SMC Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 ^ where did you find/see the prelim box art? Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Seems like I will be getting some lego Hobbit sets this year. Quote
omegabob Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 In my opinion and for me this wave is the best so far out of both the Hobbit and LotR because it has the one set I've been wanting since the LotR line began...and Elf army builder set. Everything else is just icing on the cake. Being able to add Elves and Orcs as new races to my Lego Castle world is something I've want for decades (probably ever since Black Falcon Fotress). Unfortunatly the Trolls from the "Fantasy Era" were during my dark age but that is ok because a new age is here. Now I just need to see those new Chima Bats to see if they will work with my Vampire Knight (a.k.a. Fright Knights). Quote

legofreak86 Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 The prelim box art showed the inside of the courtyard aswell, this is a mines of moria style set not helms deep style. It just seems odd for the front of the box to show the same as the back. I assume it will be from a different angle and with the characters in different positions? Quote
omegabob Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 yes but you didn't have to wait till now to have people with hoods on and that's the problem for me. True, but I don't mind the hoods on some of my Elves. One of the squads in my current Elf army is an Elf like head on the Razcal body (from Chima) with a black hood and cape and then the squad leader is an Elf like head on the Rawzom body with Elf hair/ears and a black cape. To me the unit looks really cool even with most of them having hood. I also have a couple of squads of Archers that are a mix of Elves with dark green hoods and capes and ones with hair and dark green capes. That the Mirwood Army set comes with a new hair piece and a regular hairpiece is a win for me (but that may just be me). Quote
SMC Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 (edited) ^ im hoping I can use the new head piece but it might be too iconic to use on a number of figures. Eomer was ok to use as a random Rohan horseman but im not sure I can use all 6 figs like I could with uruk army. Edited October 18, 2013 by SMC Quote
SandMirror38 Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 YEAAAA!!! They look GREAT! Though there kinda hard to see Quote
Darth Caedus Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 My thoughts: DGA: Underwhelming, given that the Orcs are still the same darn rehashes as always. Where's the green Orcs? Grey orcs? Lego, you're messing up. Still, a solid enough set, depending on the piece count. Cheapest way to get a red foliage tree, though. And I do like Beorn. DGB: I really, really dig this. Affordable price, and better laid out than Balin's Wall And Door. This looks a lot better, the tower was a solid choice. Buffed with the door from DGA, this will look even better. Can't comment on figs yet, too small. MEA: Standout of the wave. Elf minifigs are underwhelming, since we needed armored warriors, but at least they have new torsos. The Orcs are whatever, but the brown warg is awesome. Can't wait to get him. And surprisingly, the actual building in this set is surprisingly good, with an extensive wall and a big, cool tree-fort which I was *not* expecting. This really seems like you could buy a few and make an "elven fort" with tree towers. Very very cool. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I cant see radagast in the picture :( Can someone point him out? Quote
namioik Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Worst case scenario, we'll see official pictures in 2 weeks! So the wait is almost over Quote
just2good Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Worst case scenario, we'll see official pictures in 2 weeks! So the wait is almost over You guys are STILL asking for pictures? We just got three decent pictures! Be happy! To be fair, I am curious to see the figures close up and stuff. But I'm happy we got these before the 2014 pictures. Quote
namioik Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 You guys are STILL asking for pictures? We just got three decent pictures! Be happy! Haha I am happy. Seeing those pictures are more than enough for me to go buy the sets. Then again, I always buy the entire wave regardless... Quote
deskp Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 the Orcs are still the same darn rehashes as always. Where's the green Orcs? Grey orcs? Lego, you're messing up. Um, these are all new prints and a new overall color.... The new orc is based of this crew In that orange-y color AND half of them comes with shoulder armor. They are movie accurate so Don't complain that lego didn't do their job what concernes putting these figures in this wave. Quote
Fives Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Yeah, I find that complaining for new orcs is kinda silly. Sure, there was some variety in skin colours, but overall they were all just kinda muddy coloured. And, at least to me, unless an orc is a named character (Azog, Yazneg, Gothmog, Grishnakh), all the grunts can be the same. I have no issue with clone orc armies. After all, they are just fodder for Sauron. And these new orcs share the same dark flesh skin colour seen on some of the Indiana Jones baddies. And from the looks of it, Beorn is dark flesh as well. The one thing I find to be wasted potential is LEGO not recycling the swords from the Pharaoh's Quest theme as orc scimitars. http://cache.lego.com/upload/contentTemplating/PharaohsQuestBios/images/pic0D22400E4B427E60D77E451ED00C84EB.png They would've looked a lot better in the hands of these new Gundabad orcs. Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I really like the looks of these sets from what we can see. Even the smallest one is okay. The good thing about making Beorn regular minifig size is you can part switch him. I did really want to see him in bear shape. The bigger sets are just great. The elf outpost is a beautiful set for its price point, especially including another Warg. It is darker than I would have liked, but still a great monster. And yay, elf armies. Love it. The big set, well hell Radagast and Sauron?!? And a nice building with expandability? Great stuff - I think a better buy than the Black Gate from last wave. And - le sigh - new Orc designs.... Quote
deskp Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 The one thing I find to be wasted potential is LEGO not recycling the swords from the Pharaoh's Quest theme as orc scimitars. Also Thranduil should have gotten a katana, a broadsword for Thranduil the elf king come on... Quote

