BrickBob Studpants Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 (edited) I'm still not sure whether I'd prefer Azog to stay tan (thus making the SDCC one exclusive) or to have him in white. On one hand, a tan one would be fair so everyone has the chance to get one, but on the other hand, I'd really feel bad for the people who dished out hundreds of dollars for a fig they could get for 5-10$ on bricklink later this year I think TLG should have cleared up the situation right there at SDCC (like they did in 2011 with the Superheroes minifigs). It really wouldn't have been much of a spoiler (I mean everyone knows that Azog's gonna be in DOS) and it would have prevented people from feeding money to greedy opportunistic sellers Edited September 3, 2013 by Lego-Freak Quote
wesker Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I'm just surprised Azog is so popular among Lego collectors, especially after many considered him to be one of the weaker parts of the Hobbit film. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 ^ It's not the character himself so much as the sheer rarity of the minifigure that's appealing. Quote
deskp Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I'm just surprised Azog is so popular among Lego collectors, especially after many considered him to be one of the weaker parts of the Hobbit film. I accepted movie Azog more after he became a minifigure. Not quite sure how that works, but it did. Quote
Deathleech Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I'm just surprised Azog is so popular among Lego collectors, especially after many considered him to be one of the weaker parts of the Hobbit film. I dunno if he was disliked due to the fact he was a weaker part of the movie, or moreso the fact that PJ pretty much created the whole character since... He is dead before the Hobbit book even begins At any rate, I agree, I think Lego Azog is only popular due to his rarity. Maybe it's a mixture of that and so far he is the only main antagonist in the first film? Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Well I like both the minifig and its movie counterpart mainly for the character's design I don't know why, but I just like characters with prosthetics, be it cybernetic replacements and the like (or simply characters with asymmetrical designs) And I might be in the minority here, but I think Azog is a great addition to AUJ since he's a legitimate threat and the only major villain that has any dealings with the protagonists (apart from the Goblin King, who is more an obstacle than anything). While the same was done in FOTR with Lurtz, in my opinion it works better in AUJ since it adds a conflict that is superior to the one in the book. Bolg wanting revenge on the dwarves isn't a bad conflict per se, but it isn't really that personal since Thorin wasn't directly involved in Azog's death, while the one we get in the movie is highly personal due to both Thorin and Azog desiring revenge on each other, which makes it much more interesting, at least IMO Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 (edited) Sorry for the double post, but allaboutbricks gives us this rumor set list: 79011 Elrond Battle 79012 Elven Outpost 79013 Market Escape with Boat 79014 Dol Guldur Quite weird, it doesn't sound that much different from the list we already have, except we can now assume that Elrond is in the smallest set (instead of the biggest) and the Army set is now an outpost... Perhaps the one we see in the trailer getting ambushed by Azog And is it just me or does this version of 79013 sound really dumb? I hope it's just a mistranslation or something since "Laketown chase" sounds a gazillion times better than "Market Escape with Boat" And if 79014 is simply called "Dol Guldur", doesn't that imply that the scene depicted in 79011 doesn't take place in Dol Guldur? Well the only change here, seems to be that "dol guldur ambush" wich i assumed to be Orcs(or evil things) ambushed the good guys, now it seems it's Elrond who ambush someone else at dol guldor. If these names/descriptions are correct then that will kindof confirm elrond as part of dol guldur attack. (wich is the case in the book but the movie ahs said nothing of this yet) Hmm hope we still get Radagast somewhere. The naming would make it so "dol guldur" is the main fortress like helms deep, and Elrond Battle is the "uruk hai army" add on. Edited September 5, 2013 by deskp Quote

As this puts the total up to 5 sets with the addition of Elrond battle I assume that will be the £24.99 set, that means Dol Guldur ambush could turn out to be the £12.99 one which is missing from the line up, Elven outpost sounds like the final title for mirkwood elf army £39.99 Hopefully including azog! Market escape/lake town chase £49.99 then Dol Guldur is the £70-£80 flagship set perhaps. Perhaps there is more like maybe one more with smaug which could be the £59.99 one perhaps an exclusive like barrel escape but it fits into bag end price bracket. Explaining why it hasn't been rumoured for the retail list as it may be a Lego exclusive. Unless they are saving smaug til the December 2014 line. Radagast would most likely turn up in the Dol Guldur big set. The Elrond one being an add on is a good theory though. Edited September 5, 2013 by legofreak86 Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 @legofreak86: Well, it's still four sets, the set numbers wouldn't add up otherwise I wouldn't expect more than those four sets since there's been no mention of more in any of the rumor lists we've seen so far. Last year's barrel set was in the rumor list despite being an exclusive and besides, putting Smaug in an exclusive set would be anything but a smart move. I don't think Smaug's going to die in DOS with all the other events happening (especially the Dol Guldur battle), so I'd expect to see him in the final set wave next year Quote
Deathleech Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 (edited) Ya, these four sets have the same set numbers as the ones in the list leaked before: 79011 Dol Guldur Ambush 79012 Mirkwood Elf Army 79013 Lake Town Chase 79014 Dol Guldur Battle 79011 Elrond Battle 79012 Elven Outpost 79013 Market Escape with Boat 79014 Dol Guldur Everything seems to match up, except Elrond Battle which sounds significantly different than what everyone thought the Dol Guldur Ambush would have (Elrond and an orc instead of Gandalf/Radaghast/Thrain). Edited September 5, 2013 by Deathleech Quote
deskp Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 (edited) If the Elrond/ambush set is about Elrond doing an ambush, would it be fair to assume there would be another elf soldier with him and then 1 bad guy? 3 figs is the norm in 19 $/£ sets right? Could this be our chanse at a Rivendell guard/soldier !! ? Either way it's interesting it seems we'll end up with 3 diferent Erond figures overall. It could also be that whoever made up this new list mistook Thranduil for Elrond, one could hope! Edited September 5, 2013 by deskp Quote

Well, it seems to be a $20 set, so it gets three figures. I wonder what the other two will be besides Elrond. Edited September 6, 2013 by just2good Quote

Deathleech Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Ya, I am sure it will have at least 2-3 figures, my point was other than Elrond we have absolutely no idea what the other figs in the set will be. I dunno how likely an elf soldier is considering the Mirkwood Elf Army/Elven Outpost set. Quote
Fives Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 When should we likely see some pics? I'm thinking soon. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 If those titles are correct, I am getting more excited for this wave. Anything with more Elves is okay by me. Hopefully they would have elf hairpieces though. Quote

The elven outpost should feature atleast 1of the golden armored elves seen getting slaugthered in the trailer. http://www-images.theonering.org/torwp/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/thdos-trailer01-0481.jpgI just hope the orcs in this set are new prints. they can reuse the goblin legs no problem though! again IF they follow the uruk hai army formula of 6 minifigures then maybe: Azog + 2 generic orcs, 2 armored elves + 1 woodland guard Quote
Kez Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Oh, Im so eager for more information on these new sets, hopefully it won't be much longer for pictures and the updated rumour set list sounds pretty good, although I may only end up getting one or two sets as Im saving up for 2014 now Oh no, its true, just read this http://www.hothbricks.com/2013/09/nycc-2013-lego-sera-pas/ so we may see the sets at another lego convention now Quote

Last year we got that toys r us poster with all the set images before nycc time I think. Quote
