SheepEater Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 (edited) I received my order last week. I now own the entirety of the LOTR and Hobbit lines so far. With the exception of the hobbit board game, and blue Bilbo Baggins. But I'm not forking over $40 for a fig that is highly likely to appear in next winter's wave. It's tempting to get a second black gate set - but I have no intention of spending another $75 CDN on it. What's the best option for my 2nd one: 1) Waiting for a sale and buy it, then sell off the minifigs I don't want 2) Buying the gate only on bricklink (no figs, no instructions, no box... though I would like to keep the orcs) sometimes later I might keep my 2nd Mouth of Sauron and get a black head & hood, maybe a tattered cape (though those aren't cheap) and pretend he's my 3rd Nazgul. deskp Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 blue Bilbo Baggins. But I'm not forking over $40 for a fig that is highly likely to appear in next winter's wave. Blue bilbo is from the extended edition of AUJ, not from DOS or TABA. He will not be in future sets. Quote
SheepEater Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 (edited) Blue bilbo is from the extended edition of AUJ, not from DOS or TABA. He will not be in future sets. His blue outfit from that extended edition scene might not be the same as the blue outfit he wears on the gold pile, but Lego might not make the distinction. Look how Aragorn's sword is always the same. Speaking of Aragorn... I'm a purist so I won't get anything not produced by Lego. So what's the best Anduril we have at the moment? I'm opting for the first option for now. I own both, and the second one looks too futuristic in Aragorn's hands. Too bad none of them have a pointy tip, though. Also... I'm using the sand-green Orcs from the fantasy era Castle to supplement my Mordor (or Moria) orc armies. But they never came with shields of their own. What shield do you think fits them best? At the moment I have one of these and it looks barbarish enough, but doens't give off a very "Mordor-ish" vibe. EDIT: Nevermind that. They DO have shields. Edited July 7, 2013 by SheepEater Quote

BlueberryWaffles Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 @Ieatsheepies: 1: I don't think LEGO's going to put EE Bilbo in the next wave. 2: I use option one for Aragorn but in silver. Give him that and a brown quiver and you have accurate Aragorn. Quote

The_Chosen_1 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Also, I would personally purchase a second Black Gate set and sell off any unwanted minifigs. You shouldn't have too much trouble unloading Aragorn, Gandalf the White, and Mouth of Sauron since all are exclusive to the set. Quote
SheepEater Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I have purchased a few fantasy era sand green orcs and crown knights (the latter being quite cheap on bricklink). I have found that they are excellent substitutes for mordor or moria orcs and gondorian soldiers, respectively. I don't have a problem with mixing yellow minifigs with flesh tone minifigs at all, nor do I have a problem with the generic neck protector helmet - although they don't look like this in the videogame, it's the closest thing we got. For orc swords, Lego have used this mold for quite a while now. I'm curious now, are there any movie stills that show orcs actually using similar looking swords? Quote

You could probably find someone that would like to get the figs to split the cost with you. I even know a someone who could help you out with that third nazgul. It's a great set but I just don't have any room for it. Quote

deskp Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Oh sorry, then yeah, we'll see stuff Wednesday. Last year they showed of some minifigures online weekend before comic con. And last year they had 1 day dedicated to each of the themes they featured there. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Dammit i'll be back to school by then :( At least I get to go to MSO Two towers :D Thanks for the dates Quote

Fives Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I have a very strong feeling that we'll see new figures that were featured in both AUJ and the DOS trailer; Radagast, Azog and Thranduil are the three characters that stick out in my mind as the most important new figs, maybe Bard as well. And I think we'll see a Mirkwood themed set. Makes the most sense to me. Quote
just2good Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 (edited) And I think we'll see a Mirkwood themed set. Makes the most sense to me. I'm not familiar with The Hobbit at all, but we did get the Mirkwood Spiders set- that's enough, right? Edited July 11, 2013 by just2good Quote
Leo604 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I'm not familiar with The Hobbit at all, but we did get the Mirkwood Spiders set- that's enough, right? I think it would depend on how much of DoS takes place in Mirkwood; if there's another big showdown like at the end of AUJ with Azog and the Company (79002), we might get a set like that. I think they'll focus more on Lake-town when it comes to a set of 79002's magnitude. Quote
Fives Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I'm thinking more along the lines of Thranduil's Halls, the vast subterranean kingdom of the Mirkwood Elves. Include Azog and some orcs, and you've got yourself the flagship set of the wave, or at least the second biggest set. I really hope the smallest set has something to do with Radagast, but they could also do Gandalf's fight with an insane Thrain. Quote
