanks, I wasn't exactly sure if the store could save any sets anyway, hopefully my store will have plenty of orthancs and black gates :classic:

Oh, make no mistake, I know that's a fantasy at this point. If I had the choice, though, I would have rather we had a Lego Lothlorien than a Lego Ewok Treehouse.

Our friend (who's the Manager at Westfield London) always puts sets aside for us. He even sends them over to France for us!
