Faefrost Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 I must be alone, but that Corsair ship looks great. I also love the council of Elrond set. Quote
Legomaster34 Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Wow! All four of those sets look great, and I'll definitely be getting them when they come out! Arwen! Does anybody know the prices for these sets? I don't see them listed in the picture, but I may just not be able to see them... Quote
General Magma Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 I must be alone, but that Corsair ship looks great. I also love the council of Elrond set. Not alone. Rohi- oh wait... Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Thank you for sharing, General Magma! These all look fantastic!! My only complaint is that there are only 4 sets. Surely there must be more...? Quote
Mahtion Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Thanks finally we get some pics! I was mostly right about the minifig counts and included characters. See not only do we not get Rohirrim we get no Gondor soldiers either. That is surprising. Also no Shadowfax or Brego, only Mouth of Sauron gets a steed, not fair lol. Also looks like an elven harp with the blue robed elf (Arwen or lindir?). Something golden looking in their hand. Edited December 26, 2012 by Mahtion Quote
Javert Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 oh wow! The Council of Elrond better have Elrond, I missed him thanks to the polybag promotion and the scalpers at my local Game store... The Wizard's battle is a MUST for me! Christopher Lee in minifigure form and he's a fleshie? That's enough for me! xD The black gate looks awesome and shows that the LEGO group are also looking at the extended editions! :D (It comes with the Mouth of Sauron, so someone will probably make a LEGO version of the Mouth of Sauron sings the Ding Dong Song video before long...) The Ship looks a bit meh, but no doubt I'll get it since I'm a completionist! Quote
Climperoonie Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Fantastic! Loving the lineup here, even the Corsair Ship (Who can say no to all them minfigs?! ) Perhaps we're only getting four sets because we're getting some battlepacks? Maybe just wishful thinking but seems like a logical train of thought... Quote
Haltiamieli Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Is this it? Is this all you can conjure, Lego? Seems like they are still shying away from all the molds that Gondorians etc. would require? Hopefully they will be the centre of the next LotR wave when it comes. If it comes. Council of Elrond Elrond, Arwen, Frodo and a dwarf (Gimli?) It's Gimli, in the cover picture he's flying away from the Ring pedestal with his axe. Play feature, I suppose. Corsair Ship Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, King of the Dead, 2 Corsair soldiers (both different), Corsair captain, 2 Corsair soldiers In the front cover Legolas and others are attacking from the ship against orcs. So there doesn't seem to be any actual corsairs included: Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, King of the Dead, two other Dead guys, one lead orc (looks a bit strange, could possibly be a lonely corsair) and two companions for him. Quote
Lordof theBricks Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 It is to bad we don't get Gloin in old version in Council of Elrond set, because that was the only chance :/ Quote
Mahtion Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Wow I was more on the money than I thought. I suggested Wizard battle would be small with just Saruman and Gandalf with Palantir room. Also Council of Elrond would have Gimli breaking axe on ring altar play feature and look it does! It seems easy to figure out what Lego will do with these sets when you look at the patterns of release and piece counts. Most obviously Council of Elrond will be a Toysrus exclusive. Hopefully Aragorn will have a new Rivendell print with Council of Elrond but I doubt it. Interesting that Council of Elrond comes with a weapons rack complete with an Elven great sword. So now we get Gimli in two sets this wave, Legolas once, and Aragorn three times, Frodo only once as well. Wish frodo had a new print in this set. Another observation, looks like Lego used the same arch technique I used in my Forlindon MOC. Quote
TheBrickDaddy Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Not alone. Rohi- oh wait... I see whatcha did there I agree, I think the Corsair ship is surprisingly appealing- Lego does love to release 'vehicles,' so I'm not surprised they chose this instead of a large land battle. Still would love a Minas Tirith though- wishful thinking Quote
Mahtion Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Just noticed Council of Elrond doesn't have the trees with autumn colored leaves like in the Lego game's bonus level. Hmm strange, would have loved some orange leaves, do any exist in Lego? Quote
Masked Builder Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Well, I love what I'm seeing, we'll see what LEGO does here. But I do plan on getting each and every one. That set border look WEIRD! That would be the eye. Just noticed Council of Elrond doesn't have the trees with autumn colored leaves like in the Lego game's bonus level. Hmm strange, would have loved some orange leaves, do any exist in Lego? No, dark red yes. But, there are some custom dealer parts. Quote

