Anyone not liking the colour of the new Orcs.

I'm not liking it, I'm loving it! I really like the new color.

That 'leaves room' forr Armored Thorin, armore Fili, armored Kili, new Bilbo, Armored Thranduil(?) armored Bard(?)

Good analysis! I really hope for armored Fili, Kili, Thorin, and Bilbo (possibly Dwalin).

Anyone not liking the colour of the new Orcs.

I wish Lego would of done a more diverse color change if they were going to do it. I realize the Gundabad Orcs we have seen so far are orangish, but its such a minor change and it will make mixing and matching with other existing orcs/goblins look weird. If they had done the Gundabad Orcs in the same tan we could of at least mixed parts between the existing Mordor Orcs, Goblin King goblins, and Gundabad Orcs. With such little variety so far it would of been nice. All well.

As for why we didnt see any dwarves this Hobbit wave, keep in mind there are only 4 (known) sets. That's only 20 minifigures total. If they had the 13 dwarves plus Bilbo and Gandalf again we would of only gotten 5 new minifigures this wave. That means Beorn, Radaghast, Thranduil, Azog, and the Necromancer. There would of been no room for any new orcs or elves. Personally I am glad we didnt get any dwarf rehashes this wave except for Thorin.

LEGO handled the dwarf issue tactfully. They spent the first wave giving us the whole group, which made room for them to give us the secondary characters presented in DOS. Much like the book, the only dwarves who are of any significant mention are Thorin, Fili, Kili, and Balin. The third wave for TABA will hopefully include variants of these dwarves, along with possible variants of other secondary characters (Thranduil, Bard and Beorn), which would give us a nice, well-rounded collection.

I agree, couldn't have said it better...

Like others have said, wave 3 should be the armoured wave - for dwarves, orcs, men and elves. And Fives has already identified the main dwarves from Thorin's company who feature particularly strongly in that part of the book's narrative. Given where the dwarves arm and armour themselves, only getting a small selection should allow for some straightforward head swaps to get a fully armoured group - especially if we also get some Iron Hills dwarves (about whom I've already obsessed elsewhere on this thread).

You should note that the 'armor' they get in the movie is as specificly designed for each dwarf as their normal clothes.

We have already seen Thorin, Fili, Kili and Dwalin's "armored" outfits from the movie.

And if the armor is only printed on the torsos there can be as many dwarves you like, but if the armor, is an armor piece, perhaps we will only see dwarves that their actual mold allows the armor piece and hair/helmet piece at the same time.

Or the designers could make specialized moulds for beards+armor, though I don't think I'd be a fan of this solution. Anyway, it seems this would fit better in the Future LotR discussion...

The company of dwarves doesent wear big armor pieces. Here you see Fili and Kili in armor, here and here Thorin in armor. Here Dwalin in armor.

All the armour they wear is found in Erebor, not fitted to each dwarf. They scavenged and found what suited them best.

In the fiction sure, But for the movie making each outfit is very much designed specifically for each dwarf.

Coming back to topic..

Is the necromancer glow in the dark?

I get the feeling that he may be because of the light around him and the strange green they used for the printing. Anyone else think the same?

Nope, I don't think so. the "glow" around is jstu to make him stand out from the black brackground and mimic that surge in the movie.

There is also a glow around the wizards staves and the jewel on the statue, so we can't assume that the necromancer will be GITD, however I wouldn't be surprised if the face and torso print were in fact GITD. The dead men of the mountains weren't GITD, so either they were a precedent or TLG has decided "you know what? They wanted GITD, we didn't give them GITD, how about we do this time"

I personally don't care at this point. If in the movie he glows in the dark then yes, it would be better, but if he doesn't...

