just2good Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 (edited) Gosh that azog figure looks great, hopefully the same version of him will get released in one of the new hobbit sets (I fail to see why lego would make two/three new moulds for an exclusive 'one off figure'). It seems to be two new molds- his headpiece is like the Yeti's from Series 11 (one whole piece for the head and some chest) and his other hand/clawish piece. Looking at it, I love that hand piece. deskp Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Nice eye. Those legs do look odd... After doing some comparative mesuring, i have confirmed they are normal sized. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 It seems they are giving them out randomly and since they didn't have a huge press release for it, I wouldn't think it is exclusive. I'd think it would be similar to the Bilbo give-away that was also in another set. It is hard to think that they would release a mold for a figure that will be given away at a convention without considering how much they could spread out that mold among sets. I don't think he looks that great, but if he comes in a set, I will pick him up. I don't see myself paying out the nose for him though. Quote
CM4Sci Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 Wow, that hand piece will be really useful for something... -Sci Quote
Darth Lurtz Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Maybe the main release of Azog will be white. It would still make this an exclusive. Quote
Sarah Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Sam was only available in one set so far. The Shelob set. Lego's license is with Warner Brothers / New Line Cinema via the company Middle Earth Enterprises, not the Tolkien Estate. So they can only make sets of things directly from the movies. They can't use things from the books that do not appear on screen. The Tolkien Estate rabidly polices this sort of thing. J R R Tolkien outright sold the movie, names and merchandising rights to LotR and the Hobbit to United Artists for a flat fee back in 1968, which in turn sold them to MEE. This has long infuriated the Tolkien Estate and Tolkien's relatives. They did not see a direct dime from the movies. (The fact that the movies more than doubled the total global books sales of the property was somehow lost on them.) So there has long been a bit of a licensing war between the two organizations. Thank you. I had no idea there was so much bad blood between the two licenses :( I'll have to go back and watch the end of the third movie then because other than remembering that it is vastly different than the books, I don't recall it off hand. Maybe I can get the Hobbit Bag End and put together my own end set. Quote
deskp Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 (edited) Maybe the main release of Azog will be white. It would still make this an exclusive. All the WETA Azog merchandise is fairly beige, I hope they have updated him in movie aswell, casue the overly whiteness made him look fake. I think in 5(?) months the only thing exclusive about this figure is the packaging. And might I add, Lego Azog is gosh darned CUTE! Edited July 19, 2013 by deskp Quote
N7LEGO Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Yes we'll have it in a set for sure. I won't go crazy to find this one. I'll save my money :) Quote
Legomaster34 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Are we sure this is real? It may just be the picture, but it doesn't look... right to me. It looks almost custom... If it is real though I have no doubt it will be in a set; why would LEGO make a major character an exclusive? Also there's the argument of the Minifigure having two new molds, but that's been said by others previously in this thread. Quote

Also the packaging for him front and back, it's not fake. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Wow that kinda looks unfair from my point of view,Azog is an important character on the Hobbit trilogy,I mean he's the main bad guy after all and I bet he'll play a big role on the upcoming films and what's Legos response??Lets make him an exclusive!!! (facepalm) Any way I have to admit that the Azog minifig looks awsome!!! Quote

Yep, I too am in with that hand piece, his printing is also very nice, at first I initially thought it was 3 moulds but it is 2, this is because deskp thought the legs were bigger but it turns out they aren't, the only thing I am not too keen about azog is his weapon, I can't wait to see the new hobbit set tomorrow. Hope your right, maybe Lego is doing the same thing like they did with bilbo last year at first we thought he was an exclusive but then it was revealed that he was in one the sets of the hobbit line.(An unexpected gathering) Edited July 19, 2013 by LOTR343 Quote
Fives Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I'm gonna be honest and say HOLY HOBBITS AZOG IS AWESOME! Sure, he looks a little wonky, but I thnk if we got some out-of-box views, opinions could change. The legs look like they could be new, but I think they are normal legs. And his claw hand looks strange. Almost looks too long. But the one thing that's really getting to me: what the heck is up with his weapon? It looks like a 1x2 plate somehow connected to that stick and cone. Looks nothing like his mace from the film. Hopefully it's just the angle of the picture. Otherwise, he has a brick built shovel as a weapon. Quote

The only times lego makes free figures with new molds is when someone else pays for it, (nesquick, BR toys) I believe we will see the set he comes with tomorrow. I think they should have opted for the fan/moc solution of using a technic(?) cog piece instead.. http://cache.lego.co...GalleryFile.jpg http://images.mocpages.com/user_images/82990/1367196649m_SPLASH.jpg Edited July 19, 2013 by deskp Quote
Fives Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 This exclusive is no different that the Bilbo one from last year, only its generally a way better fig. Quote
just2good Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 This exclusive is no different that the Bilbo one from last year, only its generally a way better fig. That's what I'm hoping. It's not completely confirmed that this is an exclusive, which is good. The packaging worries me, though, but I might be looking into it too much. Quote

I say it again, timed exclusive/context exclusive(packaging) Anyways, its so nice to have something concrete to talk about regarding 2013 hobbit lego. I mean, we still havent even gotten a leaked set list. Edited July 19, 2013 by deskp Quote

I mean, we still havent even gotten a leaked set list. We should soon see a list surface somewhere. I'm really glad that Azog didn't just get the Misty Mountain goblin headpiece. The brand new mould gives his head the shape it needs, and the height the fig needs. Just took a look at the images of the Spider-Woman fig from SDCC, and she is in packaging identically shaped to Azog's. Lets hope that isn't a bad sign and is just the way LEGO is packaging figs this year. Edited July 19, 2013 by Fives Quote
The Legonater Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Azog is looking pretty nice. I have little doubt he will come in some set in the next wave. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Three things that lego should have done with this Azog: 1# Make him white with blue lines. 2# give him new Arms. 3# Lego should have made this an exclusive fig of him before he lost his arm. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Brothers-brick has unveiled the set, Lake Town Chase: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5515/9320485285_91b102e9f8_o.jpg Quote

Haaang on, Azog never have blue lines, and making him whitecould be a bit too crude looking. New arms? no no, it's the torso that should have been all new so the arms were connected right. Quote
