Oh well three weeks isn't too much longer compared to the months it has been since we first saw the Laketown Chase set. If we do see some pics before November then that will a pleasant surprise!

I wonder if the Mirkwood Elf army set will be very much like Uruk-hai army in that a piece of a fortress wall will be included. We know the set will have an elven outpost but I wonder the size of the building.

I think that this set will represent the one in the trailer where Azog's orcs invade Mirkwood and break through some of Thranduil's elite guards only for the Elvenking himself to defend with his sword and later he passes judgment on the orc offenders as seen later in the vblog.

So the set will have either 1 or 2 archers and/or 1 or 2 armored swordsmen and then Thranduil. It would be great if the elven outpost or wall can be combined to form a long stone border for the Mirkwood Elven realm. Based on Lego's habits I would think the armor pieces would be given to only 1 or 2 elves not all 3. Even the Uruks didn't all have chestplate pieces in Uruk-Hai army.

The Outpost will probably be a curved wall like seen in the trailer with a small covered rampart or balcony which the Elves defend from. Maybe part of the wall be uncovered and the other will have a small roof.

I think LEGO wants to make atleast soemthing out of the reveal of the sets, not jsut releasing them to retailers. So I assume sometime before every retailer gets them, lego will send them out to news sites or AFOL communities.

A giant reveal would be cool, but I really doubt it. You never know though.

I'm sure lego could get some mainstream press by giving some media outlet the "exclusive first look" or something. I don't see why they wouldn't want some free marketing outside of just having the pictues show up in online stores.

Either way all we want is to see the pictures asap :hmpf_bad:

I agree that an actual release would be much better for TLG (and us  ). I just don't see it happening.

Indeed, but I believe the movie company itself has an embargo for picture releases to avoid spoilers and such.

Avoid spoilers like the ones we have already seen in the trailers they have released?

We have already seen Thranduil, the Mirkwood Elves, Gundabad orcs, Radagast, etc so what is so important to keep hidden in lego form.

Well, what I'm saying is that I believe LEGO is under contract to not reveal anything unti the studio says they can.

That makes sense even if it is not entirely logical on WB/New Line etc part. There may be some elements not seen like Bolg, Beorn human form, and the Necromancer but for the most part the sets do not seem very spoiler like.

Images of Bolg have been around for over a year now (look at my picture), plus he was seen in AUJ for 2 seconds during the Battle of Azanulbizar. And an image of Beorn human form surfaced thanks to someone taking a pic of a calendar or something for DOS. So, really, the Necromancer is the only one we haven't truly seen (although we did 'see' him in AUJ thanls to Radagast's recount of his trip to Dol Guldur). So truly, anything this wave has in store for us is old news.

Really? That's cool! I never noticed.

I'm sure New Line doesn't want images anyway. Who knows why, but I guarantee they have some reason.

Wait, an I the only one that thinks that the fact that there's only one dwarf in all the sets is weird? Honestly I was kinda hoping I would be able to get multiples of some of the dwarves. Their outits are just so cool.

I'm glad about it. The first wave was 100% dwarf-focused, and these movies are bigger than that. Also, we've gone two Tolkien waves without anything resembling an armybuilder - Mirkwood Elf Army (and possibly Dol Guldur ambush, depending on what exactly is in it) are a breath of fresh air. Also, we'll get more dwarfs in the TABA sets because they all will get fancy Lonely Mountain armor for the final battle - not to mention a possible Iron Hills-based army pack if Mirkwood Elf Army is any indication.

Um, the army elves are not the ones you see around mirkwood..

Which elves they are isn't relevant - it's the fact that we're getting an armybuilder in the Hobbit line. It's not really much to go on, but for a film that's centered on what will be the biggest battle in the PJ films since Pelennor, I'd be seriously surprised if there's no armybuilder in the December 2014 wave.

Really hope we get some pictures soon. Even though I'm going to buy all the sets in all likelihood, but it's much better to know well ahead of time to plan out purchases.

It seems somewhat odd all we have this year is clear pics of one set and nothing of the others, With just over a month until we should start seeing sets for sale this must be some sort of record for secrecy.

For some reason I have a feeling that the 'Dol Guldur Ambush' set will be based on the scene in AUJ where Radagast investigates Dol Guldur and meets the Necromancer. 'Dol Guldur Battle' is then likely to be based on a big battle that will probably happen in DOS.

I think Mirkwood Elf Army will represent the scenes in the new DOS trailer were the Elves battle Orcs beside the green trees. This set will probably be the one that includes Azog.

I dont think that will be the case. I say this because there is only four set in this wave, so LEGO will most likely want to concentrate on the new film coming out. Thats just what I think anyway. :classic:

Your latter prediction is likely pretty accurate. The Dol Guldur Ambush, however, will not be from AUJ, as there are no Orcs in Dol Guldur in AUJ, and we know the set has 2 Orcs. Radagast was also possibly confirmed as being in the Dol Guldur Battle large-set.

Is anyone else concerned with this wave, that only one set seems to have any even partial correlation to the book or classic story, Lake Town? Everything else is new PJ subjects and scenes. And even Lake Town, seems to be a new unknown scene staged in a familiar setting? This differs somewhat from just about every other LotR or Hobbit sets we have had released thus far. While minor details may have changed in the prior sets (such as Legolas and Tauriel in the Mirkwood Spiders set), the root of the sets were still fairly well known points or elements of the story, regardless of how you came to be familiar with it. Book or Movies. But as the conversation around here shows. Dedicated Tolkien fans really have no idea what to expect in most of these sets? They have no idea what these scenes are depicting. That could be part of the reason that New Line and Lego are keeping reveals under wraps. But it also may be a source of sales problems. Especially early release sales. Bag End sold like hot cakes because it had 4 movies and 4 books all triangulating in on it to spread familiarity and a desire to make it ones own. There is however pretty much no casual or classic familiarity with Dol Guldar. That's going to have some impact.

Blurry and bad quality leaked pics aren't the same as the official thing being released though. I mean we saw some of Smaugs head in a dark setting, but still have no idea what the rest of his body looks like or anything. Plus, if a pic gets leaked I doubt it changes things to much for companies, it's not like "oh, that pic of Beorn from the calendar was leaked online... no point trying to hide him now, lets just release everything we were planning on releasing later!"

But they have run out of book-related scenes to make sets of, mirkwood is covered, thranduil's palce is covered, laketown is covered, That leaves Beorn palce wich is way too big to make a cool set of, and it leaves smaug stuff wich proaplby means a big dragon mold and not much scenery.

I'd much rather they made the sets they did wich ends up giving us alot more interesting minifigures. Wich most of them are from the book (or books)

Bag end was a very specific situation where it had gotten so much exposure in all the films.
