For me it´s too early judge new sets.

But I´m sure that i will buy all LOTR sets and probably more than once each :sweet:

I hope that on new Castle sets will be something ´must have´ because now it is not. (For me )

For those of you who have been buying / collecting / building for awhile now - How many LotR waves do you see TLG actually producing? I know you can't predict the future here. I'm asking for an educated guess based on your past experience with themes that have been equally popular. I want to complete the LotR theme and was wondering what that commitment may entail as far as waves / number of sets. Thanks!

I'd say until the last Hobbit film, but if we're lucky,

it might continue for another while. I'm still hoping for a few more LOTR sets this year, to have at least all the important stuff covered.

Personally I have mixed feelings about the Mouth of Sauron minifigure. While I LOVE the fact they are actually making the fig, it's a little disappointing this set includes him from an army building perspective. I mean Aragorn in Gondor clothing, Gandalf the White, and Mouth of Sauron leaves only 2 grunts, a black horse, and an eagle in this set. For a $40+ dollar set that's not a very good ratio of grunts to named characters. I can't see myself buying more than 2 of this set, and even that's a stretch. I will prolly just eBay or BrickLink the other minifigures and save myself a load of cash.

Disregarding the set (this specific one is almost certainly just a rumour), I'm pretty sure any Fell Beast we get in the future will be moulded. By extension, that would also mean we will probably never get a set like the custom "Witch-king Battle" one because there's not enough scenery.

Actually, I can't think of a set based on the Battle of Pelennor Fields that would have sufficient scenery elements apart from maybe something with an Oliphaunt and perhaps some sort of catapult.

We could always get a set with a Fel Beast in Minas Tirith where the Witch King faces Gandalf the White and breaks his staff. Not as good as versus Eowyn since we already are getting Gandalf the White, but another possible option nonetheless.

I think there might be one more set thats as tore exclusve soemwhere("hard to find"), if thats the case there only 1 less set than the first wave, so it's not so bad.

Actually that would still be two less sets in the June 2013 if we got a fifth exclusive set not shown in the catalog. That would mean the June 2013 wave would have five sets (Wizard Duel, Rivendell, Black Gates, Corsair Ship, and fifth retailer exclusive set) while last years first LotR wave had seven sets (Gandalf Arrives, Shelob Attacks, Uruk-hai Army, Orc Forge exclusive, Weathertop, Moria, and Helm's Deep). I would be fine with only 5 sets as long as the fifth is something super iconic and great, but I have a feeling based on the exclusives so far it won't be. Still, I can hold out hope we will get something awesome like a D2C $200 Minas Tirith set.

I think we only 'need' 3 waves, if the 3rd wave is diverse.

Galadriel*, Faramir, Eowyn, Gondorian soldier, Witch king & haradrim Will be the only high profile figures missing after the 2. wave.

*could be covered in hobbit set.

deskp, I see that your avatar image is of what looks to be a custom Mirkwood Elf as seen during the Hobbit prologue. I am very interested in it, it looks very well done. Do you have any full minifig images that you could post? Or have you posted them already? And if yes, where?

Maybe we will get more polybags this wave to make up for lack of individual sets.

Well, no polybags have been discovered yet, but most of the ones just found seem to be for themes already released or that will be released in early 2013. That means there is at least some hope. I would assume they will probably just do 2 polybags for LotR if any turn up. One will be a decent army builder like the Uruk-hai and Mirkwood Elf, and the other a main character already available in at least 2 sets that no one will really want or need.

I am glad to see in the next wave that we get more main characters such as Arwen, a more readily available Elrond, the Mouth of Sauron, and especially Saruman (our first main evil character, yay!). We also get some nice variations like Gandalf the White and Aragorn in Gondor clothing. The only "main" characters we will be missing are Treebeard, Faramir, Eowyn, the Witch King, and Gondor Soldiers. I would love to see them do some of the more obscure or lesser shown characters though like Galadrial, Haradrim, Easterlings, Ithilien Rangers, etc. I also would really like to see an Oliphant and Fel Beast. If we got all these I could die happy. I think they could easily cover all of them in two more waves if they are decent sized waves (5 or so sets each).

I would love to see the new armoured orc in a polybag. Also, a Nazgul polybag would be an amazing way to collect the Nine. Perhaps both. They did a good and bad polybag for the first LOTR wave, two good polybags for The Hobbit, so why not two bad? And when I say good and bad, I mean the good side and the bad side, not the actual quality of the polybag itself.

i've been following this topic almost everyday, lots of "hoping" post.

cant wait to own these sets when they come out

Frodo and Ringwraith could be a polybag set.

Sounds small enough and we know it's a rumored set. We get Frodo again like tradition but now a Nazgul to complete the nine. So this could be a good and bad polybag in one.

A Nazgul for under 10 bucks can't be a bad thing. I skipped Weathertop, but the forecast is looking really grim for Nazgul in upcoming sets. I don't really care if they come with horses, but if that's the only set that ever includes any of them....sigh.

Radagast versus the Twilight Witchking would be a perfect set, I agree with whoever mentioned that. A catch-up wave in Winter 2014 is what we're all hoping for - because the line could very well end in Summer 2014.

The rumoured Frodo and Ringwraith set is actually the Wizard Battle set. The dutch site that first reported the next LOTR wave got the set numbers right, but the names were incorrect save for the Pirate ship.

Rumoured list on dutch shop

79005 Frodo and Ring Wraith

79006 ???

79007 Eagles Nest

79008 Pirate Ship

I wonder why TLG don´t make another army building set?

Set urukhai army is probably most-selling from first wave. (if I look around)

I´m still hoping that they give us set 79009 and will contain something special

LotR wave one actually has two army builder sets: 9471 Uruk-Hai Army and 9476 Orc Forge. Here in Singapore, I know someone who collected 50 and 60 copies respectively. Even myself I have 19 and 8 copies. Still a long way to 1000 Uruk-Hai though (need 250 copies).

Yes, definitely we need an army builder in wave two!

I got 12 Urukhai army and 11 Orc forge. But it´s not enough for me :sweet:

I´d like to see haradrim vs gondor army builder set

I think they based that off of this custom set, which was put up on Brickipedia yesterday:

Witch_king_battle.jpg

That, I'm afraid, would be a custom set made by me. Though I don't remember putting it on Brickipedia, nor trying to make it look so believable. I hoped no one would believe this was real by placing it only in my 'Dream second wave LOTR sets' custom thread and my Flickr.

Who's been trying to raise false hope here?

. I would love to see them do some of the more obscure or lesser shown characters though like Galadrial, Haradrim, Easterlings, Ithilien Rangers, etc. I also would really like to see an Oliphant and Fel Beast.

Yes please! I would imagine that we would get one more wave of LOTR sets after the 3rd Hobbit movie comes out in July 18, 2014. Maybe they would release the LOTR sets in winter 2014 because surely they would have Hobbit sets coming out that summer to correspond with the Hobbit movie. Hopefully the sets will sell well over the next few years but the fact that the Goblin set is on sale everywhere makes me just a bit concerned.

Hey Hench, I wouldn't post confidential pictures. Our mods are nice folks but I would hate to see you get the hammer dropped on you. And welcome, it's nice to have another LOTR fan here!

Remember that the sets are based off the movies, and there were no rangers other than Aragorn in the movies, so we won't be seeing them. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see Galadrial.
