Deathleech Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 (edited) ^ I agree with that setup, but there's no way we'll see a Lothlorien set on the same kind of scale as 10236. I'd be happy with an $80 set if they could somehow scale it down to that size. Those are my thoughts too. A Lothlorien set might be likely, but it would probably be something much smaller. I just can't imagine Lego making a huge $200+ dollar set out of a location that has such limited screen time and very little action or conflict happening in it. I COULD see Lego making a $13 set with Galadrial and her mirror/pool and Frodo, or even a $20-40 set based on the video game depiction with Galadriel, Celeborn, Haldir, and a few Fellowship members. A huge set just seems really unlikely in my mind though. I mean look at Star Wars, most of the huge UCS and play sets are super recognizable locations or vehicles packed with action. The Death Star, Ewok Village, Millenium Falcon, X-Wing, Star Destroyer... most of them are featured a ton if the movies and/or have pivotal roles. Very rarely do you see a lesser known vehicle or location like the Sand Crawler or Luke's Speeder. The B Wing is about as obscure as it has gotten so far, and even then it's still a ship featured in all the movies and in a line that has been going over 13 years. Then again Lego did make a $100 pirate ship and the Corsairs are featured a total of like 2 minutes in the theatrical release of the film so who knows. Edited June 3, 2013 by Deathleech Quote
Gremer Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Oh, make no mistake, I know that's a fantasy at this point. If I had the choice, though, I would have rather we had a Lego Lothlorien than a Lego Ewok Treehouse. The main reason is that SW is LEGO's most popular license, because there is a huge fanbase and SW things sell. LOTR is relatively new, so they don't know how big the entire fanbase is from one year of sells. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 (edited) I think if we do get a Lothlorien set it will most likly look like this also , Which Sauron figure would be better , this one or this one and heres The Picture of some possible later sets P.S. I put it in spoilers for anyone who doesn't want to see it again. Edited June 3, 2013 by Dr.Cogg Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 ^ Those two versions of Sauron can't really be compared. One is clearly a minifigure, while the other is...something else. More like a buildable figure. Quote
just2good Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Hm, am I the only one who thinks that the Lothlorien set was a cancelled set? Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 (edited) From what I can see in The Picture it looks like a possible, Lothlorien , Balrog and Treebeard set for the Third LotR wave , which would cover at least half of that wave , but this is just speculation. P.S. My question about the Saurons was which Sauron would look better in a set , My idea would be take the first Sauron and give him a body like Woody from the Toy Story sets. Edited June 3, 2013 by Dr.Cogg Quote
Gremer Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I think minifigure Sauron would be better. I remember reading that in the books, Sauron was described as about 9 feet tall. Quote

All the set in that picture look preliminary to me helms deep, orthanc and is that bag end all look different from the real sets. Treebeard, Balrog, Lothlorien all do seem very likely could it be another small wave before a big 4th Minas Tirith wave. I really want a big big Minas Tirith . Quote
Lynx Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Thanks for compiling the images Dr.Cogg. I would prefer a minifigure Sauron over a brick-build one. I certainly like the idea of having a slightly enlarged minifigure such as Woody. As for Lorien, I think the set will be exactly like that but with the potential addition of Galadriel's mirror. While Bag End and Orthanc looked different in their final versions, Helm's Deep, Elrond's Council and the Black Gate were near 1:1 equivalents to the video game versions. Lorien certainly looks like a perfectly viable set, although I hope it may include some more details to capture the movie feel. The set appears roughly the same size as Elrond's Council (possibly slightly larger) and could thus come with four or five minifigures. I am looking forward to Galadriel! Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 As I said earlier. $40 set, make it exclusive, game model plus a little Mirror table, Frodo, Galadriel, Celeborn, Haldir. BOOM. Next waves store exclusive set. Quote
deskp Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Aaaarg, this is possible 2014 talk, not 2013 talk and it's also been seen plenty of times. *twitch* Quote
WEREWOLF Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 the new LOTR sets are still not on shelves at Walmart, Kmart, and Target, here in California (site to store and shipping = longer wait) guess pay more at Toys R Us Quote
Deathleech Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 guess pay more at Toys R Us Or just wait another few weeks and get them on Amazon for 20-25% under MSRP. That would save almost $100 bucks vs buying them for MSRP anywhere else. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 (edited) Plus, it would save you a whole lot more than paying 20-25% over MSRP from TRU. Why AFOLs continue to support their price gauging practices is beyond me.... Anyhow, Tolkien brings up a great point that Lothlorien could make a good $40-50 exclusive set. While it only had a brief appearance in the films, it's one of the only locations not yet represented in Lego form (aside from the gaping hole in the LOTR theme that is Gondor....). Karlson Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Hello everyone, I am a new member to the forums but have read along with posts for several months now. I decided to create an account so I could ask for some advice/help. Up to this point, I have bought nearly all the LotR sets and built them as they should officially be built (from the instruction manuals) while adding and tweaking parts such as making the Deeping Wall on Helm's Deep longer and the tower larger, etc. But now, more and more, I feel the urge to expand from the official sets, especially the new ones. I just ordered two each of Council of Elrond and Black Gate and desire to combine each of them together to form a larger version of their official form. I was just wondering if anyone had or was planning to do this as well? If you could post photos of these sets combined so I could get some ideas that would be great. Quote

