Darth Malgus Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I think the Beorn fig will depend a lot more on cost. It's undeniable that Beorn will need to be a bigger minifig, possibly using the Toy Story fig parts, or something more. That means that it may cost more to include both versions in one set. So we may not see his bear form till TABA sets. Perhaps they may just use something similar to Hagrad, they may just use the bear from the city sets 2 years ago as well for the transformation, would be roughly the right scale... Quote
just2good Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 So we're looking at at least 5 new sets? And that's not including the Mirkwood spider nor the Barrel Escape? It's not confirmed that they're not including those, so let's say at least three new sets. Quote
deskp Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 So we're looking at at least 5 new sets? And that's not including the Mirkwood spider nor the Barrel Escape? I think it would be weird if those 2 were included in the count. Just 3 new sets for the hobbit 2013 would be odd. Quote

I was just going to say, Beorn will probably take 2 new molds. His human form probably ala Hagrid and his Bear form which would need to be larger than the Worgs, so easily 2x the size of the City bear. Quote
Leo604 Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I'm not sure if we went over this in like the last 20 pages or not, but do you guys think TLG might do something similar and release 2 of the new Hobbit sets that are directly based on TABA, like Mirkwood Spiders and Barrel Escape at this last year? Sorry if we did talk about this before, I'm ridiculously tired right now and the last few pages of the thread have been kind of all over the place. Quote

I think theres no reason for them to do it, they've had plenty of time to make new sets. Quote

Sorry if we did talk about this before, I'm ridiculously tired right now and the last few pages of the thread have been kind of all over the place. I just asked this question on the previous page! But I think we're scratching our heads on that one. Can't imagine it would be part of the new wave...and not sure if Lego would put in another order or if they've done that for any other set for that matter. I was just going to say, Beorn will probably take 2 new molds. His human form probably ala Hagrid and his Bear form which would need to be larger than the Worgs, so easily 2x the size of the City bear. Wow! Didn't know in Beorn's bear form that he would be that big. Haven't read the book so I figured he would be the size of a regular bear. Quote
matticus Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Beorn bear size. Movie size: Funny, I didn't realize It was that big in the trailer. Guess I didn't focus on how he compared to Dwalin bracing the door. Guess it's safe to say we'll see a Dol Guldur set too? Could be a neat set. Quote
N7LEGO Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 For Dol Guldur, maybe we could have something like "Attack on the Weathertop". Something "massive" and "rocky" Quote
SandMirror38 Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Just brought Attack of the wargs (great set btw) and the strangest thing happened! Looked like lego accidentally put a prototype Azog in the set, not sepreatly but the head was in bag 1 and so on.. will post a pic ASAP! (though it looks painted :/) Anyone else had this? Quote

Gryphon Ink Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I've been wondering how they would handle Beorn. Until the movie teaser was released, I assumed he would be a Hagrid-sized human and a normal brown bear. But in the teaser, his bear form is ridiculously oversized. Peter Jackson just seems to want to make everything bigger than it should be. If he really is that big in the movie and it's not just an optical illusion, the brown bear mold is just not going to cut it. So I wonder if they will just not make Beorn in bear form, or if there will be a new giant bear mold. Quote
Mutant Orc Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Good question. Off the top of my head I don't know of many sets that have both identities of one character in a set. All I know of right now is the Batcaves with Bruce Wayne and Batman. No Banner in the Hulk set and no Harley Quinn, just Harleen Quinzel, in the Arkham set. Pirates of the Caribbean- Isla de Muerta. It had two variations of Barbossa, and it was only £20 Quote

8BrickMario Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Hmm..I'm having a hard time believing this. If it's true, then the pictures need to be seen. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I remember in POTC when someone ordered a replacement part for Hadras and got Maccus instead. He was from the upcoming Black Pearl set that didn't come out until a few months later. Quote

Eurolock Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) After dinner! It's definetly azog How long does it take to eat dinner.....? With regards the size of Beorn's bear form...it could depend on how angry he is. In the description of The Battle of Five Armies it says "...and he seemed to have grown almost to giant-size in wrath. " The Lego city bear would have to be a mildly displeased Beorn as opposed to the absolutely furious Beorn trying to break through the door in the trailer.... Edited July 24, 2013 by Eurolock Quote

In the description of The Battle of Five Armies it says "...and he seemed to have grown almost to giant-size in wrath. " Good catch, but I always interpreted that more figuratively, a bit like the Orcs thinking Sam must be an enormous Elf warrior in ROTK. You're probably right, though, as PJ usually gives very literal interpretations to what Tolkien wrote. Quote