Actually, I think there are dark orange leaves in the Council of Elrond set. If you look towards the back of the platform, a little to the right of Arwen it looks like there's a tree with orange leaves on it. They seem a bit darker than the regular orange, but that may just be me. Quote
Mahtion Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 (edited) I'll have to check for those leaves, thanks! Very odd that Lego wouldn't have reused the White horse from Lone ranger to use for Shadowfax in Black gate set. I mean these are preliminary sets, Saruman is bald but still seems like a missed opportunity. I don't see any leaves near Arwen, right of her is a weapon rack with a golden elven sword but to the right of frodo looks like there are some orange leaves used on a structure attached to the building. Look very far right almost to the edge of the box. Edited December 27, 2012 by Mahtion Quote
Slobey Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 (edited) I have to say I'm pretty happy with this offering especiallly as LEGO are splitting thier resources between the Hobbit and LOTR. The larger sets lend themselves to multiples too. 2 x black gates to complete it and who wouldn't want a fleet of Corsairs. The wizard duel also leaves room for a UCS Orthanc...... Haltiamieli Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Hopefully Aragorn will have a new Rivendell print with Council of Elrond but I doubt it. I don't think there's Aragorn in Council of Elrond, just Elrond (obviously), Arwen (blue dress), Frodo and Gimli. Quote

The_Chosen_1 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 There are definitely reddish orange leaves there. I can't tell if they're the same color as those in the Mirkwood Spiders set, or if they're a bit lighter than that. Quote
Mahtion Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 They blend in a bit with the background of the packaging. And they're a bit further to the right of Arwen, past the weapon rack. I finally see the tree! My eyes just had to adjust to perceive that layer. It looks like it could be attaché to the base of the platform. That looks great and works well having the tree hang over the council set piece. Yeah I realized that there is no Aragorn sadly, I had feared we would only get Council Elrond, Arwen, definitely Gimli and of course Frodo. In this case I wasn't completely thinking in Lego business terms when I thought we would get a slightly larger Rivendell. I had a feeling it would be around the same price point $39.99 and piece count as the past exclusives. Quote
CMP Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Tough to see, but interesting to finally have something to discuss! Wizard Battle I'm probably getting, if only on account of Saruman. At least this Gandalf comes with hair. Council of Elrond; definitely. I see Arwen on the left, someone I'm assuming is Elrond, and two shorter figures that I desperately hope are a Rivendell Frodo and Old Bilbo... Nice parts, too. Black Gate is intriguing. I see Aragorn with a cape (hopefully it's a prelim and he'll end up in Gondor gear) Gandalf the White, Mouth of Sauron ( ) and a pair of orcs. Set itself looks...interesting, I guess. Pirate Ship Ambush is an automatic yes. Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, King of the Dead and two unique dead soldiers looks cool. I see at least one Corsair, but the last two figs just look like orcs. Oh well. Hopefully this'll be my first LEGO ship. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I love that we're getting some obscure characters that I wasn't sure we'd ever see in minifig form (e.g., Mouth of Sauron, King of the Dead, Corsairs). I think it bodes well for the line's future. Quote

On the box art it shows Aragorn etc. coming off the boat attacking orcs(?) which I assume is recreating the scene when they arrive at Minis Tirith. Was the movie scene when they captured the ships only in the extended edition? Then again the Mouth of Sauron was only in the extended edition as well.............. Quote
Venkefedo Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I love that we're getting some obscure characters that I wasn't sure we'd ever see in minifig form (e.g., Mouth of Sauron, King of the Dead, Corsairs). I think it bodes well for the line's future. Doesn't look like there's any Corsairs... just orcs and some soldiers for the King of the Dead. One orc is lighter in the lineup, and seems to be the olive-type one kinda rearing back near the right of the box art. So a Moria orc, in skin color anyway (it seems; maybe it's the Mordor Orc color), probably meant to represent the lieutenant from the docks who chides the ship for being late (on the upside, it's another Orc-ear hairpiece... on the downside, no special hairpiece allowing a skull to be plopped on top. The other two are likely Uruk-Hai or other new dark orcs. Overall these are pretty neat! I imagine there's some 'missing' sets (at least one exclusive, and hopefully a few SW-style Battlepacks, ideally with a SINGLE faction in each, with Rohirrim & Gondor soldiers aplenty!). I hope we get better pics soon, and that Saruman gets some hair! Quote
