Basteq Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Gr8, So my dreams of UCS LOTR are coming true... :) Quote
dpb1298 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Anyont else hear of 50011 Lord of the Rings: Battle of Helms deep Lego Game for 2013? Source, Local legoshop catalogue. 50011 Lord of the Rings: Battle of Helms deep Quote
Prominence Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 The problem is "we" the more dedicated AFOLs who will buy such multiples are, while dedicated, a very small niche. They make their money off of he kiddies and their parents. Not off the collectors. So smaller less expensive self contained sets is the current target market. If you're not paying American dollars, you're paying way too much anyway. Quote
KristofBD Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Well the confidential mark does make it more credible. The Pirate ship also has a similar tag with the sizes in the preliminary picture so it seems to fit the style. We'll see. In any case: I'd rather have a Minas Tirith giant set. After all, the Orthanc tower is rather plain. Quote
deskp Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Its a mix of looking super fake and seeming really plausible... fake: 1 why would anyone have the HQ version of that image and post it online? 2 does the mesurements not seem abit too big? real: 1 does the top half of the pixelated image not looks very similar to THIS with the holes through the tower and such. 2 if it were to be shows online as a tease they would blur the actual model when it isnt nessecary to blur the surroundings Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Oooooohhhh man!!! I really hope this is real! This easily takes the cake as the best set of 2013, if it's true... Quote
Fives Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 That looks more real than fake. The reason is the confidential mark. If someone had just made p some fake image to stir up discussion, then it is not likely that they would've gone to the trouble to put the watermark there. It looks to me like this is just a smaller part of a more complete image showing the prelim version of Orthanc. I desperately hope we see Wormtounge, Treebeard, likely Saruman (which seems really redundant) and plenty of worker orcs. Also, it would be interesting if there was a way to incorporate the Wizard Battle set into the interior of Orthanc. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I agree, Fives. It looks like part of a larger catalog page. In a lot of my Lego catalogs, UCS sets have a "main" image, with a smaller image like this that shows dimensions. Seems pretty legit to me! (And it would explain why we're only getting 4 sets in the main wave). Quote
KyleJohnson11 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Reminds me of the pictures of the team GB minifigure pictures. Everyone thought they were fake. Then boom! real :) Quote
diskus Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) 1 does the top half of the pixelated image not looks very similar to THIS with the holes through the tower and such. 2 does the mesurements not seem abit too big? Hey Deskp, to 1. --> It could be, but the problem is the vertical bar in the middle of the 8bit part. So it has to be Orthanc not the tower with the eye of Sauron. to 2. --> I don't think so. The Tower Bridge is 40" long. Why not a 28,75'' high Orthanc? Okay, this is nearly twice as high as the Death Star or the Grand Emporium but its more realistic and detailled than a 20'' tower. In the films you can imagine how high the tower is if you compare the small platform on the top where Gandalf is arrested. Edited January 3, 2013 by diskus Quote

I never did mention barad dur (saurons eye tower) and the picture from the game is of orthanc.... I would not want treebeard to be in this set, it would jack up the price, and treebeard would work great as a set of its own. I would want Grima to be in this set along with an uniqe worker orc. Lordof theBricks Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 WOOOOW,Definitely buying Orthanc, what do You guys think how much it will cost,I think around 300 dolars Quote
General Magma Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I think Orthanc will cost around $200, hopefully less.. The Tower Bridge seems to measure up to higher points and costs $240. Quote
zylek Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 The Orthanc way in the back of the Lego Development room pictured here could be over 28 inches tall: http://cache.lego.com/r/aboutus/-/media/About%20Us/Media%20Assets%20Library/Workplace/PMD/ts.20120921T112930.High_Res_%20Product%20Development_View%20of%20the%20Open%20Room.jpg Quote

Huntleyfx Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Well, it looks like I should start putting money away now. 2013 might be my most expensive year for LEGO yet. Quote
Cammo Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Hmm Hopefully Scarecrow & Penguin will turn up in cheaper sets because bye bye Arkham Asylum, Hello Orthanc Tower Quote
Infernum Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I hope so much it's true! Doesn't the 10 in the product number mean it's a D2C exclusive? Quote
diskus Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I never did mention barad dur (saurons eye tower) and the picture from the game is of orthanc.... Sorry, you're right. Mixed up the picture with another one. Hope that there are many minfigures. Saruman, Grima, some isengard orcs and uruk-hai... No ents please. It could be the scene when Sauruman sends out the orc troups "There will be no Dawn... for Men." Quote
pathas Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) (If it´s true ) I wonder if this set will have some conflict, as treeberd, merry, pippin vs orcs and Saruman, or there will be Saruman and Grima vs gandalf, aragorn and others as in the extended version Rotk. Or it may be just a collector's version with Saruman, and many orcs and urukhai. What do you think? Edited January 3, 2013 by pathas Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I'm hoping for the latter; I feel that there could easily be an "Ent Attack" set that would act as an add-on, leaving more room for minfigures with Orthanc. Quote
Infernum Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Usually exclusives don't have big battles. But I'm not sure. Quote
Mahtion Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Very good news, it means LOTR gets collector series which opens the door to Minas Tirith, Rivendell, Edoras, Minas Morgul, Barad-dur and many more. Perhaps we will start seeing one collectors series every wave. I like the idea of using the Wizard Battle to add interior to Orthanc. Usually collector series come with at least 5 minifigs so that should be great. Like others said Treebeard should be a separate set. I wonder if Council of Elrond will be able to fit in a collectors Rivendell some day? What about the hobbit line will they see a collectors set or is it too soon for that line? Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Perhaps we will start seeing one collectors series every wave. I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself there. But it is a good sign that Lego is willing to test the waters with large D2C Lord of the Rings sets. Quote
deskp Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) I don't think this will be as expensive as people seem to expect. the base proapbly uses a fair amount of pieces, but the top half doesen't seem to use that many. Edited January 3, 2013 by deskp Quote
