Dol Guldur is mentionned just one or two times in the book and there is no action in this place. Just a couple of words about Gandalf going there but it will be an important part of the movie so that's why we'll have it in sets. I really don't understand why 2 sets of this place in a same wave...

I don't think reading the book would help your speculation much, Kez. :classic: The movie deviates so much that it is only based on The Hobbit. Anyway, I could see the Dol Guldur Ambush featuring Thrain attacking Gandalf (the trailer indicated Thrain jumping Gandalf... literally).

Battle Packs are always welcome. At the very least it gives me hope for a Gondor army pack next year. I don't care too much, but for Deskp's sake alone, I hope it would include Thranduil.

Dol Guldur Battle could include Galadriel (she tore down the walls of Dol Guldur in the book), Radagast, Gandalf, Elrond and the Necromancer. If we see the Witch King of Angmar, I doubt that he looks as you'd hope for (i.e. no crowned helmed and dressed in black, but rather as a ghostly image).

 Thanks for that, it'd be nice to see the witch king especially but if he's still in ghostly form thats still good, as long as we get him. :classic: A Gondor battle pack would be great assuming that there is a 3rd LOTR wave next year (fingers crossed) and I certainly look forward to seeing the images of the new hobbit sets like most of us are, hopefully it won't be too long assuming we have gotten the correct list already.

Personally I haven't read the books but could the dol guldur battle come with the witch king of angmar, radagast, some orcs, maybe giant spiders? Im not too sure, but Im looking forward to more on the elf army, it could be a battle pack (like the Uruk hai wall) and could include a mixture of elfs and orcs assuming this list is true :classic:

There is no battle of dol guldur explanation in the Hobbit book... so hard to say

I doubt Elrond ever took place in the battle.... not sure though.... 4 good guys vs 1 Sauron/Necromancer... besides I think the Necromancer has no real form because Sauron reveals himself AFTER he fakes retreat in his form...

If the list Kez found is correct it seems we may not get Smaug, Which would be a shame considering he is in the name of the new movie!

I find a few things suspicious about lake town...

1) It says CHASE suggesting something is after them

2) Even with lego's less than brilliant PPP ratio £49.99 would be insane, So they may be keeping something from us.

3) Lego isn't going to get a major character slip through without being built, Otherwise what sort of business people would they be?

4) We haven't yet seen a box so there could be more to it.

I believe we have only seen the buildings of lake town, And at the last minute they will show us that smaug is actually in there.

My theory is probably rubbish but its something to consider anyway.

I agree @The Joker1 it does say chase, so whether the dwarf, hobbit and bard are being chased through laketown by the guard which I doubt, but there might be smaug included, maybe lego wasnt allowed to showcase of smaug because it might violate their licensing agreements, although it does seem like a small piece count for £50 so maybe lego might include smaug? Which would be great if they did. Also bilbo is wearing the one ring and there seems to be a moving wall on that other armoury building where the guard is standing, maybe it knocks the barrel with fish in over to distract the guard.

@Alcarin ah right, well we never know what lego might do then, hopefully its a big scene in the film so we might get lots of minifigures (hopefully for a £70 price point) :classic:

As far as I remember, the necromancer at Dol Guldur is Sauron and not the Witch King.

The Witch-King did make an appearance in the previous film as the ghost that fought Radagast. I don't know if we'll see much of him in the next movie, but it would be nice to have a figure of him in his ghostly form. Especially since we missed out on getting him in the Weathertop set.

Ah well, Id still love a sauron figure and if I remember in the film the witch kings ghost was present, maybe Peter Jackson's changing the Story a bit :classic:

The ghost that fought Radagast turns out to be Sauron. Not the witch-king. I just re-read the silmarillon.

I think that we will see the witch-king in an long awaited Nazgul/Fellbeast/Ringwraith/Eowyn set.

It isn't, I'm afraid. Sauron (aka the Necromancer) is the dark ghostly humanoid shape we see when Radagast says "I saw...him!" and flees Dol Guldur. The White wraith that fought Radagast from whom he got the Morgul Blade is the Witch King.

