Floundie Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 It's the Sea Cow, TLM gets released in February, so it makes complete sense. Quote
Fives Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 The Simpsons House is also a February release. That's two D2C sets in one month. Is there a limit to the number of D2C sets LEGO can release in one year? Because if it's four, and the Sandcrawler counts as one, then there's only one moe empty spot for them to fill, unless I've missed something here. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 @Fives: We already have four, even without the Sandcrawler: the Maersk ship, the Parisian Restaurant, Metalbeards Sea Cow and the Simpsons House And we're pretty much guaranteed two SW D2C sets each year Quote
Cammo Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 So that's it then, Smaug is the most expensive Hobbit set from the summer 2014 line. Nice for the kids who want a Smaug. Quote
TeufelHund Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 It would be absolutely criminal if TLG stopped making Hobbit/LOTR sets without producing Smaug and a Balrog... Quote
Artanis I Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 ... Your sig photo is waaaaaayyyy over the size limit! It's quite distracting. Quick fix it before an admin sees it. Quote

Because if it's four, and the Sandcrawler counts as one, then there's only one moe empty spot for them to fill, unless I've missed something here. I don't think there is any set limit for a year, and heck they certainly exceeded 4 last year. There are some predictable patterns to the D2C sets, they normally do 2 Star Wars UCS sets, 1 modular building, 1 Winter Village, etc. but beyond that I think the only real limits come from their internal design capacity. We tend to probably think of a limit more because most D2C sets tend to come from what we now think of as the Creator Expert group and the SW group. So there are probably functional limits to how many such large sets these teams can process in a given year. But we have started to see D2C sets from other themes, so probably a broader mix of internal groups. Orthanc from the Hobbit/LotR team, Arkham for the Superheroes team, Haunted House from the MF team etc. I think there is a rumor of a looming Ninjago one? I'm sure their marketing departments have concerns about how many very expensive sets they want sitting on shelves at once to avoid canibalizing their own sales. But given that the number keeps growing every year I don't think they have hit their threshold yet. So that's it then, Smaug is the most expensive Hobbit set from the summer 2014 line. Nice for the kids who want a Smaug. What Smaug set? Has someone posted a legitimate list of set names? Or is this just wishful thinking? (In which case it's probably in the wrong thread) And how does a huge picture of a blue van connect to Middle Earth? Quote
Deathleech Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 How many D2C sets did we actually get last year anyways? The two Star Wars ones, Orthanc, Winter Village, Sydney Opera House, Arkham Asylum... I am sure I am missing one or two and that's already six right there alone. Quote
Darth Punk Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I thought the Simpsons House was the D2C set in February? Released on Feb 01. Quote

BrickBob Studpants Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) This doesn't seem to be the same catalogue that others claim to have seen, this one lacks the box sizes (and prices) I'm wondering what that grey-ish structure on the upper half of the page is supposed to be, the person who took the pictures seems to have made sure that only the non-watermarked parts of the catalogue are visible so there might be something of interest there... ...yeah, it's probably just the logo or something Anyway, here's hoping for a reveal at the Toyfairs (the release date indicates so) even though we likely wouldn't get to see much as was the case with the movie-based Marvel/DC sets in the last two years @azog15: Why not?
