Albus Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Apart from Brickipedia, and that video earlier on, is there any evidence that these are the sets we will be seeing? I mean, the video is pretty beleivable, but I just think that the chosen sets are very odd choices for LEGO's second wave of LOTR. The Battle at the Black Gate is greatly overshadowed by the Battle of Pelennor Fields in the movie, especially since by the Black Gate, the audience is more interested in what is happening behind the gates, with Frodo and Sam. Same with the Corsair ship, they seem to have been selected from the more obscure parts of ROTK. I would have expected an Orthanc as the flagship set, as it is more iconic and memorable. The first rumoured sets actually seemed more beleivable to me (with Isengard, the Balrog etc). Of course, if there really are going to be a similar number of sets as the first wave, 7 or 8, then hopefully the inclusion of other more iconic locations will make the choice of these particular ROTK sets less odd. I just think he wave as we know it features some very odd choices if they are going to be the only sets... I agree, a Rivendell would look great as an exclusive. Full of arches, stairways, platforms and walkways, many trees (autumnal coloured of course), the area where the council takes place. I would imagine it coming with: Elrond, Arwen, Aragorn, Frodo, Bilbo, Boromir, Gandalf, maybe some Elves etc. That would be cool! Quote

You are thinking of set choices with an eye towards being a LotR fan. We need to view them through the filter of being Lego fans. Not just what are iconic scenes, but also what can be reasonably done as Lego sets? What do they excel at? What sorts of things work well in Lego? Viewed in that way the Corsair ship set makes a ton of sense. (It blends both traditional Castle fans with Pirate fans all built on the core Literary themes. And it has a broad minifig choice built in.) the only puzzling thing with their choices is how they seem to be dancing around Minas Tirith. I assume the Black Gate set may be based more on minifig options and distinctive set colors. Quote
Lordof theBricks Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Giys,I have awesome idea,You know that they actually made in the first wawe Helm'sdeep set,and the battle pack for Helm's deep.Of CourseYou know,so,why they don't make the same thoing for the Black Gate? In The Black Gate set,I really want to see: -Mouth of Sauron -Aragorn in Gondorian armor -Gandalf the White -Merry in Rohan armor -Pippin in Gondorian armor -Olog-Hai But in the Battle pack: -3X Mordor orcs in armor (every orc different) http://cache.lego.com/media/nxtlog/0e4b7d55-26df-4132-a4ab-d22bcee9f965/640x480/Snapshot_20120705_5.JPG second http://cache.lego.com/media/nxtlog/a40e1dec-a613-4344-ba6b-021a9473047d/640x480/Snapshot_20120828_9.JPG third http://cache.lego.com/media/nxtlog/c3c47a9f-9d30-41e5-b26a-dfa6f5bdc191/640x480/Snapshot_20120828_18.JPG -1x Gondorian soldier with helmet, armor, shield and spear http://cache.lego.com/media/nxtlog/397a16e7-4628-4bd1-973e-5d162517a82f/640x480/Snapshot_20120705_1.JPG -Rohan captain http://cache.lego.com/media/nxtlog/76001868-2f65-47a7-85cc-cd413ff6ec89/640x480/Snapshot_20120717_3.JPG -Rohirrim soldier http://cache.lego.com/media/nxtlog/0fa3d1aa-ddd1-4726-9b53-cfd0183eb53a/640x480/Snapshot_20120828_1.JPG These are all my creations Quote
sup2yous Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Cool designs the rohirrim captain looks awesome Quote
Mahtion Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Great designs on the minifigs! If you made some Rivendell Elf Riders from the Hobbit or an armored Elrond in the reddish tinge armor that would be cool and much appreciated! Also wouldnt we want two Gondor soldiers in the battle pack with one Rohirrim? We already got Eomer and Rohirrim in Uruk-Hai set, let Gondor shine. ;) Quote

It would be better to keep the Rohan Captain, and replace the Rohirrim soldier with a Gondor archer or something. And give one of the orcs a bow as well. But I love the idea of that set. Get multiples, and LEGO then wouldn't need to go out of their way to make Pellennor Battle Packs, because we'll already have a decent way of building up those armies. Quote