Okay, if this set list is correct, and we are getting six sets, two obvious omissions we are still waiting on are Beorn's Halls and Erebor. I would have thought it was far more likely that Dol Guldur Ambush (probably Gandalf and Thrain) would be an £11.99 set in the vein of Riddles for the Ring and Gandalf Arrives.

Mirkwood Elf Army, possibly Thranduil vs. Azog here? Only place so far I can think either of these would fit.

Dol Guldur Battle must refer to the White Council against the Necromancer's stronghold. I'd expect Gandalf, Saruman, Elrond, Galadriel, Radagast and Bolg to appear here in the film, so minifigs from these characters.

Didnt Sauron lost all transformation power after Numenor island (Anadune) was sunk with him ???

I always thought (when i read) that Sauron was a ''ghost'' called the Necromancer and fake flees from Dol Guldur to Mordor and reveals himself and take his form back.

The Nazguls were sent there AHEAD of his time to prepare him his ''home'' for his glorious return.

Thats how its read from the books.

There is no battle with the Nazguls let alone the Witch king in Dol Guldur.... according to the story of Tolkien. There is also no good indication that Elrond took part in ANY battle AFTER the battle at the end of the 2nd age (with Isildur and the last alliance) so pushing him in that set is weird at the least.

All we know is that the White COuncil granted an allowance to gather army and assault Dul Guldur where Sauron fake fled and let them win and exposed himself in Barad-Dur (Mordor) again. Gandalf is mentioned to be away on an errand (in Hobbit timeline and book) to participate in the assault, but Saruman or Elrond were never mentioned (no idea for Galadriel but i guess she took part)

I'm afraid it is against the law for any information not from LOTR or TH to appear in the films. So anything from the Silmarrillion, unless explicitly mentioned in either LOTR of TH is not within the rights.

I believe Hugo Weaving confirmed he was in a large battle, whether or not it was Dol Guldur or not remains to be seen, there is an outside chance they put him in BO5A but I doubt that highly. Gandalf, Galadriel and I think Radagast are confirmed to be there, so it follows that Saruman (probably CGI a lot of it) would be there too.

I think your last paragraph is blending the Attack on Dol Guldur, when Sauron was driven out with Galadriel destroying the castle after Sauron's defeat. The first battle featured Gandalf, Galadriel, Saruman and possibly a small army of Elves. The second which happened during the fourth age features Galadriel leading the Lorien elves to destroy the place.

In other words... its no longer A hobbit story but a made up Peter Jackson story....

I can feel I'll dislike it even more than the first movie then... too much made up stuff to be accepted by the true Tolkien fans...

I wonder why people are so greedy that they want cash from franchise and not do it proper.... wait for kids to soften up or their children sell you the rights :P

Still though .... Hobbit never mentioned anything about anyone taking part in battle so ye.... its all made up material or picked from other tolkien works then...

Unless I'm mistaken, we do know from the books that not all of the Nazgul were present at Dol Guldur. The scenes in FOTR where all nine of them are chasing the hobbits are seen as an unprecedented event. I believe the Witch King is already supposed to be in Minas Morgul at this time. But really even the most educated guesses are not necessarily what Tolkien had planned. It's all extrapolation based on his notes and a few lines in LOTR. Even the Silmarillion was published posthumously and is to a large extent the work of Christopher Tolkien and Guy Gavriel Kay, working from JRRT's notes. There's no final, definitive history straight from the author for what happened in the battle of Dol Guldur.

Nope. He just lost the ability to assume a "fair" form, as he did whilst "prisoner" of Ar-Pharazon. He can still assume evil forms.

Tolkien himself outright sold the movie rights to the Hobbit and LotR's back around 1968 or so. He washed his hands of it all back then for a lump sum payout when he was alive. His family is mad because he studios don't have to soften them up or pay them exorbitant amounts for any further rights.

As far as this list? I'll keep a healthy dose of skepticism until we get some confirmation. The names don't seem right to me. Lego is normally keenly aware to keep each product in a release wave distinct. "Dol Guldur Ambush" and "Dol Guldar Battle" are just way to similar to be actual Lego set names. They are good at avoiding confusion in sku's. a similar issue pops up with "Mirkwood Elf Army". Remember when you see this on most retail shelves that title gets shortened to Mirkwood and a price. But if the Mirkwood Spiders set is still in the channel? These might be right, or they might be weird mistranslations of the actual titles, but they don't quite feel right for actual Lego set names. If that makes any sense?