Over the past few days, I have attempted to recreate the new Hobbit sets as closely as possible in LDD. These sets may have small portions where there are absolutely no views of that part of the set, however, for the most part, they should be accurate to all the photos that we currently have. By building these sets I have found that the Mirkwood Elf Army set does in fact separate to allow for different arrangements as well as that Dol Guldur Battle breaks up into six separate parts that are connected using axles. I have included pictures and the LXF files below for you to be able to rearrange and view the sets from new angles. The first three should be very close to correct, while Dol Guldur Battle may have some small discrepancies.

Penguinz, that's some true dedication!

In general, I have actually warmed up to the sets (or at least the figures) after seeing the hi-res images. And just because it's been rather quiet recently, I wondered what everybody's ten most anticipated things in the Hobbit 2013 sets are.

My top-10 in order:

1. A scan of an instruction booklet confirming Lord of the Rings sets for 2014 (Any guesses on when this might occur?)

2. Radagast minifig (Love the character's concept but hated the execution. I actually liked his version in the War in the North video game much more, since it still presented

the brown wizard as an eccentric character minus the ridiculous slapstick).

3. Brown Warg (could use multiple for Rohan vs warg rider battles, will depend on Bricklink prices)

4. Beorn minifig (already have the bear and look forward to use him in MOCs)

5. Gundabad Orcs (more variety and nice looking pauldron piece)

6. Bard the Bowman minifig (important character, but severely flawed by lack of quiver)

7. Thranduil minifig (good to get the leader of the elves, although his terrible ears ruin the fig slightly)

8. Azog minifig (might as well add him to my collection since I have a white warg and PJ decided to have this CGI guy as main villain)

9. Dol Guldur display set (it doesn't look like much, but I highly anticipate Radagast & Gandalf in a sequence that feels gritty and full of suspense rather than slapstick and would

possibly have Dol Guldur on display for a few weeks)

10. Lake-town Chase set (it's the best-looking set of this wave, in my opinion, and I could see it standing on a shelf for a few weeks after the movie).

I agree with most of those although the LOTR confirmation wouldn't be on the top.

I'm fond of these new orcs...

I just had a proper look at Thranduil because of hearing about these neck-ears (I really wanted it all to be false!) and, oh, the horror !

^ I am liking the list too a few changes but not too many, LOTR confirmation is top of the list now we have seen the new sets. And any news on a exculsive set if there is one.

My only regret is that at least one elf could have been in armour and a helm similar to that in the trailer.

Of the sets I am only looking at the elf army multiple times a couple Beorn and maybe Lake town. Will look to get the minifigs of Radagast and Azog separately as the sets don't do much for me. Saving my money for a hopeful large scale Smaug set and of course the battle of the five armies. I really hope Lego go to town on this one. Give us some army building sets with minimal scenery with a cheaper price point.

I pretty much agree with Lynx's list too. Confirmation of a third LotR is what I am most looking forward to right now. A close second would probably be the brown Warg for me though. While not my ideal color (little lighter tan/brown would have been), it is still a good compromise between the LotR and Hobbit colors for Wargs. After that everything else is pretty much the same for me. If all the orcs had the hair piece, or the elves had proper armor they easily would of been near the top. I am not a huge fan of the Azog or Thranduil figures because both have flaws imo, Thranduil has the weird ear position and Azog's hook arm doesn't even grasp anything. I like Beorn and Radagast slightly better than them. I don't find any of the builds particularly interesting this wave so for me it would be:

1) Third wave LotR confirmation

2) Brown Warg

3) Orcs to army build with

4) Elves to army build with

5) Radagast

6) Beorn

7) Azog

8) Thranduil

^ I know its not that big but the build for Lake-town looks good and with all the gray in the other sets its something different

Trying to also come up with a top ten....

(1) Some indication of 2014 LOTR sets

(2) Beorn

(3) Radagast

(4) Thranduil

(5) Bard

(6) Laketown guard

(7) Laketown master

(8) Azog

(9) Gundabad orcs

(10) brown arches in the Mirkwood army set

Yep, this is mostly about the minifigs!