General Magma Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Those are some good ideas, and great designs. I'm just wondering what other contents a set like that might have, though... The hooded Rohan soldier reminds me of a custom I did, not long ago: Edited December 26, 2012 by General Magma Quote

Infernum Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 I would use that for Pelennor fields battle pack :) Well, Lego isn't doing one sided battle packs anymore. They could throw in 2 Orcs, a warg, and take away two Rohirirm and call it Warg Attack Battle Pack. That's what I'd do. Quote

General Magma Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) "Find a random co-worker, tell him "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!" and he will probably say "get out of my way, Gandalf."" haha Thanks, we've been waiting for this news regarding the LOTR/Hobbit sets of 2013 for months! But now, the news you've all really been waiting for... Here are the first pictures of next year's LOTR summer wave: http://www.flickr.co...90/in/contacts/ Wizard Duel Saruman and Gandalf the Grey Council of Elrond Elrond, Arwen, Frodo and a dwarf (Gimli?) The Black Gate Aragorn (Gondorian outfit), Gandalf the White, Mouth of Sauron and 2 soldiers (presumably orcs, but I hope Gondorians) Corsair Ship Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, King of the Dead, 2 Corsair soldiers (both different), Corsair captain, 2 Corsair soldiers Compared to my set ideas (from the Future LOTR/Hobbit sets, December 2011): Saruman's Betrayal Minifigs: Gandalf the Grey and Saruman. Components and scenery: Palantír holder, Saruman's chair/throne and an entrance gate. Arrival in Rivendell Minifigs: Frodo (no coat), Bilbo (old, no coat), Elrond, Boromir, (no cape), Arwen (dress) and Aragorn (Rivendell clothing). Components and scenery: The location for the Council of Elrond, with several chairs, some sort of round block in the middle with the ring on it, walls around the place with a baloncy at the end, and a door or staircase somewhere leading away from it. As for the part of the movie where Bilbo is, there could be a loose bit with part of a balcony and a door leading into some sort of apartment. The Black Gate Minifigs: Aragorn (Gondorian outfit), Éomer, Mouth of Sauron, 2 orc soldiers, 1 Rohirrim soldier, 1 Gondorian soldier and an armored troll. Components and scenery: The Black Gate itself in a pretty large scale, Brego (Aragorn's horse), Mouth of Sauron's black horse and maybe some scenery to add to it. Paths of the Dead Minifigs: Aragorn (ranger clothes), Gimli, Legolas, 2 Dead Men of Dunharrow, The King of the Dead, 1 Corsair captain and 1 Corsair spearman. Components and scenery: One of the Corsair ships of Umbar with sails and Paths of the Dead cave entrance with some skulls. Edited December 26, 2012 by General Magma Quote

Ceroknight Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Love the Wizard Battle because it seems to be a cheap way to get Gandalf and Saruman, also like the look of The Council of Elrond Not so sure about the two bigger sets. Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 It is a shame the black gate has no soldiers of Gondor, other wise it is a good set. The corsair ship does not interest me but I will probably end up getting all the other sets. Quote
Mr_Malfoy Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) I love all these sets. My favorites so far are the Black Gate and Council of Elrond. EDIT: did anyone else see the light brick function on the Black Gate set? It looks like they smushed the Black Gate and Barad-Dur together. Edited December 26, 2012 by Mr_Malfoy Quote
The Legonater Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 The Wizard Battle, although not the Orthanc we wanted, is still an amazing set, thanks to a very cheap way to get Saruman. The Black Gate also looks great, though the apparent lack of Gondor soldiers disappoints me. We better get one before Part 3 of the Hobbit comes out, or I fear we'll never see one at all. The Corsair ship looks decent as well, depending on the cost. As for the Council of Elrond, I'll wait for better pics before I make a decision. EDIT: did anyone else see the light brick function on the Black Gate set? It looks like they smushed the Black Gate and Barad-Dur together. I don't see any such function, but that tower on the side of the gate is really part of the Black Gate. It should be on both ends, really, but I'm not surprised LEGO stuck to one. Quote
