Yes, I do realize it's likely. But in the event that he was left out, it'd be a good place to put him.

Also, I know this was brought up earlier, but I quick threw together something else that I thought worked for Braga,

Someone had mentioned that they didn't like the backwards torso idea because it make him look lesser than the general lake town guards, which I agree with.

The shoulders are from Brickforge, but I feel like it helps boosts the whole captain of the guards look/idea.

(also, I apologize if this is redundant, just wanted to put in my two cents.)

Solid Braga. I still hope he survives Smaug's attack and can show up as the unique in a BO5A armybuilder (LEGO! LISTEN TO US! THIS IS A GOOD IDEA!). Actually, who cares if he survives or not, Lego doesn't care about movie or book canon either way. Seriously, and this is to any chance of any Lego rep ever reading this, as slim as that is: people are going to buy a $30 Battle of Five Armies set because it has Battle of Five Armies warriors and has the iconic name "The Battle Of Five Armies." Nobody is going to be buying it for the uniques. A minor fellow like Braga is perfectly fine and would make it the ultimate armybuilder. I mean, seriously, it's as simple as this:

BO5A $30 set with an unusable unique like Armored Bilbo or somesuch goofiness. I'd buy 2 and maybe bricklink a few more of the non uniques.

without an unusable unique? 5 sets or more. Kids are definitely the target audience, but the sets that reach them best are the impulse buys ($13 sets with a couple iconic uniques), flagship sets (Helm's Deep type stuff), and ultra-desirable locations (Bag End). The armybuilder sets are AFOL gold, and we still have no problem with tossing in all the kid-friendly stuff that makes it appealing to the younger audience (look at UHA's ballista, nothing wrong with that and we still get a proper ratio of good-to-evil in a near-perfect armybuilder).

Come to think of it, I have to wonder if we'll get two Bilbo's for this last wave - Bilbo's blue coat might get skipped wholesale in favor of whatever armor he dons for the Battle. It's certainly not a particularly interesting outfit, I wouldn't mind it being dropped. It's a shame that cool blue market coat was blu-ray only...

And on the subject of modding Laketown people, just completed my headswaps of Laketown soldiers tonight. 17 Laketown Guards (LTC + 16 polys), and only one retains the original orange-bearded face - I harvested peach faces that were appropriate from a wide variety of sources to make an ultra-realistic force. No clone-army stuff going on.

I honestly wonder how Lego decides what to put in their army builders and how they get their info. I would love to see their sales and marketing research data. I guess it sort of makes sense they would include a unique character in a $30 "army builder". Lego probably figures kids are only going to buy one of the set at $30 so a unique character just boosts the appeal. For AFOLS they figure the unique character probably doesn't hurt sales that much, and it must be a sacrifice they are willing to take because of the increased appeal it has to kids. Otherwise why would they do it? It makes no sense to us.

This makes me wonder though, in the designer videos we have seen them show us goblin and orc armies and configurations a few times now. The last we saw was all the Goblin Town goblin configurations. Why would they show us that though? The goblins are ONLY in a $100 set so far and most people aren't going to buy more than 1 or 2 of this set, or BL a few of the goblins. I mean I guess we might get more goblins in the third Hobbit wave, but if not why even show us that? It makes Lego seem a tad out of touch. "Ya, here are all the combinations you can do with these goblins.. but it doesn't matter because we only give you THREE in a single $100 set!"

Because the minifigure designer has that in mind. Doesen't matter how many we get in sets. He knows people who care buy and sell figures to end up with waht they want more or less.

If you're not gonna include named minifigures in the "battle packs" Then I feel atleast one of the soldiers should be unique to the set.

On top of that I'd get really annoyed if they made some weird soldier and left some prominent characther unmade in lego.

All of the Target stores in my area are completely sold out of Middle-earth sets, Hobbit and LOTR alike. I guess they were popular items for Christmas.

Mine were as well. When the sets were first released I visited three different Targets and noticed they all had about the same stock. They only had 2-3 of each set, and a few Targets were missing a set completely such as DGB. They didn't seem very well stocked. On top of that they were at the end of an aisle at every Target on a Lego display with Ninjago. The Ninjago stuff was facing customers as they walked by while the Hobbit sets were tucked to the side kind of out of view :hmpf_bad:

The Target stores around here are just bare on all Legos in general. I think there must have been some "day after Christmas" sale because I don't remember Target being that cleared out at this time last year. Or maybe they just really gauged their sales well. TRU still has a lot of the DoS sets in stock, though that is mostly attributed to their higher prices.

Ya I visited mine to pick up Dol Guldur but the only Middle-Earth lego they had was Rivendell. Even the Star Wars sets were almost gone. So I don't think it is an LOTR issue,

Target was handing out 10% off anything coupons to anyone the weekend after Christmas as a goodwill gesture over the Credit Card hacking.

I was just checking Lego's S@H website and noticed almost every LotR and Hobbit set is currently sold out. Even Orthanc. In fact the only sets that are still in production that AREN'T sold out are Wizard Battle and Dol Guldur Ambush. That should be something else positive? That or Lego just had terribly small production runs figuring sales wouldn't be that great. Either way there aren't enough to meet demand? All the Ninjago sets and a bunch of other themes are currently available...

I'm definitely taking this as a good sign. The lotr line has been my favorite ever. I just hope they were actually selling more rather than being under prepared for the holidays...

Also, when 10237 was released, it was a best seller on S@H for nearly two months here in the U.S. Gotta think that counts for something...

Indeed. I bet if we see any LOTR sets for 2014, it will be D2C set. The license seems to allow as many sets as LEGO wants, so they can even do something like the Minecraft 2013 sets and release two D2C LOTR sets of any price.

It actually still is a bestseller in large markets such as the UK and Germany. Additionally especially the Mirkwood elf army and Dol Guldur battle seem to be doing very well. Here in the NL all the Hobbit sets are currently sold out at bol.com (cf. amazon) and one has to wait 2/3 weeks to get them. So yes either they bought in/made too few sets, or people are buying a lot of them (or both). In any case, this is good news for the fans as it increases the chances of getting more new sets :classic: .

Guess what I am about to tell you guys?

That's right, this thread is for 2013 HOBBIT AND LOTR and NOT 2014 discussion. Move that to the future discussion thread.

Edit: Moved the posts. Only discuss the 2013 sets in here.

Has anyone seen, or heard of this? Apparently it was given out to people who preorder DOS Tickets, and even though I preorded mine I never heard any news of any promotion like this! :P

http://www.brickset....tail/?Set=ELF-1

a friend of mine got me one but not got it from him yet, will post pics when I have it.

Ya, I heard it was just a zip lock with the minifigure and printed card inside. Nothing special at all. I guess it would be nice to get free when you pre-ordered the DoS tickets. We didn't have anything like that in the US that I know of.

I finally got the Tower of Orthanc yesterday after a long wait. I deliberately avoided it in the store window display as it was the first time I'd seen it in the flesh. First impressions? The box is MASSIVE, and I've got no clue how I'll get that on a train...

I've seen reviews and everything, and I'm so happy I've got it :D Cant wait to build it!
