deskp Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I looked at the date of that Gizmodo article from last year about the AUJ sets, and it was Oct 13th. Other sites had the same pictures earlier than Gizmodo Quote
Legoman123 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 This is just in case you guys haven't see The Lake-Town Chase box art. http://www.lordofthebrick.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/lego-hobbit-79013.jpg Quote

legofreak86 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 That link does not work, but people can see the box art 2 pages back It worked for me! Its the box art slightly bigger plus the usual official picture of the set in it's entirety out of the box with a white background with the figures in front of the set lined up. This could be a sign that the rest of the official set images may be on their way soon. That is a hope not a statement. Quote
Deathleech Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 That isn't so much a 'Star Wars" thing as it is a "Large Sculpted Maxi Figures thing". The Dino Theme had similar price points for the same reason. The big figs eat up a lot of price and part volume. True. There is no doubt Jabba and the Rancor figs were the main reasons those sets were so high. Look at Mines of Moria or the Goblin King Battle though, both had a large molded figure that is unique to the set and both are still under 12 cents per piece, almost a third less than what the Rancor and Jabba's Palace are. Another example is Orthanc compared to the Ewok Village, Orthanc is well under 9 cents per piece while the Ewok Village is almost 13 cents (EV seems to have bigger pieces and more minifigs, but no large molded creatures like the Eagle Orthanc has). There is no denying that the Star Wars sets come with a premium compared to other license and themes because Lego knows the demand is there for them and they can get away with it. SW sets seem to, on average, hover around 13/14 ppp while other licenses like LotR/Hobbit are closer to 11/12 ppp. Of course there are some exceptions. Quote
Fives Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 So I'm assuming that if LEGO were to release new images today, they would've done it by now. Lets hope by the end of this weekend the reveal pics. Quote
Rogue Angel Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I would say LEGO has done an amazing job of keeping the new sets secret. For a while there we were getting leaked pictures a good 6 months in advance, and now we're maybe 2 months out and the only set revealed so far was planned. Quite remarkable in the internet age. Quote
Elrond Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I think it's worth saying again that 10th october last year was when we got images, and by the 11th I think they started revealing proper pictures on their website. This boxart indicates that atleast the overall reveal piriod has started x] Aren't they going to reveal those sets at the NY Comic-Con this weekend? Quote
just2good Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Aren't they going to reveal those sets at the NY Comic-Con this weekend? Nope, as LEGO isn't going to be there this year. Quote
aiori Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 The sets are more or less confirmed: German toy shop website spielwaren-kontor24.de has listed them in their shop. This is the site that posted pictures of the 2012 sets early last year, if I'm not wrong. No surprise here, there are exactly the 4 sets that have been rumoured before: 79011 Hinterhalt von Dol Guldur 26,99€ 79012 Duesterwald Elbenarmee 39,99€ 79013 Verfolgung auf dem Wasser 59,99€ 79014 Schlacht von Dol Guldur 79,99€ No details on piece count or minifigs. Release date is 1st Dec. 2013 Pictures will be published 1st Nov. 2013 So if no more pictures leak till then, this is the spot to point your eyes at. Quote
Fives Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 No new pics till November. Later than I'd hoped, but at least we now know when to expect them, and can rest our minds a bit. But the suspense is killing me! Quote
SMC Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 ^ but we still dont know as someone will post the pictures before November, I dont think we will wait too long. I hope the build for the big set is good and will get 1 large build not lots of small ones. Quote
Elrond Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Nope, as LEGO isn't going to be there this year. Oh, too bad. That looked like a good opportunity to reveal those sets. Quote
Fives Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I was reading about why LEGO won't be going to NYCC this year, and it's apparently because they spent most of that budget for the big X-Wing reveal in NY a few months back. Had they not done that, we'd likely be getting some new pics. But alas, LEGO had their priorities. Quote
deskp Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 (edited) they spent most of that budget for the big X-Wing reveal in NY a few months back. Interesting, I guess the star wars theme wasn't selling eough alrready . Edited October 11, 2013 by deskp Quote

Maybe LEGO could have someone reveal something for them, like in 2011 they had DC Comics reveal the batcave Quote
deskp Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Maybe LEGO could have someone reveal something for them I dont think WB or weta is there, the one ring.net is. But lego does not need the reveal to be at comic con, usually the important part is that they send it out to online news sites, variety.com etc. Quote
Infernum Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Quite remarkable in the internet age. Indeed. Especially since many people seem to have seen the catalogue. Maybe there's some new contract or something. Quote
deskp Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Maybe there's some new contract or something. I think it was last year that they started making people with the catalogue sign NDA's, Not that anyone was allowed to show the catalogue before that either. Quote
australopithecine Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Not that it really matters to me if I see the pictures early or not, I'll probably end up buying them all anyway. Quote
SMC Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Me too but I still want to see what I am going to buy as soon as I can Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Too bad we haven't heard any news so far, after the recent flood of information I was preparing to finally see something new Also it's weird we don't get to see any factory leaks this time around, DC Superheroes and Star Wars are apparently more popular with spies Quote
deskp Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Superheroes and Star Wars are apparently more popular with spies maybe they don't produce elements for the hobbit in the factory that usualy ends up leaking stuff? Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) @deskp: Last year, Bombur, Gloin and Tauriel (although with blonde hair) were leaked, which is why I'm bringing this up Now that you mention it, I think those were leaked from the Mexican factory whereas the recent minifigs were smuggled out of the Czech factory, so... Edited October 12, 2013 by Lego-Freak Quote
Faefrost Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I think it it's more last year was unexpectedly heavy with leaks and things walking out of the factory. More so then they had ever had happen before. TLG has probably taken steps to clamp down on both types of occurrences. The regular announcement schedule hasn't changed. They are just taking greater steps to prevent people from breaking their license contract reveal dates. Their efforts are probably more focused on the licensed properties, where they do have a contractual obligation regarding the schedule, then on their own in house properties. Which is why we have seen a few Ninjago and Chima leaks but very little LotR, Hobbit, TMNT and even Star Wars leaks (although there were a few glimpses of the SW catalog pages.) Quote
