Lego did good job with him, but I don't like the film version. I hoped for something like Hagrid. In book he was bigger than other man, with great black hair and bear, but all we get is normal-sized man, who looks like a lion from The Wizard of Oz. But, as one've said, he'll be good for minifigure-mixing.

In my opinion Lego version looks better than the movie one becouse it's blocky and simplified. Also his hairpiece looks more like a beard than those ugly sideburns. I can live with Lego fig (I actually like it very much) but the movie version reminds me of some kind of hybrid made from Wolverine, Connan the Barbarian an Sonic the Hedgehog.

I know, he looks like he's wearing a gallon of hair gel and is impersonating a Marvel Superheroes weirdo!!

Yes, exactly! He also reminds me of the Monkey King from the movie "The Forbidden Kingdom".

Yeah LEGO isn't responsible. They just copied the design provided by the studios... but geez. :sceptic:

True, I always pictured Beorn as some sort of Hagrid lookalike (or rather Hagrid as a Beorn lookalike). Never thought I'd see him with a blonde mullet. :sadnew:

Lets face it, bjeorn is a warewolf from an 80s thriler

His hairpeice could make some cool dwarf though, and its nice to get more medium flesh

Yeah, we'll probably see that hairpiece again in a few GoH MOCs.

Unfortunately, the sets are as unimaginative and boring as the trailer. Honestly, I was so in love with the first movie and the firvst wave of LEGO sets and was hoping for two equally amazing sequels. Now I really don't know if I should even bother watching the second part. The trailers are full of (imho) unnecessary battle scenes and elven teenie romance and the LEGO sets are wall segments and orcs, some more orcs and on top of that, orcs. And yeah, Beorn from X-Men. I'll pass on this wave...

Guys I think one of the trailers gives some insight into the swinging skull cage feature on the Dol Guldur battle. Notice to the right of who Gandalf is fighting there is a hanging cage with a skeleton like the one in the set. Plus in the set it is right next to a door which looks the same as this photo as is the archway to the right under the tower in the set. http://www.herr-der-ringe-film.de/v3/media/galerie/hobbit001/hobbit_15/DOS_T1_40-cb206752.jpg Plus this set is clearly based on the courtyard of the fortress of Dol Guldur from the movies. This is easy to tell as in the scene where radagast enters Dol Guldur in AUJ the layout of the courtyard is pretty much similar to the set. the two staircases one on each side and the archway leading to the necromancer and the walls and tower with the entrance on the left side where Lego has put the opening gate instead of the gateway from the Dol Guldur ambush which is where radagast entered in the movie unless that is another entrance we will see used in the movie. In fact lego seems to think that gateway's front should face towards the inside of the fortress which seems odd to me as there are swinging axes on the inside of the doorway so attaching it that way seems just odd. i reckon from the look of the dol guldur set that the doorway set can also be attached on the other side next to the other doorway the right way round. The statue is shown on the official banner for Dos in the courtyard is seen in the banner to be holding a sphere/ball possibly a palantir.

Wow, the box art looks quite fantastic! Makes everything seem so alive... Its just a pity that the sets themselves are so dull. I was pretty excited for this wave, thinking we could get sets made of Beorn's cabin and maybe a bit of Smaug's Treasure pile. Instead we get in order: a dinky looking wall, a smaller dinky looking wall, and an even smaller dinky looking wall. I guess Lego has decided its all about the figs for now. And as much I like those figs, I don't think I'm gonna be dropping any cash on what are essentially glorified battlepacks as opposed to actual playsets.

I'd actually prefer they matched. Just makes more sense to me.

Um, tat picture is not very representative of Azogs minifig color.

This. Tan Azog is okay, but he's supposed to be the PALE Orc. He *is* very bone-white in the actual film, not tan at all (someone on an earlier page claimed otherwise, after a quick rewatch of his scenes, they're very obviously wrong).

What a big let down. I don't plan to spend any money on those "sets" -- if you can call them that. Because lets face it: it's a doorway, another doorway and then a wall. The wall has got a missile o it! (A missile, really? really, Lego? ). The figures are ok, but I guess I'll just save my money for next year Castle. I'm still hoping for that Black Falcons, Forestmen and Wolfpack comeback.

Great pictures of the new Desolation of Smaug sets! I really like the minifigs :sweet: , Beorn is accurate to the movie character, I just don't like how he looks. :sceptic: I can't wait to see the prices, one website had an estimate, and it was ridiculously expensive! :hmpf_bad:

Really, the only reason why I would get the sets, is for the minifigs. I would probably sell the set, as I don't really like them.

I'm pretty sure that Beorn is greatly oversized in the movie. We have long seen pictures of the set of his house and it seems to be about 3x the scale of the dwarves. I do wish Lego had communicated that better via minifig. A Hagrid type big fig might not have worked well as Beorn seems less stocky and more lean and slender in man form. And I confess I can't picture the toy story legs as looking anything but absurd on him. But still a little more of a looming presence would have been nice.

^ He probably is taller with his hairpiece

Thats not how height works, his head is still way down.

Toy story elgs and arms would have worked out great, it's basically more natural proportions.

My guess would be:

$19.99 for Dol Guldur Ambush

$49.99 for Laketown Chase

$69.99 for Dol Guldur Battle

$29.99 for Mirkwood Elf Army

$79.99 for Dol Guldur Battle

$29.99 for Mirkwood Elf Army

Based on the Euro prices, which are usually the same as the US prices, they're all of those, except Dol Guldur Battle is $70.

Yeah I made a typo which I corrected as soon as I noticed it.

Well then I guess my estimation wasn't that bad. :P

Any of you photoshop wizards checking what azog looks in white? I know you did it with some older figs!

to be honest though, doesn't bother me too much, hes still a pretty spectacualr fig, only real let down is the necromancer really, but then again, how else could they have done them?
