deskp Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I did a little photoshopping to see what 2x black gate sets could look like, I didnt care much for the set when i first saw it but I think it will look glorious when you combine 2! zylek Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) Fair enough. The problem for me isn't so much the size, but rather the lack of... stuff. But then again, I suppose there's not terribly much you can do with a scene in which people sit in a circle. A couple of chairs, a few generic Elves or Dwarves, maybe a base of some sort... Edit: I just noticed a number of models in the bonus level of the Lego Lord of the Rings videogame that look like they can be real sets. There's also a Council of Elrond model that looks strikingly similar to the preliminary picture. Yes it does: The black gate also is half just like the set: The Corsair ship looks close too, except they raised the sails up so you could run freely under them: The bonus level Lothlorien also looks like what I would expect a possible set to look like: Edited December 28, 2012 by zylek Quote
Mahtion Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) Yes! I want that Hobbit "battle pack". We get more wargs and white horse molds with Elves. Cannot get more perfect than that. I would buy 30 lol and make an elven cavalry. Only of course the elves would be wearing silver armor like in the movie and one elf rider would just have hair. It could go either way with the hair or helmet. They would need lances and bows. I think their capes were not in blue in the movie, will have to check on that. Also zylek, I hope this means that we will get a balrog, Treebeard and fell beast soon if Lego is closely following their brick builds from the game. Though I think Lothlorien is a little more disappointing than Rivendell. Would have preferred one taller tree or a set that appears high in the trees without the roots like Galadriel's court or the mirror scene. Hopefully that set would come with Galadriel, Celeborn, Lothlorien Haldir and Aragorn or something along those lines. Edited December 28, 2012 by Mahtion Quote

zylek Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I also noticed that the Council of Elrond image from the bonus game even has the same white brick weapon rack with grey tile topper like the preliminary set image has. Quote
CM4Sci Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 Could someone put Thorin's hair on Gandalf and post a pic? Color the hair white and that could be our Gandalf the White if LEGO doesn't make a new hairpiece... -Sci Quote
Fives Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Just took a look, and it appears that the NY Toy Fair is happening from February 12-15, meaning we will likely get pics of the sets from the fair a day or so after that. So, about a month and a half to wait until we get our first non-prelim pics. Quote

Yeah, I have a very good feeling about this as well, but do you think the hair at the back will jut out slightly to accommodate a cape, or will the capes be the new design that work with armour, like Malgus or Shredder has? I would rather the hair be altered to fit a normal cape. Quote
CMP Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Could someone put Thorin's hair on Gandalf and post a pic? Color the hair white and that could be our Gandalf the White if LEGO doesn't make a new hairpiece... Doesn't fit. Quote
Deathleech Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 That almost sounds like a chess game with Uruk-Hai and Saruman and Grima and then te opposing side having Rohirrim, Galadhrim and Theoden and Haldir and Aragorn. As much as I wish it were true, I don't think so based on the name. Why would Lego make a chess set centering around a single battle and eliminating any potential for all the other main characters/factions in the films? If it were a chess set I would expect it to be named something more broad like Battle for Middle Earth. I have a feeling it will be another board game. I REALLY hope its not true though because I would love a $50-70 set that has dozens of soldiers in it for army building, as well as all the main characters. I would buy like five just for the minifigs alone. Quote

The_Chosen_1 Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I didn't realize that these sets are so similar to their appearance in the game. I guess it's safe to say that the game acts as a good jumping-off point for what future sets might look like. Quote
Mahtion Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) Hopefully Minas Tirith won't look like it did in the game, it isway underscaled and would look silly next to minifigs. Yeah it is disappointing about the chess set, makes sense that it would be a board game, had my hopes up too. Worse case scenario it will be a flat area with brick built walls and towers in microscale like the Hobbit board game. Honestly my first thought was a new Lego video game. However one based off Helms deep doesn't make sense and the next Lego video game should be a Hobbit one. Edited December 29, 2012 by Mahtion Quote

Mahtion Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Lothlorien definitely needs a couple more flights of stairs to look even remotely like the real deal. Also I wish it will have lanterns hanging like in the movie. If only Lego designed it to be during the night the color scheme would be silver, white and blue and result in a more mystical and unique set. Quote
YangHao6998 Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Does anyone think it is possible that if TLG does make a Balrog set, you can somehow connect to the Mine of Moria set? Quote

General Magma Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 What's all the worrying about Gandalf the White's hairpiece for? Even judging from the back, it looks like a new hairpiece to me. I'm also 100% sure we're getting Anduril/Narsil as a new mold. The ony new mold that can only be used once is the Mouth of Sauron's helmet, the Eagle can still be used in later sets - Aragorn's sword would appear in the Black Gate and the Corsair set, the new wizard hair would be used on Saruman and Gandalf the White in two different sets as well. Brickington Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Does anyone think it is possible that if TLG does make a Balrog set, you can somehow connect to the Mine of Moria set? I seriously doubt that if TLG makes the set that you can connect it to Mines of Moria. Quote

Lynx Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I'm also 100% sure we're getting Anduril/Narsil as a new mold. I hope you're correct, but I remember your certainty regarding a new mold for Orcrist - which never happened. Quote