They are movie accurate so Don't complain that lego didn't do their job what concernes putting these figures in this wave. Where did you see prelim pics for the new sets? To me half the pieces on the orcs still look the same from what I can make out in the small, blurry pics. It looks like they have new head and torso prints, but the old legs and hair/ear piece (when used). If that is the case it's nice we got at least SOME new parts, but for minifigures appearing in 3 sets in a single wave and appearing 7 times I think they should be totally new? I just don't understand why Lego can do totally new hair pieces for minifigures only appearing in one set, or put two totally different soldier types in one set, but when it comes to some figs like the Orcs they re-use the exact same orc in three, four, or even more sets. I'm not wanting a brand new orc in every set, but having at least 2 print variants of each type would be awesome, especially in a wave like the second Hobbit one where they appear in 3 sets yet seemingly are only "half" new, and even of the new pieces all have the same new head/chest print. As for the elves, I am really feeling meh about them. To me elves are a race that was always very few in numbers compared to orcs or even humans. If I get the 10 Mirkwood Elf Army sets I want, I am gonna have 30 elf grunts, plus the 20 from the polybags I bought last year. That's as many as I currently have Rohan Soldiers! Like with the Mirkwood Elf polybag last year, I am not a fan of the hood because it makes it pretty much impossible to identify the figs as elves vs regular humans. I wish we would of at least got 2 hair and ear pieces instead of just 1. I probably will end up using my old Mirkwood Elves from the polybag as Ithilien Rangers or something since they look close enough. Lastly I think Dol Guldur should have a shape more resembling what we see in the movie. Dol Guldur looks like ruins with a bunch of jutting towers and structures. Instead of that the Lego set looks like a tall wall with a single tower. Overall I think it's a pretty good wave and these are just small nit picks. I think it could have been amazing though if we got 2 elves in armor and distinct helms like seen in the trailer, Dol Guldur had a few more towers or tall structures, and the orcs were a little more varied with totally new pieces. That would of made the wave go from like a 7 or 8 to a 10 for me. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 ^ I think they did a good job of DG. Though I will put my final thought once I see the front Quote
SandMirror38 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 (edited) ^ That looks great!!! Now we need to see how it connects to DGA Q. Is that the same doorway that the necromancer comes up in AUJ? Edited October 19, 2013 by SandMirror38 Quote
WEREWOLF Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 some small but clearer pictures here http://www.thebrickfan.com/ Quote
deskp Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Q. Is that the same doorway that the necromancer comes up in AUJ? No this is the entrance by the bridge, the necromancer archway is in the other set. Quote

Thanks So do we have any idea who the warrior with a red beard in DGB was/is? Edited October 19, 2013 by SandMirror38 Quote
