diskus Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Wow, Orthanc is coming. Awesome! Now it would be good to hear how much minifigures comes with the set an which one. Its nice to read the speculations. Like chrismas till the next big news Quote
Lordof theBricks Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Here are choices for Orthanc from what scene it can be: 1.Saruman's speech include: Saruman,Grima, and around 10 Uruk-Hais 2.Ent attack include: Treebeard,Merry,Pippin, regullar Ent,3x Mordor orcs,Saruman (but I believe not, because in this scene we need to get wall who is holding the river) 3.Defeat of Isengard include: Saruman,Theoden (hair piece, white horse),Grima,Treebeard,Legolas,Gandalf the White,Palantir (this is from extended edition) 4.Betrayal of Isengard: Gandalf the Grey (hair piece) Saruman,3x Mordor orcs,Moth,Eagle Gwalhir Quote

It may simply be a more advanced model of Orthanc. Like some of the SW UCS sets. Quote

Darth Malgus Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Personally I think its more likely to have minifigs with it, most of the SW sets these days come with minifigs, exceptions B-Wing and Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter. Quote
DarthPotato Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 If minifigures are included then I'd really like to see it cover multiple scenes, like other people suggested before. Maybe not the wizard battle scene because that's already specifically being made in to a set, but other scenes could still work. Except I don't think Treebeard or an Ent will be included because the model will probably already be big enough. Quote
jhc2nmfn Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Do you think this orthanc set will have the inside accessible somehow or will it be more of a display piece? That could be a reason they are releasing both sets at the same time along with the having a less expensive way of getting saruman. Quote

I believe that we will not see anything inside, because there are no so many things inside of Orthanc, only stairs, and chairs, but things what are really important in side,we will get in The Wizard duel.I just would like to see balcony, where Saruman made a speech Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 From what I've been able to glean about the 10237 Orthanc, if it comes with minifigures at all, they'll be entirely out of scale with the model itself (as they did on the UCS Super Star Destroyer). The tower is supposedly 72 cm tall, which I think would be great, but I did the math when I was building my own Orthanc a couple years ago and, to match the tower in the movie, at minifigure scale the tower should come in at well over two meters (or nearly three times the size the rumored size of this one). I'll welcome any figure(s) they choose to bundle with it, but I think this one's going to be more of a collector's display piece than a play set (and I'm fine with that). Quote
Infernum Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Does anyone know how Saruman's staff was made in the set pictures? I can't seem to fing them... Quote

If everything was the correct scale, the seeping wall of Helms deep would have to be at least double what they made it, but it still comes with figures. The same with weathertop, it is extremely reduced in size. Quote
Brickington Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I don't really get why people are so concerned about getting an additional Saruman. I mean, what about the gazillion Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf, Legolas, Aragorn and Gimli figures you probably already have? If you can find use for those, I'm sure an additional Saruman won't be much of an issue either. Be creative, mix and match minifig parts to create new characters. Isn't that what LEGO is all about? Good Point, thus stop complaining kiddies! Quote

reptiman Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 (edited) this looks like a good video of the 4 known sets for 2013 Thanks. It's labeled "pictures 1." Does that mean he has more pictures? It appears to be the photos we already saw, but I wonder why he would label it number 1. Edited January 7, 2013 by reptiman Quote

WEREWOLF Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 has anyone else posted this link? mostly information we already know, but it could be updated http://animatostudios.blogspot.com/ Quote
Haltiamieli Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I'll welcome any figure(s) they choose to bundle with it, but I think this one's going to be more of a collector's display piece than a play set (and I'm fine with that). It remains to be seen how the designers have tackled the issue, but personally I believe it shouldn't be too hard to design the tower in (more or less) minifig scale and still retain the iconic dimensions well enough for the collectors who want displayability, even if it is "just" 72 cm tall. It would still be absurdly tall, for an official Lego set. I would imagine that only a very nitpicky person would look at it and comment that the stairs and doors appear much too big for the scale. Even Jackson himself, after all, threw the real height of the tower out of the window when it suited him cinematically (though admittedly that bothers me every time I watch the extended RotK). Quote
Darth Malgus Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I don't think minifigures and scale in an UCS set have ever been an issue, I couldn't see that as being a hurdle to include them. I am unsure that Orthanc will be an open set as it would require a considerable structure re-jig. Quote
Faefrost Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Yea,if... Well we do know now that it is a D2C set. Grogal confirmed that the set number is 10237. Anything in the 10,000 range is a D2C set. The question is more is it a "playset" like the Death Star or Diagon Alley, or is it more of an advanced model like the UCS series? Quote
coolguy2323 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I hope it's a playset, the Death Star is still my all time favorite lego set. Quote
Artanis I Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 What does d2c mean? Direct To Consumer TLG sells it from their shop. Other retailers do not. I think. Correct me if I'm wrong, because it's different in Australia where there aren't any Lego shops - instead here D2Cs are the same deal as the "exclusive"/"hard to find" sort of thing: one particular retailer will stock it at some point down the track. Like the Kingdoms Joust, about 6 months after being released on S@H and in Lego stores (overseas), it was released here at Toyworld only. (Where it will remain unsold if they continue to try to sell it for $200.) R2D2 was at Target, modular buildings at David Jones etc. Quote

Or a 2013 Bricks and More type set. :) I would have said that sets between 10000 and 10500 are the D2C sets, but the new Arkham Asylum breaks even that pattern. Quote

Seems my analysis a couple of pages back seems legit. A bit off-topic but are you Dutch, you have a similar accent to English-speaking dutchmen. Quote