Although technically Jackson can't directly take from the Silmarillian or Unfinished Tales, he has been taking 'inspiration' from them. That said, a few details need to be changed so that he isn't sued, and that's why some details are messed up, like the timeline and why the Witch-King is at Dol Guldur instead of Minas Ithil.

I feel pretty certain that we're missing a set on there. There has to be a Smaug set, it wouldn't make sense for LEGO to not use him.

Posted

I always assumed that we'd see the battle of the 5 armies in this movie and that the third one would mostly be a made-up story.

However, judging by the name of those sets, it seems it will be the other way round.

Posted (edited)

If those sets are the real ones this is what I think of them:

79011 Dol Guldur Ambush £19.99- This one doesn't sound that good. There is a larger Dol Guldur set on the list already so why is there this one? Unless if it's an Uruk-hai wall styled set I think I'll be passing on this one.

79012 Mirkwood Elf Army £29.99- This is the one I'm the most excited for! Hopefully we'll get some Elves that aren't Legolas or Tauriel and some Orcs!

79013 Lake Town Chase £49.99- We already know about it but we don't know why it is called the Lake Town Chase.

79014 Dol Guldur Battle £69.99- This one should also be good. Hopefully it will include Ragadast and Gladriel :sweet:

Also, I now think Smaug will be in the next wave of sets. Since there shouldn't be that much happening in the next film this could be a good opportunity to make Smaug.

Hmm, not sure I believe this list. I agree with Faefrost on the names. And no Beorn's house or Erebor would be a disappointment. Only four sets too...

If it's true I'm just glad this list isn't as confusing as the LOTR list with the Eagles nest.

I most definitely agree with what has been said before: only four sets, two of them Dol Guldur- based and no Smaug set? Sounds somewhat fishy :sceptic: Azog, Bolg, Radagast, Thranduil and Galadriel all sound realistic and would be highly welcomed ( ), but I couldn't forgive them for not releasing a set based on Smaug as he most certainly doesn't survive the second movie and thus wouldn't appear in a set next year :hmpf_bad: Or perhaps they'll save him up for a D2C set, but TLG has never released one of these for a brand-new movie...

"79011 Dol Guldur Ambush £19.99

79012 Mirkwood Elf Army £29.99

79013 Lake Town Chase £49.99

79014 Dol Guldur Battle £69.99"

At first glance its not the most inspiring of lists tbh....if it is indeed accurate. In particular it would appear to be remarkably thin wrt the main story of Bilbo's journey/adventure.

Why would we need a Mirkwood elf 'army' for DOS? Based on the trailer they are only dealing with a small band of Azog's orcs...not a large scale battle......unless of course the Mirkwood elves are involved in the Dol Guldor battle and the 'Mirkwood elf army' is an 'add-on' to the 'Dol Guldor Battle' similar to the Uruk hai army set.

As others have mentioned the apparent lack of Beorn in this wave would be very disappointing (unless he turns out to be part of the 'Dol Guldor battle 'in Jacksons version of events...and kills Bolg at Dol Guldor rather than BOFA?). More importantly, the omission of Smaug seems very suspicious. I simply cannot believe that Lego would fail to make Smaug for DOS. We have seen Smaug in the trailer, Peter Jackson confirmed that the dwarves have some sort of battle/encounter with Smaug at Erebor, Lego dragon have sold well in the past and he would add some much needed diversity to the line....it seems a complete 'no-brainer'. But why then would a seemingly leaked list be incomplete?

The set list would however appear suitable for the purposes of delivering a wide range of minifigures.....Thranduil, Azog, Radagast, Nazgul/witch king, Thrain, Galadriel, Bolg, Bard, Master of laketown could all be readily accomodated. So at least in that respect in would be a good line-up.

This is what I thought at first that lake town would come with smaug and I made some of the same points but I was persuaded that it was very unlikely.

But I did not think about the box, we saw the box for the Lego Movie set so why not for lake town? Im starting to believe again.

I am also liking the lake town set more than I did at first even if that's all we get. There is a lot to like just not the price.

The list must at best be incomplete as I am sure we will get a £11.99 set