Here's a quick (read: bad ) photo that I took of my setup, both front and back: Quote
Karlson Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Thanks Combee! Your setup is one of two options that I had in mind. The other is to make the gate itself very long (combining two individual gate doors into one large door) with the towers on each side. I also ordered the Lone Ranger Calvary Set just for the white horse because we all know Gandalf is going to need his trusty steed Shadowfax. I like your eagles above as well, but personally I think the eagles in the Black Gate set are just a bit too small. I ordered the Fierce Flyer set from Lego Shop and plan on modifying it slightly to make it all brown instead of its official appearance of a Bald Eagle. I think Gandalf will look better sitting atop him than the smaller one. Also, it has working talons for picking up orcs and hobbits alike! Quote
Str0ngbad Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) I'm glad you stepped out of the shadows Karlson! The beak on the Fierce Flyer bothers me more than anything; it looks way too blocky If that were addressed in addition to the colors, I think I might prefer it to the small molded one. The only other thing that might bother me is its size in relation to the sets. With the gate shrunken down I'm afraid an eagle that is appropriately sized to minifigures could make the set look puny. I look forward to seeing the pictures of someone who tries it. Edited June 4, 2013 by Str0ngbad Quote
Karlson Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I'm not a huge fan of the beak either; perhaps there's a way to modify it to become down-curved and pointed. Once Orthanc is released, I think this eagle will look really great if suspended in the air just above the tower. Quote
deskp Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Here's a quick (read: bad ) photo that I took of my setup, both front and back: Yess thats the stuff, looks great! only thing that would make it better as a display piece was replacing the bottom plates with 2 of these: Think it would be 2 studs too short, but if obsessive you could mod the rocks to fit The combined "gates" makes a great backdrop for minifig display aswell! Quote
8BrickMario Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Yeah, that's how the combo should look. The doors with the towers on either side, and then walls to the sides of those. Not two gates right beside each other with Gandalf doing "eeny-meeny-miney-mo" to choose which pair of doors to enter! LEGO should have included instructions for the proper combo. Quote
WEREWOLF Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 any sign of new polybags? i've asked this before but i dont want to miss out because i only got 3 Elrond, 5 Mirkwook Elf Guard, 1 Gandalf Dol Guldur Quote
8BrickMario Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Nope. no news, but lots of hopes for a Soldier of the Dead poly, along with many other possibilities! Quote

Next waves store exclusive set. Sorry if this is off-topic, but why make Lothlorien exclusive? Do just mean because we've had two other $40 exclusives (Orc Forge and Barrel Escape)? Come to think of it, I'm surprised we didn't get an exclusive in this wave--though I suppose Orthanc is going to fill that gap in a major way. Quote
