Delta 38 Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) Ooh, news! This is nice as I watched all three Lord of the Rings films (for the fourth time) and The Hobbit recently. The Corsair ship is quite surprising. It was in the movie, yes, but it's only there for a few minutes. I wonder if the inclusion of the Dunharrow King might be a bit early, since he might be more at home in a Paths of the Dead set. It also seems very close to the ship in the Lego videogame, so that could be used to get an idea of what the final model might look like. I'm a bit paranoid about the Black Gate, particularly because it only includes one of those towers. Buying two would be too expensive. Though that said, the inclusion of the Mouth of Sauron is great, especially since he was cut from the film and probably isn't the most well-known character. Regarding Easterlings, here's an idea... Easterlings were actually present at the Battle of Minas Tirith, so if we get a set based on that (particularly if it's in the style of the Uruk-hai Army set as an expandable structure), we might get them there. The scene where they're entering the Black Gate isn't really exciting enough to make a playset from. Finally, if there's any set I'm kind of disappointed with, it's the Council of Elrond set. It seems to just be a portion of a facade, a platform, and a small tree. We could have gotten a really nice bigger Rivendell set in the future. Unless if it connects to some larger thing, there's little structure here for what's meant to be a building. Edited December 28, 2012 by Delta 38 Quote
djmangunz Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Having just seen the Hobbit this afternoon finally, I have to say that there weren't too many scenes which Lego didn't cover in the first line that I could see them turning into sets. With the exception of the trolls and the inclusion of the white orc in the Attack of the Wargs set, I would have to say Lego nailed the bests opportunities to make sets. The movie was incredible by the way, packed full of little nuggets for the hardcore fans. Quote
DarthPotato Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 These sets all look great just by looking at the preliminary pictures! And I agree with what many other people have said about the Black Gate, it's probably my favorite. The others aren't bad either... and Corsair ship is probably one of my least wanted sets of this wave but I'll still end up getting it. (I don't think it's a bad set, BTW) Quote
Huntleyfx Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 With there being an Eagle in the Black Gate, that means a Battle of the Five Armies is possible! Quote
Fives Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 That is definitely an Eagle! Amazing! That makes the Black Gate set soooooo much better, and even before I realized the Eagle was there I thought that it was the best set of the wave! Quote

Unless if it connects to some larger thing, there's little structure here for what's meant to be a building. I dont really think im disappointed in the council of elrond set, because i figured TLG wasnt going to be able to create a huge rivendell set just because of the way rivendell is designed in the movies. my thinking is that maybe TLG will release thier council of elrond to go along with the LOTR movies and include its major scenes that take place in Rivendell. These scenes mainly involving the council, maybe a bedchamber where frodo wakes up, and the room with the shards of narsil. They could also release a Hobbit version of Rivendell and include major scenes from this movie. These scenes would include the gazebo looking chamber where the white council is held, and any other scene depicted from any future hobbit movies. Im sure this is just me being hopeful but it could definitely build up to a bigger rivendell that covers more scenes from the movies. As far as the battle pack discussions, I understand the points each of you are trying to make, and dont think im against battlepacks, because i would love to stock up on tons of 10-30$ army builder sets along with both of you guys. My point was just looking at it from a standpoint of lego. They have to plan thier sets so that each set has a bonus and a purpose of buying it. If they release of a certain set, and that set takes away purchases from other sets, it makes practical and business sense to avoid selling that set for as long as possible until people stop buying the other set. Of course we would stock up on 4-5 army builder sets, i could have figured that just from the fact that were discussing it on a lego website. If were on here were obviously hardcore enough to spend some money on sets and TLG already knows they have our business. Im also not saying that it doesnt make sense to release battle packs, i just think it makes sense to release them after the other sets lose thier initial appeal and sales start to drop. Anyway, i would love for you guys to be right and to get a cool battle pack this wave, i need to fill out my sets with more bad guys to give the heros the 4 vs 1 and 5 vs 1 scenes from the movies. Bilbo Baggins Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I really can't wait to get all this sets, are we only getting this four? Quote
Deathleech Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I really can't wait to get all this sets, are we only getting this four? That's the million dollar question. Something to point out is that the Castle page has 5 sets shown on one page so why does the LotR page seemingly only have 4? And the Star Wars sets seem like the picture was taken way zoomed in so maybe there are more on the page? Or maybe they only have certain set types on each page? Who knows, just some things to think about. Quote
Brickity Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I saw the Hobbit movie a few days ago. The Attack of the Mirkwood spiders and escape from the barrels scenes never happened in the movie I just checked and I think they belong to the 2013 movie? If so, why did they release them in the 2012 line? Quote

