Leo604 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Also, is anyone else really excited to see the box art for the new sets? I know we haven't even gotten a full set list yet, but we can pretty much guess what LEGO will do. But with the new LOTR wave, they changed the Ring in the corner to the Eye. Do you think they could do something similar for The Hobbit, or just leave it the same? The only thing I can think of is maybe a Smaug closeup on the head or something related to Lake-town and/or the Erebor region. Quote
N7LEGO Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Its crying... complain silently or complain to TLC ... its their thing not Eurobricks.... Its polluting the topic with useless stuff instead of discussing how crap or good the new set is you complain why you cannot get a free Azog... While you probably did not even attend the event where you could get it. If was just answering other people complaining about this, so if you don't like my posts, just don't read them. But with the new LOTR wave, they changed the Ring in the corner to the Eye. Do you think they could do something similar for The Hobbit, or just leave it the same? On the Hobbit box, it was just the letters "The Hobbit" with a mountain landscape. Maybe we'll have a Lake-Town landscape or Smaug. Quote

This was refelcted in all marketing to really show that these were new items. So far it looks like DOS pacaging. There will be a bigger change than jsut the top corener "icon" that lotr lego has. I think the packaging for Azog minifigure is a great example of whats to come with DOS packaging, dark green. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I would like a white Azog over a tan Azog , He is called the pale orc after all. Quote
Rogue Angel Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 It seems that things have calmed down a bit, but please rememember that endless debates about whether or not Lego should be producing exclusive figures, how many should be distributed and where do not belong in this topic. Lego has the right to produce whatever they want, whenever and in any quantity they like. Quote
ZCerberus Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I like all the dark brown *snip* Seeing the pictures of the actual build, it appears to be regular ol' reddish brown. Boo! Hiss! I guess people will be buying this one for the minis. Quote
deskp Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 (edited) I guess people will be buying this one for the minis. Never mind the fact that it's a good looking set and a nice representation of Laketown. Theres also the 2 redish brown gothic arches that people seem to be in love with! Edited July 22, 2013 by deskp Quote
Str0ngbad Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 ...it appears to be regular ol' reddish brown. Boo! Hiss! My sentiments exactly about the brown. This set has some great pieces and minis but I'm not sold on it as a whole. Perhaps it will grow on me but it's certainly no Bagend. I really expected quite a bit more from the comic con reveal. Theres also the 2 redish brown gothic arches that people seem to be in love with! I do think the arches are interesting, but I think it is too sparse to be a "good representation" of Laketown, the boat is an almost exact replica of an earlier set and it is made in the the regualr ol' reddish brown. There are also a few other dk green pieces which may be nice. My comment was mostly my dissappointment that the LDD drawing looked like it was dark brown which would have made the set so much more attractive. Quote

Lots of people are complaining about the lack of dark brown. Why? The set looks nice. If it was all dark brown, it would be too dark. I also think that this won't be the only Laketown set we get. If the showdown with Smaug is the climatic battle of DOS, then the flagship set of the new wave should be his attack, which means we'll get more of Laketown. That would make the Laketown Chase set a decent add on to a larger diorama of the city. While it may seem unlikely, I think we're in sore for two Laketown sets. EDIT: deskp, those comparison pics really help showcase how amazing LEGO 's work is with these figs. Amazing representations of the actors and costumes! Edited July 22, 2013 by Fives Quote
ZCerberus Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Lots of people are complaining about the lack of dark brown. Why? The set looks nice. If it was all dark brown, it would be too dark. Maybe you aren't complaining because you are a collector and not MOCer. If I bought this set, it would stay together for about 3 or 4 days after being built before it is taken apart and added to a MOC. MOCers will take new and useful colors over common colors every day of the week. Why does LEGO have 4 different colors of green leaves? Because people like a variety of colors for MOC purposes. The LDD pictures appeared to be dk brown, but the set is not dk brown. It just significantly lowers the value for MOCers. There seems to be a pretty big divide in history in general between MOCers and the LotR guys. Doesn't mean we can't all get along, it is just clear that we buy sets for VERY different reasons. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I agree...I am upset that it is reddish-brown instead of dark brown. I don't mind having some extra red-brown pieces, but dark brown would have been perfect. With that said, I am less enthused about this set. I think the buildings look good and the figures are outstanding, especially compared to source material, but I'd prefer more dark brown pieces in reality. I'm also not pleased with the piece count, unless that has been changed somewhere. But like always, it will be about the same price to buy the set or buy each figure you want individually. I'll just wait for a decent sale. Quote

DaleDVM Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I read the last 10 pages to see if anyone noted this. I am so surprised of the snow and ice depicted in the Laketown set. They arrive in the barrels on September 22nd and winter is still several months away. I know they are just copying the movie and I just watched the trailer. Plenty of snow and ice around. Peter Jackson is an idiot for messing with timelines. They find the door on Durin's day which happens to be the last week of fall that year. Just sayin.... On topic. The brown arches are exciting. Looks like a nice build. Quote

Looks like a nice build. Doesen't the battle happen during winter in the book?, the movie propably have a compressed timeline compared to that, so it was propably either no winter or an early winter. Fives Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I love the fact that its winter when they reach Laketown. It looks awesome. Plus we've never really had any wintery castle sets, so the Laketown Chase is sort of a breath of fresh air when it comes to that. I'd love to see more castle stuff based in winter. Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 The odd thing about the snow is that I was not all that impressed with the set until I realised you could easily use as a basis for a Winter Village MOC. It just doesn't look like a Middle-Earth setting to me (although that might change after I see the movie). But change a few things around and youve got a nice little icebound dock and a couple of rowboats, plus very nice LOTR minifigs. Quote
Durins Bane Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I'm cool with it. I'm just really f'n happy were getting another wave. I'm way more excited about getting whatevers coming to us then what is at sdcc. I've decided to quit complaining about what we get compared to what we should have gotten. That is no way to live. I was so worried about building my minifig scale helms deep and buying uruk-hai armies that i didn't even get the whole first wave of lotr in time before they disappeared. I love the laketown soldier and sigil on the shield. Good, good things IMO are coming. Quote
Wardancer Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I've decided to quit complaining about what we get compared to what we should have gotten. That is no way to live. That is wise! I completely overlooked the snow in the set. Must have been blinded by the figs. Quote
kermit Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 The lake town has a nice priate feel to it especially the wide use of the reddish brown pieces. Are the two buildings meant to be apart or do they join up? Quote

_miles_ Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Since i passed on the Warg set I think i'll pick up this set for Thorin, and the rest of those lovely figs. Isn't anyone annoyed Bilbo is the same old? I'd have liked to see some new face printing, at the very least. Doesn't detract from the overall set, however. Quote
N7LEGO Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) I'm sure we'll have Azog (white) on the next wave. They can't make us wait more because: 1- We didn't have it in the first wave 2- We've seen him at the last Comic Con They should know now that we are waiting for this minifig. But if we have him, will we have Smaug ? They will offer us 2 bad guys in the same wave ? I think Smaug will be like the Balrog: in the 3rd wave. Edited July 23, 2013 by N7LEGO Quote