Those scenes were supposed to be in the first movie. Quote

Who knows, just some things to think about. I have a strong feeling that the Castle theme is gonna be a one wave deal. It looks way worse than both Kingdoms and the2007 Castle line, so I don't think it will have a major impact on the sales of LOTR and The Hobbit. As for the prelims, the SW ones only show the two flagship sets of the summer wave. But, in that image, if you looks closer at the bottom left corner, you can see a bit of the other page and what looks like the edge of the Yoda box art, meaning there is an entire second page of prelims. That being said, this could be the same for LOTR. We only have the image of the one page, but there could be a strong chance that there is a second page that contains either more LOTR prelims or The Hobbit prelims. Unfortunately, whoever took these catalogue pics must have been in a rush and didn't get time to get pics of all the pages, which mean that we aren't gonna have any real confirmation on the finality of this wave until the NY Toy Fair in mid January (which really isn't that far off). I also find it interesting that the Rivendell set is getting so much negative criticism. Sure, it's a small set, but the scene it's depicting is only of a small portion of Rivendell. There is a serious chance that we could still get other Rivendell sets, but maybe based on the Hobbit. They could have a set with the balcony that the White Council met at, and maybe the Moon Runes area, with Gamdalf, Galadriel, and maybe an armoured Elrond, and possibly Lindir. Also, they could portray the little feats they have and create an Orcrist mold. I just have a feeling that this one Council set will not be the end of the Rivendell sets. I feel like LEGO could milk Rivendell the same way they've milked Hoth in the SW theme over the years. Quote

Fair enough. The problem for me isn't so much the size, but rather the lack of... stuff. But then again, I suppose there's not terribly much you can do with a scene in which people sit in a circle. A couple of chairs, a few generic Elves or Dwarves, maybe a base of some sort... Edit: I just noticed a number of models in the bonus level of the Lego Lord of the Rings videogame that look like they can be real sets. There's also a Council of Elrond model that looks strikingly similar to the preliminary picture. Edited December 28, 2012 by Delta 38 Quote
Lordof theBricks Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Hello guys,I really want to know do You like my design of Mordor armored orcs, because,I made them the same as in the ovie, and I am interested do You want to see them in The Battle at The Black Gate set? Here is the link Quote

The Attack of the Mirkwood spiders and escape from the barrels scenes never happened in the movie I just checked and I think they belong to the 2013 movie? If so, why did they release them in the 2012 line? Peter Jackson convinced new line to make the Hobbit movies into 3 rather than 2 at a very late stage for a movie. At that point TLG's wave of releases would have been set. Probably also explains why there are some scenes in the first film that aren't covered. Quote

Mahtion Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 That almost sounds like a chess game with Uruk-Hai and Saruman and Grima and then te opposing side having Rohirrim, Galadhrim and Theoden and Haldir and Aragorn. Quote
DarthPotato Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Ooooh, a Helms Deep board game? Now this sounds interesting to me. Hopefully it has more fighting like in the Heroica Games. I'm just hoping that it's not memorization or anything like the Bag End game was. Quote

deskp Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) Here is a set idea I would like to see. 108 pieces, 5 minifigures, Fimbul the hunter, 2 Rivendell soldiers, 1 orc And Kili since lego would "need" a hero figure. The bears are obviosuly representing wargs here. Hopefully you remember the scene from the hobbit. Edited December 28, 2012 by deskp Quote
Legomaster34 Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Here is a set idea I would like to see. 103 pieces, 5 minifigures, Fimbul the hunter, 2 Rivendell soldiers, 1 orc And Kili since lego would "need" a hero figure. The bears are obviosuly representing wargs here. (the capes would obviously be the long variation but it wouldnt work with the horses in ldd. Also Fimbul would have a green cape.) *snip* Hopefully you remember the scene from the hobbit. That would be awesome! I especially like how you made the hiding spot for Kili. Quote
Moexy Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Wow, looks really good! I hope we get some of those Elven warriors soon Quote
